It was a tough call between Tobi and Person. In the end, I picked Person's room. Their both pretty good though.

@jefe: I like it overall. However, the others looked better to me sorry.

@retro: Pretty simplistic. I think it could be better. (Then again, I never tried messing with that tile set.)

You're welcome.  Ask, and ye shall receive. :^_^:

Ok so I was having such an exciting time reading wacko's (or was is nec0's) post in the creativity center forum that it was completely overwhelming.  What better way to cool down than have a nice relaxing look over of this weeks rooms!

By the way nec0 (or was it wacko) sent me a PM to ask me to personally announce his new hack "Super Metroid - praise the porcelain gods or die", yea I knew it's a bit odd, I suggested he rethink the title but he said I was just a infidel westerner and didn't know what I was talking about, then something about dieing, I don't know, anyway.....

Mr 962 no less no more..

Ok you got me not too long ago.  You spammed the smurf blue for so long I was like WOW, SOMETHING DIFFERENT.  Well, yes your showing us some different material which is nice.  I think it's a pretty good room, nice natural curvature.  Colors seem to work.  Good room as part of an overall cave area.  Some of the tiles in the parameter don't seem to work well together, you may want to rethink how you're combining and using them.
It appears to be a transition room (remember I'm just a simple 8 biter here).  I'm not crazy about how the two area colors are blending together, I'm getting kind of a watermelony vibe from it.  Your having some serious patterning going on in the green area, specifically the small bubbles, I don't know the tile set limitations so maybe you can disregard that observation.  I can see how you are presenting an obstacle to cross the top, interesting.

My first impression: wow, pretty cool looking room.  Overall great natural look to it.  Some patterning going on with the greenery and some of the (I assume) breakables.  Nice job, I like the flow of your perimeters/ structures.  A little polishing and it'll be an outstanding room.
That Person over there...
My first impression is, wow, that's different..  there is a high contrast between the light tan sand and darker grey.  I'm sure it makes more sense in game and in perspective with the surrounding areas.  For one room clipped out and plastered onto my screen it looks out of place. Again I'm no SM (or S&M) guru of any kind, just an outside observer.  You'll have to consult nec0 about the S&M stuff I hear he's into that when he's not posting wacky threads on internet game hacking forums...  ah ok.. I just now scrolled to the right, sorry I've been practicing nec0s voodoo chants today and I'm a bit off, I didn't see the rest of your room, I'm on a kindle too so that's a pain in the ass.  I see now a bit more where your going with this.  I think it has potential but the sand should be lowered a bit below the rock, try it out, it'll give it a much better look.
Ok I'm done torturing myself with this kindle, excuse me while I go slam it into the wall a few times, hopefully the text input developer will feel it if I hit it hard enough.

Oh the whiner of the week is....
nec0 congratulations, how does it feel to win the.... oh wait this isn't the biggest loser posting from his parents basement award is it, sorry different forum....
Tobi, excellent room this week, sorry, no prize, I'm all tapped out, I promised nec0 I would pay for the first month of therapy.......
At first I was gonna say maybe that's a little harsh on that nec0 guy but then I read his post and decided that he deserves to be deported to the middle of Liberia to die a horrible death of Ebola with no medical assistance. Probably the type of person who was molested as a kid by his stepfather and couldn't get accepted into the local gang as a teenager and now makes silly posts from his mother's basement while he shoots heroin and rapes little kiddies. But that's none of my business.

Western civilization will only be saved by me. AND YOUR ROOMS MAKE THE FAR EAST WISH IT WERE FARTHER AWAY FROM EVERYTHING. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO SPARE YOU GUYS THIS WEAK, BUT THE ROTW LORDS DECIDED TO TAKE A BREAK. NOW YOU WILL SUFFER.

Rocks, rocks, and more rocks. You know what this room needs? NOT MORE ROCKS YOU DINGBAT SEWERSLURPER! It needs some paper, because paper beats rock. You know what beats paper? A HORRIBLE PERSON WHO DOESN'T APPRECIATE THE FAIRER TREE! Also bubbles, bubbles beat paper.

YOU USED BUBBLES! You did not use any pipes with erotic drippy stuff though. . . I feel this is a leap forward and a step back. And you missed a golden opportunity to spell "Bubbles" in the BG made out of bubbles.

Man, this room keeps me planted in reality! I can't leaf it at all! I think the root of your problem my lie in the tiles fernished within the tileset, as there are a lot of plants. THE THINGS TO NOTE ARE HIDDEN IN THE DETAILS THOUGH. YOU HAVE MORE LAYERS THAN OGRES HAVE ONIONS, AND YOU STILL LACK THE CAKE!

You used Norfair tiles! You have, generally, good used of sand! You have rocks with a natural palette! YOU HAVE NO BUBBLES. What kind of snaggle-toothed fartbreather would use Norfair tiles and not use the bubbles? I don't know, but I have a feeling if I asked you I would find out. JUST A NOTICE TO EVERYONE HERE, DON'T BREATHE FARTS.

You leave today new people. After the shower you now inevitably feel you need to take, your perspective on life will change, and you will get back to hacking Metroid and maybe making something potentially decent. May your rooms be filled with bubbles and your pipes filled with drippy innuendo

Starting the new week.

Quote from: VismundThe reason that it looks like there's tiling errors in some spots is because everything is drawn on layer 1 except for the green "emeralds". Because of the fx1 in the room, having any of the cave tiles on layer 2 would have ruined the room in game. Unfortunately this meant making a compromise, which is unnoticeable in game but in the image looks like a bit of a tiling error. Judge away, judge away.

I'm loving the vibrancy of Jefe's room.  Just be careful with that inverted ramp on the right-hand side of the shaft near the bottom.  Just make it solid, and you're all set. :^_^:

Don't worry, I'm aware of these. Anyway this was only a test room to have a go with my tileet, so it deosn't work so well in-gane.

Jordan5

Jiffy, you can fix those tiling errors by making a new tile with the 45 degree slopes that uses the grey outline bit in the 4th quadrant - i did it in Magaluf so i know it works.

TobiMikami

I like the palette a lot but I don't much care for the straightness of that left hand wall, I mean, I see what you're going for, but the actual wall could benefit from being convex as well as concave, and besides that it makes walljumping too n00b friendly for a non-walljump tutorial room.

Grimlock

I have to agree with Tobi, your descending passageway could use some work to make it more natural looking.

TobiMikami

Also, to give you the chance to fix this before the contest so people don't go apeshit about this, and for the quality of your hack:

Not that it's a huge issue, but it's hard to unsee :P

Kte

Damn! Now that's all I can look at!
Also, as of now, both rooms are quite decent, but FullOfFail's is the better of the two.

Jiffy

Changed mine, try and spot the differences. :D

TobiMikami

The "Greenery" (If I can call it that since it isn't green xD) isn't a bad touch, but the color change in the bottom with the Tourian blocks  is a little..meh to me, at least from having already seen the brighter green, probably a contrast thing since the palettes were revamped and brightened up.

Quietus

Those, and the default doors. :^_^:

Woah - timing!  That was in response to the changes in Jefe's room.

Quietus

I'm going with Vismund this week.  The palette is to die for.  My only gripe is that without a floor, the reflection part makes it look like you'd run on the water.

I really liked Jefe's room too, so kudos to you! :^_^:

Retroo

i have hard to decide this week... but i will go for FullofFail this week =)

TobiMikami

Vismund got me sold on his room (Crateria ftw) plus that palette is pretty epic, the greenery isn't too vibrant but not too dark, and the rocks contrast really well.

snarfblam

Maybe it's just me, but this looks out of place.

Anyways, I'll vote for jaffers, despite the strange "pockets" along the sides of the room. I like the vibrant palette, and always appreciate the use of green in a room.

Quietus

It does look out of place.  It's because those blocks are usually placed in front of a background, so the corners don't matter.  They really need to be customised with some transparency to work in the open like that.

TobiMikami

I think it's actually a graphical hint, judging by the pocket in the middle of the rock formation I'd assume he hid a missile or something there. Touche Vismund. Touche.

Quietus

But that would still be possible if the corners were made transparent. :^_^:
