I want to do a full sprite hack of Samus

To do so, does anyone have any suggestions for a program that would be more efficient than using Tile Edit Pro to change Samus' animations? Got a link to the newest version of Tile Edit Pro?

Metroidz

First off this is the wrong forum, so your topic will get moved as soon as the staff sees, second, there's a similar topic based on the "More efficient than TLP" thing, generally there are other programs like Tile Molester but they all work generally the same, there should be a link on the "Tools" page to the newest version otherwise it should be up to date on Jathy's site.

this is not necessarily the wrong place for the thread. However it may help if you had some content like pictures of the sprites you've made. But that's off topic, and mini modding....
Though tile Layer pro is a gfx editor just like TM or yy-chr, they are very different.
For editing the sprites, I'd suggest you stick with tlp but there are certainly advantages to TM. Such as the fact that the whole rom/gfx sheet is your canvas, and what I mean by that is instead of picking a square, and then working in a tile editor seperate from the rest, in TM you just edit it all directly. You can zoom in, and then you can see a lot more as you're working. However, tlp is certainly more comfortable, especially for a begginer, since you likely won't need all the extra tools that yy-chr and TM give you. It's mostly personal preference. I suggest you try them all and see which you work best in.

Short answer is 'no, there are no programs that will make this any easier'.  It's such a mammoth job, particularly if you intend to change the entire set.  I wish you luck.

Even a small edit to Samus' graphics is a massive job. I was going to color the 'wings' on her boots, and the knees/elbows of her suit a different color for an aesthetic touch. I gave up pretty quickly when I realized most parts weren't identifiable without testing them ingame. Auximines posted a screenshot somewhere of his progress while making the Justin Bailey patch, and it was crazy. I think he edited numbers into each tile, then played around until he saw them appear ingame and used all of that as a reference for editing. Have fun with that, but good luck nonetheless.

I suppose I should reference some of my past work. Here, this is what I have done thus far:

Play Zelda 3 as Derpy!

If you manage to successfully replace Samus with a good-looking Derpy, my laughter will transcend time.

That video was awesome! But good luck trying to edit samus' sprites, you'll need it. Patience is also a must!  :^_^:

Here's a shot I made from the ROM a while back:

Using numbers that were color-coordinated was the technique I used to mod ALttP. I was thinking of Lyra or Twilight sparkle and not Derpy this time. I also want to know how to change the position of the sparkle when firing and using the Charge Beam. I thought it would be a cool idea to have it come out of her horn.

Does anyone have a good pallet file for Super Metroid that can be used in Tile Edit Pro? Sorry I'm asking so many questions. I'm still relatively new to this sort of thing.

Metroidz

In SMILE in the Beauty Salon you can export the palette for any of Samus's suits, which is what I generally recommend, I would say it's in your best interest to get the figure correct with the original palette, this way you know accurately what you're looking at, then find the palette for the colors you want and adjust anything that needs it.

Wow...that's well ummm....Well I'd assume it's more popular among the MLP fan-bases which is well...well when you have people making SM Justin Bailey hacks for...I guess half of me is shocked and the other half of me is like "I don't want to live in a world where a children's show has this much of an audience of those over 12 years" Another part of me wonders how in the hell it was possible to make this figure conversion, I mean I honestly at first was like "Hmm good luck with that" but holy crap In short...My mind is blown.

I'm just waiting for the Fluttershinesparkle. :^_^:

Oh? You're the dude who made that. Someone made a thread about that hack advertising it as it needed more help with bug fixes on board 2.

anyhow, if you're looking for making pony replacement for super metroid there are three things to note!

1. It's a shit ton of work, no really, it is! Here have a tile sheet:

2. It's going to look extremely silly unless you recode the poses and shapes to fit the pony figure.

3. Someone is already working on one. I recall seeing a video of it a while back. :p

You mean three posts ago? :p

sorta, not the same video though. But yeah, that project. :P

Excuse me gentlemen, I don't mean to interrupt, but since there IS a way to change all of her sprites, is it possible that in the future someone will hack all of her sprites and change them into an entirely different suit? Like this, for example:
http://metroidr.brpxqzme.net/index.php?act=resdb&param=03&c=1&id=288
Zhs2

It is possible, someone has already done it, and, as a couple people have pointed out, it was no easy feat (and it continues not to be. Auximines' work is a testament to his dedication.)

As for the earlier video I had linked, Scyzer did not mess with Samus at all to achieve the effect of a new character. She repointed the tilemaps and wrote all of the poses for the pony by hand, which is probably a lot better than messing with Nintendo's code. Either you work with Samus, or you find a way around, and the latter requires a pretty good bit of knowledge.

I think I deserve a slap in the face  :colonrightv:

I believe those sprites are for Game Maker which freecodes sprites not like SMILE and TLP which are editing what is already there.

samus11able

Wait, so it is possible to use Game Maker to edit Super Metroid?

samus11able

Man.... that sucks.... I just want to try and change the sprites, but I can't open up a spritesheet on tlp.
