And people still may not see much of it, since they'll spark across it with their blue suit.

I have to say grime, you're doing amazing with these extra pathways.
the more paths it has, the more Zebes feels like an actual planet with nooks and crannies everywhere.
I'm loving it!

A little off-topic, but I actually started listening to some of your other music, and I have to wonder... Why is Garden of Magma based on the Red Brinstar music near the beginning? Not that I'm complaining. If you were to change the music more drastically for Project Base, you should try to recreate some of the remixes you've put up on dropbox.

I second this notion. "Garden of Magma" is pretty sweet and would fit nicely in this hack. (Has there ever been a SM hack with altered music? I don't recall any unless I've missed something...) Your right, the SM soundtrack is pretty "iconic" but this hack of yours is shaping up to be quite iconic in it's own right. I don't see it being any less "iconic" throwing in some remixed variations on classic SM tunes. Just my opinion, make what you want of it, But having some new tunes to enjoy would really boost the overall experience of playing SM again, at least for me.

SLR had custom music

Apart from DMantra's "Alien scream" thing, I can't think of any other hacks that have custom music.

yet.........

FPzero

Aegis was supposed to have custom music but, well, we all know how that went.

MetroidMst

Sadfish has a couple of hacks with custom music too.

While I certainly think Super Metroid has a great soundtrack, I also don't see why you would just stick to it. Put some rad stuff in there.

Crashtour99

You forget about Scyzer's hacks, Snowglobe and Super Hauntroid, both of which had custom musics.

I like how the conversation quickly turns into "who did custom shit". Nothing of what has been done so far come close to the original music quality. I don't say those are bad, but they don't sound Super Metroid to me :<_<:

That being said, if you want to alter original songs in PB, I'd say go for it. :^_^:

Parabox

I'd love me some Grimy tracks in my Peanut-Butter Super Metroid. Very interested to see what it'd be like. Somewhat regular progress updates would be cool, I just love seeing things like that unfold.

You haven't been in IRC on the very rare occasions that Sadi linked vids of Seraphim, which does have mastered custom tracks of professional quality.  Of anyone to attempt music hacking in SM, she's the ONLY one to have done it with such skill.  You could easily mistake her stuff for that of someone who actually works for Nintendo.

I've done a bit of musics, but I still have a long way to go as far as getting down the fades/panning/etc.   All the little details that take a song from being alright to amazing.

If Grime and Dman learned SM music hacking I've no doubt they'd be pretty damn great at it.
I agree with Crashed here. For the vast majority of us putting music in is simply incomprehensible due to how incredibly technical it is. For most of us, the ASM we can do is extremely basic at best. I for one don't understand it at all. I can appreciate the skill of those who can do it, regardless of the quality of the music. While I know this isn't what you were really talking about Metak, it sounded a bit pretentious of you to say "nothing anyone has done compares to SM's quality". Though that may be true, the skill required to even attempt to put in custom music is phenomenal to a lot of us. Maybe you don't see it that way because you can do it, our perspectives on this are extremely different.
Alright, that's my last thought on that.
Anyway, I'd love to hear some slightly redone versions of the SM music in PB. It'd fit well with the overall "same but different" feel I get from the hack.  :^_^:

Wow THAT is definitely pretentious.
... I have to nothing else to add. Sorry for the off-topic Grime.

Boy, this escalated quickly. I agree with metal that youre going a tad far with sadi music, but I also agree that its very good and metak is underestimating people like her. As for vismunds side here, music is not super connected to most asm, its in large part about pointers, so the real talent comes from the ability to produce good music at all, then get used to the slow process of using asm for it.

How major?  As far as I know, there are no changes.  Project Base is being designed as a template for hacks.  Nothing has been moved, and next to nothing has been altered.  Grime has decided to add in a few new rooms to add extra routes between areas / sections (and removed a few), but the base game is still vanilla Super.  It's more of a graphical overhaul than anything else.  Play it, and you'll see for yourself. :^_^:

As for your additional suggestion, Grime has already made a bunch of physics changes.  Again, play it and see.

begrimed

I've been making some minor terrain edits here and there that don't significantly affect the course of the game. Some of really really bland rooms have been getting reworked as well.

I think tampering with the directional speed of turning around in mid-air would piss a lot of people off. Earlier PB versions got a pretty negative reaction with me just making the default horizontal spinjump speed one value faster, lol.

passarbye

regarding the terrain edits, i'm loving what you've shown so far and am looking forward to the new area/rooms below wrecked ship.

rather than editing mid-air turning speed, could you make the wall-jump push you off the walls a least a little bit?
Alcatraz is near impossible with the way it is in 0.6, at least i think from forever ago when i last played so i'll try again tonight when i get home.

begrimed

I like the change that makes walljumps go straight up unless directional input is held. Makes it a lot easier to walljump up tight areas once you get used to how it works.

Aside from a few bits of ASM that I can't really do myself, this version is basically finished. If anybody wants to beta test PB 0.7, let me know in this thread or send me a PM. Don't give the beta to others without asking me first, and especially don't publicly post the link anywhere. I don't want this version being spread around.

Any kind of critique or commentary is encouraged but not required, and I don't mind if you want to stream it for others to watch (let me know so I can watch it too if I'm around).

Black Falcon

I'm interested in testing it out. However streaming it might be a bit difficult for me because of my bad pc specs.

Riffman81

I'm interested in beta testing as well Grime. I have two weeks of vacation time on my hands starting Monday, so I have the time if your still looking for testers. Just shoot me a PM.

LinkaMeister

Are you still looking for beta testers for PB 0.7. If so I'm interested in beta testing it. I have a lot of spare time.

Mini-Kraid

Been a while since I posted ( lack of internet steadily anyway).  If you need another tester I will be glad to help in any way I can.  Just lemme know if you do Grime.

Riffman81

Got a chance to play the newest build for about 30 minutes, I'll play more when I'm able to get some real downtime sometime tonight. So far I really like all the changes (at least what I've come across). The additional and redesigned rooms are a nice surprise. I'm also liking the new sound FX. Not so much the "bomb" FX though, and I think I've mentioned that before... I would have kept the original sound for that or implemented something else.  The game play feels a little more refined from the previous version, but I'll have to go back and run through some of 0.6 to compare. Just a quick post to give some feedback. Can't wait to play more of this though. It kind of feels like PB is becoming it's own hack, rather then a simple revamp of the original.
