Well, this is the result of me using DC's map patch:

Note the Samus's ship in the mini-map.

And...

My new physics, I've done today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nXC_kNv_Vw
Lunaria

I would make the falling speed of samus slower.

When falling down a shaft you have never been in before, you have no idea what's down there, if you fall too fast then you have no time to react to whatever threat might be there.

Other then that, the physics are cool I guess.

I'm hoping that was my ASM I did that allows SFX for items instead of music clips, cause that means it works =D. Did that for grime ages ago, but he didn't say if it worked for him or not.

Oop, sorry about that. I meant to tell ya that it does indeed work. Swimmingly, even.

Hmmm...  Anyone have a link to it?  Cause it's not with the other patches or in the collaboration thread...  (assuming it's a public patch that is)

I have it, but I did it for Grime's hack. That said, it's up to him whether it's public or not. I'm not gonna write some ASM for someone's hack, then release it publically so everyone can have it, cause it's what makes that hack unique.

Crashtour99

Oh, I hear ya.  Just thought I'd ask on the off chance it was indeed public.
It's all good.

That's an awesome looking map licker, love it.

Scyzer

They're probably the best map tiles I've seen. Now you just need to edit the border and it'll be frikken epic.
I still need to get rid of the damn blue boxes on mine (where the L MAP/SAMUS R icons are). Dunno how to do that, but I'll probably just change the palette.

Then my status screen needs to be reorganised. Soooo much hex...

Thanks and, well, the border is already changed. The pipes are more thick now.
But Sadistyk, I need to know something: you used Hex and map patch to make your border, right?

Well, my new Brinstar tilesets:
Don't care to the E-Tank/Map, I need to change the palette yet. And yes, I will change this background soon.

FullOfFail

In all honesty, I find those brinstar tiles to be ugly. I think I see where you're going with this, having layer 1 be in front and making it look like you're walking on layer 2. But I think if that's what you was aiming for you should've had the snow tiles in front, and the rock tiles on the inside. Almost like you're peering into a snow covered mountain into the cavern area where snow wasnt able to get too. the lighter brown tiles seem too linear, you could make them more bumpy. Keep tweeking it.

I just used hex to change the tilemaps, that's basically it. Have to go through the ASM to change the pallete changes so the buttons work though. And I needed to change the tilemaps for the area names so even-lettered names were still in the center.

Now about the new tiles, I can't say I like them too much. They'd be good dirt, but as border tiles, definitely not, cause they don't have an "edge".

thelicker

Sadystick, they have an edge, it's the dark-brown part.
Yes, the border is thick, but it is my objective, make those tiles original  :^_^:
Now, some more variation:

Scyzer

Ahhhh that's the "edge". It looks quite weird, cause 1, yes it is very thick, and 2, cause the border is normally a lighter color than the inside, so it looks in front. It looks like the dark dirt is part of the BG in layer 1 (much like the dark Crateria tiles going in layer 1 in the landing site), and the light tiles make up the actual part you can stand on.

See this image. My border is more thick than it, but I like this style.
I actually already have the inside dark tiles in my Crateria tileset. I want something different to Brinstar.
And what's the dark dirt? The dark part of the land part? Or the dirt part of the snow?
If is the land part, I don't see why you think it is a BG in Layer 1. It not looks it.
All in the image are in Layer 1, except the green part. I can't see anything wrong with the tiles (except for the light part of the land be simple, I already modified that today).
New snow and light-land tiles:

Lunaria

The tiles are in general fugly and the pattern is both to small and very boring. :/

FullOfFail

If you're trying to do layers then you're doing it wrong. Have the darker on the outside, lighter closer to the middle and the snow in the middle on the surface. The way it's set up right now tells me that the brown part is closer than the snow part, like it's in the very foreground. You should remove those green and brown blocks to the right, they're sooo out of place there. Even though you're designing an alien environment, the same laws still apply, it has to look natural and realistic.

thelicker

Well, actually it is very realistic (except for the green and brown blocks, yes).
The surface is Snow-full, below have land. But, some parts of the surface NEED to have land too, to make it more realistic.
Got what I said? When have snow in your Country (USA, right?), I think some parts of the ground have land too. Well, at least in the beggining of the snowing.
I am not wanting to do layers.

thelicker

I need a opnion here...
I have maked some ice to my tileset. But, which ice is better to ICE? The darker, or the brighter?

The_Licker: the bottom one looks much better. The top looks....fugly, that's all I can say.

Edit: when you make a door, make sure that there is no pixel space between the door and ground. Also snow under a door is weird...

Quietus

Agreed.  The bottom one looks better, but I'd say snow rather than ice.

FullOfFail

This looks alot better than what you had before, but it doesnt really look like ice. The top part of the bottom ice looks weird, too blockish. Maybe try having more of a variety of ice tiles so you can make different sized icicles. The layer parts look much better too, the dark looks like pebbles.

Now that you mention it, it does look too blockish and it doesn't have enough variety. Spice it up licker or ill cut you with my D. Sword! :P

Altzan

Bottom looks better but not as ice, but snow maybe.
Try editing the top to have a reflective sheen on it (hard with 16-bit, I know) and that might make it look icey.

The "blockish top part" is propositaly, it makes the tiles looking, ice.
Here is a image, a comparison of the snow (top-right corner) and the blue ice. The difference is big, huh?!

But I think I'll put in the ice the same "rocky" structure I put in the darker-land tiles, but frozen. If it be better, I will post other image. If not, then I have no idea of how make it looking like ice.
I think I'll change the color of the ice, too. Make it more "greenish", to looks like a ocean water frozen.

Katelyn

The_Licker: your "snow" looks strange. I personally think it looks nothing like snow. Other people might think its good, but its hideous in my eyes. Just sayin'
