Hi everybody :)

My fourth post ^^
I hope I can share a Metroid video project with you guys without being obtrusive.
As I told you before, Iam a huge fan of the metroid series since the classic game on the NES. I played it as I got 4 yours old. ^^

In this video, Iam trying to do a Role Play of Super Metroid on the SNES. What does that mean? Well, I was always thinking about how the story of this older game could be told in a more deeper way by using voice acting for example. Just like in the Prime series, I wanted Super Metroid being more richer in giving the gamer more information about the story, history and background of the space pirates, Metroids and mother brain. It's not so easy for me because of my german origin, but I put much effort into it and spend much time in preparing the video.

It's only one video until now, but I will be more motivated to continue the project, if there were more interested people out there.

THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A PROMOTION ATTEMPT! I was really looking for a forum, where I can share my passion for the metroid series. But let's be honest. It's also a good feeling to get positive feedback. ^^ If it should be negative, it's also ok of course. :)

Well, I hope you won't be disappointed. It's always hard to convince gamers and fans, especially the veterans and retro-addicts out there. ;) Just like me.

Super Metroid ROLE PLAY (Voice Acting) - Part 1

Metaquarius

It is a decent start I believe, I feel sometimes the voice acting gets a bit overexagerated (ridley encounter ) and sometimes intonation is a bit bland.

Another thing which bothers me is the repetitive use of "shit", "damn" and "well" words, I think you can get around it most of the time. :^_^:

I like the use of sound effects (logbook, etc.) & reverb, you definitely need to use more of them. Something I really would like you to do (but you don't have to obviously) is to include sounds from various intelligent species Samus will encouter, to spice up this roleplay. For example, when she meets the Space Pirates, you may hear them yelling something in their own language or the Dachora/Etecoon/Metroid larva could be trying to communicate with our heroine in some way. Samus might have a quick talk with some GF people whe she gets back to her ship periodically ;) Just a few random ideas. :yay:

You should make the space pirates sound like the prawns from district 9! That would create a disturbing atmosphere.
As for the voice acting, it was decent. I'm more of a 'Samus is awesome because she's a silent character' but this project creates an exception.

I have an idea when you get to pink brinstar in terms of your narration.
You should totally have a spore get into your helmet and just start tripping out. (Like the toxic forest in Nausicaa but instead hallucinogenic.)
Talk about the visions and hallucinations while you bump into walls and enemies. Yeah..

I agree with most of the points above.  Your voice sounds fine.  There were some words that were mispronounced, but considering English is not your first language, you did a very good job with the rest.  You should definitely cut out 95% of the swearing.  It does you no favours, and sometimes undoes the good you've done with the rest of the video.  Also, don't be too worried about longer silences.  If Samus is an experienced Bounty Hunter, then she would see this as going to work, so she should be more confident, and not phased by the sight of enemies.

Hey guys :)
Thank you sooo much for your feedback. I really appreciate that.

I will try to reduce my swearing, but... you didn't hear me swear while Iam playing normal.
Iam extremely... "emotional" I'd say  :eyeroll:
Hard to get rid of it, I will do my best.

I like the idea concerning the sound effects, but I don't know where I could find them.
Please tell/show me and I will. :)

best regards

Quietus

You can find quite a few of the main Prime sound effects here. :^_^:
