I downloaded JAM's Accel Charge, Longbeam, and Walljump Boots patches, hoping to utilize at least the last of those. I do understand how to patch an .ips and how to patch an .asm, but what I don't understand is the second half of his instructions, the part relating to messages. Seeing as how the game functions fine until I actually pick up the item, whereupon it crashes, I assume that I'm not doing something right. How does one go about following those half of the directions?

EDIT: I have been messing around with it. I downloaded the Messenger v.4 patch, and from what I understand, I am supposed to replace the "_"s after the "; DB"s underneath the ;SmallMessageBox area with individual letters, thereby making up a message for, say, Accel Charge. Am I supposed to uncomment these letters, then? And after I make the full message, how do I tell the Accel Charge to use it? I am sorry if this is terribly noobish.

Are you trying to change what the messages say?

I've just done a test on the wall-jump patch, and it works fine, displaying the correct 'WALL JUMP' message.  I applied the .ips file, applied the .asm file, added the PLM files to SMILE's PLM folder, changed a PLM to F800 (wall-jump inside the chozo ball), and tested.  It worked fine for me.  Obviously there are no new graphics, as JAM didn't supply them.

Yeah, I may have overlooked things such as "it might not be compatible with other patches", lol. I'm using Scyzer's Prime HUD, and when I actually pick up the item, the game freezes and the top of the screen changes colour. So, it might just not be compatible with that patch. Shame, but...happens
