Temple of the Winds
a Super Metroid hack by Moehr and Albert V.
This is the first hack of 'A Hunter Born' series

New version 3.1 update:
Softlock found [thanks caauyjdp!] and fixed, and minor manual update to bring it up to 3.1 along with better image resolution
New version 3.0 update:
several quality of life improvements and bug fixes, including two additional save zones, less deadly poison, fixes to the Cyclone Beam and the boost to Thunder's power.

It is meant to be used with the attached manual, if you so choose, which has some additional background content.

Foreseeing a future disaster, the Chozo have sent you to an ancient temple to recover the artifacts there as the next stage of your training.

Posting a crash bug here at moehr's request. Be careful about shooting the door in Soul Anvil, as I somehow triggered a crash when I shot both the door and the enemy at the same time. ED was able to produce the crash once in testing, but couldn't reproduce it, so it seems pretty hard to trigger. But I figured it's worth being aware of, for anybody playing.

Also FYI, the manual gives out some useful information, for those of us who jumped right into playing without reading it. :heheh:

For people running the hack, if you want me to add a link to your run to the first post, send me the link and I'll add them. It can be a hate run if that's what happened, that's fine :D

Current time to beat (without walljumps) is 1 hour and 1 minute, 100% items.

Putting it in as a potential counts-as bug fix, but when I get to fixing bugs, the hanging parts of the broken bridge  in the first room should be identifiable as things you can stand on. If we have some suitable tiles (maybe the round circles) I will edit that to make it a bit more clear.

So far it's the noob bridge of TotW and the fact players have to think about it at all and aren't getting it means I got to do something different there.

Post for the gfx, ttb, palette files for the tilesets, and the IT and nspc files from the music assets from the game, in case people want to use them

On the second file (my second playthrough), I acquired all except the last Phoenix Stone (assuming 225 Thunder max), and ended up with 117%. Is this normal? Other than that, awesome game.

Thanks so much!

It is a glitch with the counter that I will be fixing when I do an update that will have some QOL stuff based on streams I've watched (poison down to 25%, thunder power increasing at a faster rate to get to a higher max power, save station on far side of skyway for example, solarium being named 'map room's etc) but I won't be messing with the item placement.

Planning on updating sometime in August so if you have a stream link I'll watch your playthrough, and if not, feel free to post anything else that's an issue.

I've found 3 of 4 Phoenix Stones, but can't find the last one. I found 1 in the starting area, 1 hidden above one of the rooms that had heatwave (pesky hidden one), and one oher that I know was not as hidden, but had a small puzzle to reach (can't remember which room). Can I have a hint?

Edit: Does the 'return with higher knowledge' clue mean anything in this regard, or is it just hinting that you should go 'higher' in the water room?

Edit 2: Is 240 the max Thunder obtainable?

this works in game perfectly with no cuts anymore, and has
better looping levels and echo sounds.

Finished it at 2:47 at 91%. Never managed to find the Vortex Shield. I enjoyed it and the art was very neat, along with some Mode 7 trickery that was very enjoyable to experience. I'll put a more comprehensive (and more critical) review up on the main site. That being said, I wanted to address some minor mistakes I noticed:

In the map screen, at the bottom-right there is some text that includes the word "arial". I'm assuming you're not referring to the font you find in Word documents, so I'm assuming the word you want to use is "aerial." :P

Similarly, there's a room with the name "Aquaduct". The proper spelling is "Aqueduct", unless the former was deliberate.

Updated with some QOL improvements including two new restorative save zones [one just inside the first temple entrance], enemies toned down some, bugs fixed including the endgame counter and the thunder power not increasing at a great enough rate, equipping the cloudboots lets you avoid falling back to your ship.

You'll probably still be dying some but one isn't sent back as far.

Posting it here til I've had a few more eyes on it in case one wants to compare vs the original.

Sorry guys, the new save after the skyway wasn't saved after I set it up, so restarts at the ship.

hi, yesterday i beat this hack, 240 "thunder" missiles tho, the hack is pretty impressive, so many asm, but this hack does hace a few things can be improved a bit, mostly quality of life ones.


-put some refill stations, the hack is pretty hard with almost no enemy drops.
- 10 power bombs, believe me, 5 is just not enough, and go to refill those is somewhat annoying
- storm (plasma) beam, is pretty weak, and charged version doesnt improve damage at all, another issue is some enemies like wirlwinds are inmune to it, i turned this beam off.
- some suitless underwater sections are pretty annoying, but some hacks are worse.

overall i put this hack 7.5 of 10, with some quality of life improvements this hack will become 9 of 10 indeed.

Hey did you use the rest update in the post above yours or download from the main site?

There is an update coming out soon, so I'm curious if you were playing the test update or the original release. The test update has a lot of QOL stuff including two new refill/save stations and the cyclone beam works better generally (a ton of other stuff too)

i played 1.2 version, then 2.1 in the final section, i'll love to play improved version and give thoughts. if you can upload it :)

Yes! I'll DM you the IPS for the wip which is pretty much done at this point, the end is a little improved as well but everything before the end is much better

Edit: NM can't figure that out, it's atached here, lemme know what you think of the new one.
