Well, that's awesome.

Also hi Jathys. I'd say something like 'COME AROUND MORE' but it's well-understood that the reason you don't come around so much anymore is because you're tired of being Mr. SMILE man. Still, nice to see you posting again. Post more.

Been there, done that... People complained when I did it.

Quote from: person701 on September 20, 2010, 04:07:01 PMZooming! :D This actually makes me wonder if Jathys will ever release 3.0...
At one point, Jathys had what he considered 2.9 running on his computer... It'd be a shame if the didn't go the extra 10%.  Amusingly enough, zooming was being created before people started complaining about what I was doing to the interface.

Just because you don't see me doesn't mean I haven't been around... I was Howser on irc a few weeks ago.  I've been a guest from time to time as well.

Long and short for me:
1) Will be passing SMILE's source (for the released version) to interdpth.  Hopefully he can figure out my spaghetti coding well enough to find some useful information to help him with his own project.
2) Will be releasing a 3.0 of SMILE, though I make no deadline.  It'll be a huge interface change, without needing to worry about people complaining about all the things I've changed (if you don't like it, use and older smile or use cheesy).
3) Will be trying to be more "visible" in the upcoming weeks and have one or two surprises still in me.

Sorry for the temporary hijack.  Will be creating my own thread for you to hijack in a few days.

Well I guess the little update's better than nothin' huh? =P

Okay, so I was deciding on how to handle getting rooms, I was thinkin of making a "Deep rom scan" where it'd search smartly for all rooms and put anyones in a list, so if you lose a room you can use deep room scan and get it back, or something.
Let me know what you guys want me to do.

Quietus

I think most of us would first like some official confirmation that you are sticking with the project before we make any suggestions.  If you're gonna drop it at some stage, it all seems a little worthless.

interdpth

I drop most projects at some stage when they get to much for me to handle, I'm currently developing this one albeit slowly but surely.

Silver Skree

Well, at least we'll still be getting SMAll. Fortunately my brother has not found the entrancing joys of Minecrack and is still actively developing it.

interdpth

Your brother is an awesome person.

If you can get this to work, that sounds like a great idea.

I was thinking of putting that into SMAll too

I thought he said something to the effect of disappearing completely after the last few visits he managed... but that included handing the source code to you before he did so. I assume you know as well as the rest of us do on Jathys' whereabouts?

DFPercush

SMAll 0.01 get. Source included.

I'm only posting this here because the two projects are related. Hope this helps.

Didn't he give this to someone else?

Zhs2

No. He's supposed to be working on it.

It may just be me, but one of the most annoying features in SMILE, which you could fix with this, is the necessity to scroll through the tileset.  If you could see the whole set at once, it'd be great.  Scrolling just gets annoying, fast.

Great job inter! This may be really nice to use. As for the name thing. would Room Files work?
Looking good :)

interdpth

Room Editing capabilities. What do you guys want, I'll wait 3 days for ideas to added up then make a poll on them.

GO GO GO

Scyzer

ability to view rooms close up, as well as a clipboard (select and copy multiple tiles), and copying BTS/Tile types without the graphic, and vice versa.

personitis

ASM creating feature! /noobiness

Maybe an undo feature?

begrimed

You know how in SMILE you can check the 'show type' button to put a red square around certain BTS like solids, air, etc? Being able to see if a tile has been flipped horizontally, vertically, or both would be good for optimizing rooms a bit. I bet that every hack ever released has accidentally wasted a lot of data by using flipped air/foreground tiles that you couldn't tell were flipped.

Quietus

  • I've mentioned it before, but not having to scroll through tilesets would be nice.
  • It'd also be pretty cool if, when you've copied some files, instead of a box outline indicating what you're placing you could actually see the tiles kind of attached to your pointer.  Right-clicking on anything would remove it, and select whatever you'd clicked instead.  Kinda like a mobile clipboard...
  • Zooming in and out on the fly.  Perhaps the square bracket keys or the mousewheel?
  • Selecting more than one 16x16 scroll area.
  • Bit of a wishlist one, but I'd like the ability to not just export the room to an image, but to simply copy it instead.  I've had a number of times where I've needed to stitch together rooms, and it'd be easier to copy the room straight to the clipboard for instant pasting, rather than exporting to an image, opening the image, and then copying.  As I say - wishlist item.
  • Viewable layer 3, preferably with the ability to toggle just like layer 2.
  • Ability to toggle tile animation on / off?
  • The ability to change scroll areas' colours without changing to a different view.  You would only need to change them when you're messing with scrolling.
  • Hovering over a scroll PLM for a second or two would display the changes to scroll areas' colours.
  • Another wishlist item: The ability to provide names for the rooms, to help you remember which room is what when you're editing.  So, when you click the drop-down to select a room it'd read something like 791F8 - Landing, 792B3 - Gauntlet, 795FF - Missile Lake, 79804 - Torizo, 79E9F - Morph ball, et cetera.

That'll do for now. :heheh:
