Thanks for all the feedback and such, you's guys. Glad everyone's liking it so far and that no (major) bugs have cropped up yet, except maybe one.

A streamer named Apathae discovered a soft crash that happens after beating the game. If you reset the game with an emulator after the credits, the sound will hang shortly after loading a saved game, so going through a door will lock things up. HOWEVER, reloading the ROM file itself in the emulator fixed this, so be aware of that. My only guess so far is that I left some bad code behind after applying ASM that would allow the player to push a button after the credits and be returned to the title screen, which itself crashed the sound after loading the title screen.

@Dessy
Hahaha, WOW. For just being a theory TAS, that is still damn impressive. You weren't kidding about the interesting route. I can only imagine what a polished TAS would look like. Beastly.

@Weterr
SHIT, you're right. I really hate that room, lol. Good find, though. So yeah, everyone, avoid this spot for now:

Weterr123

The problem is here, in room 7A923:

The circled blocks are Air X-ray, and should be solid. But I don't hold it against you Grime, small mistake lol

EDIT - you have responded while I've been writing this post haha. Coolio.

Just a minor graphical glitch I found:

It happens when coming into Kraid's room from the right side too quickly after getting the Varia Suit. I believe it's scroll related, as it appears on the far-left column of the respective scroll area on-screen.

That graphical bug in Kraid's room appears in different ways. Sometimes there's garbage tiles along the floor, and the tiles themselves can vary sometimes. It's caused by Rakki's patch that makes the door transitions move faster, no known fix for it yet.

Weterr123

Ok, so played through a little more, and liking the open routes... in fact, this version may be a little too open. It's certainly interesting to say the least. Visually, it's beautiful. Another slight error though, and I can't think what caused it. This happened just outside Ridley's room (going for Ridley second for lols) :

It just crashed, but music kept playing.

Oh and I found that dodgy room
to the right of Crocomire (which I entered after getting him in the acid, but not after final death scene, thus causing the battle to restart when I went back haha)
I started to play PB0.7 this sunday : what a great work. The game is so beautiful.
I have a question : is it normal that there is no Emergency Exit Sequence in Ceres ?

Weterr123

Oh man , had another freeze. I think it's charge beam related, as it happened in the same way: charge then as I turn to face the other direction, freezes up.

Some interesting points to note:

1) Happened in Norfair again, quite near to Ridley's room.

2) The nature of the freeze is weird - charge sound continues, as does music.

3) I use SNES9X, and have never experienced freezing.

Finally, I'm just making you aware, not trying to piss on a fantastic bonfire! I can't wait for the final version of PB, especially a normal physics verion (rehinting at what me and Dman hinted at before wink wink).

That being said, the new physics are growing on me (WJ is GODLY), but there is one thing that is just tooooo broken:

I should not be able to IBJ up to Ridley through lava without gravity!!! That's crazy, Dawg.

Dessyreqt

Even in Vanilla, you can just wall jump up without gravity. Why not allow IBJ?

Hey, I have been playing 0.6 on the Snes8x on my phone but I have been trying to download 0.7 using the exact same method I have used for every other game/mod/hack I got on it but somehow it isn't working. I go to open the file from my SkyDrive or my Archiver, it initialises the emulator but nothing then happens. No file install/transfer completion/error message or anything. Please fix it as I'm itching to play it. Thanks, keep up the good work

You do realise that you're downloading an IPS file and you have to patch it onto an untouched Super Metroid ROM, right?

The patch is unheadered, so either a hex editor or SMILE is necessary. Your argument is invalid :heheh:

Quietus

Unless I'm missing something, it still applies, since 90% of the time, the ROM is unheadered already, so SMILE or a hex editor aren't required. :O_o:

Anyway, I think Weterr was referring to the original ROM, and not one that Acnoid had already applied 0.6 (or whatever).

Yup.

Acnoid

Downloaded both versions of the hack, so yeah, you can kinda say I know.... After a little fiddling about with my SkyDrive and other apps I have I sorted it out. Only thing now though is I have travelled a bit off the beaten path and am now stuck in a room with breakaway blocks and cant get back out. I'm in Norfair, basically above the room where you get the Grapple Beam. I'm too noob to SWJ on my phone as the touch screen controls are not too responsive. I don't have the Varia suit yet and only 4 energy tanks and 1 reserve so heat runs are out of the question for me. Anybody have any suggestions? Much thanks.

You can just download the ROM directly from the page that's linked in my sig.

How can you say such things?  I'd love to be able to play it on laptop or P.C. (with a controller ofc) but I don't currently have 1 so that therefore is the reason I'm playing a game which I loved when it 1st came out on my phone.... Yeah I know Grime, it's sorted now thanks, great work on it too, a nice "special edition" of a true classic

Kitsune_Phoenix

You should probably get one of those joystick docks for your phone.

I made an any% run to go along with the 104% run. Unlike that one, this one fulfills its goals. There's also a few more room shortcuts I used this time around.

Super Metroid - Project Base 0.7 - any% theory TAS in 28:46

Quietus

Not bad, Dessyreqt.  It just makes me think that once it's complete, the TASers are going to tear it apart. :^_^:

squishy_ichigo

[May 18 PM 03:34:06] <squishy_ichigo> I'm dissapointed Dessyreqt didn't take advantage of spinjump restarting for climbing the crateria shaft

I did however enjoy the use of the spinjumping from morphball back into mockballs, and the vertical down speedfalls you did, those were nice, could use more backflips though :P

As far as theory-crafting is concerned though, I have to wonder the advants of going ridley early, by going in from the 'exit' near wave beam
you don't kill ridley as quickly/easily with the gear you'd have at that stage, but it saves some backtracking later in the game

or even earlier phantoon, as soon as getting pbs, more backtrack saving

anyways, it was good fun to watch, gg

If I were doing a pure TAS (as in not something resembling human play) I probably would have just shot up the shaft with nary a care for platforms. As it is, even at 75% speed, I can't execute those maneuvers that quickly (this was done by playing at 75% speed with a script that measures my room times and uses the fastest ones when I decide to advance a room.) Damage boosting and the backflip in Project Base are too floaty to be used in as many situations as I would like, otherwise I would have probably used them more.

Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT: one of the things I really like about this hack is that most of the tricks that runners want to REALLY get in a run (full halfy, metroid skip) are much more consistent, but all the new abilities create a much higher skill cap on basic movement. If you could make Draygon and Phantoon 100% deterministic that would go a long way to making this the best speedrun hack. Phantoon should just open right away, and Draygon should always swoop right and goo left. I can see from a casual perspective why you wouldn't want to do it this way, but still it would be really awesome from a speedrun perspective, and it would eliminate MOST of the luck in the run (there's still drops to contend with; making the metroids around 50% to drop supers would go a long way toward making the game pretty much skill only to run)
