Grimlock

I just beat the fourth light world dungeon.  I didn't find an item though.  I'm assuming there probably wasn't one since I was given one (trying really hard to spoil anything) at the end.  Am I right or did I just totally screw up since I can't enter the dungeon anymore?

I finished this hack last night - was excellent :)
The blue ring was in the light world skull castle.  Apparently, you are awarded with it as well when you finish the castle.

Guess ya didn't look hard enough

Did you find the red lantern yet?  Believe it or not, I finished the game without it and had to watch a Lets Play to find it afterwards

Hint:
Search the light world graveyard

I missed that one but there must have been a bug, here's what I mean:
I was looking around the dungeon, took some stairs and ended up next to the boss room.  I knew I hadn't gotten any item yet so I checked my map and saw an area I should back track to.  So I closed my map and no stairs.  For whatever reason by design or by glitch there was no way to go but fight the boss.  I figured I wasn't going to be able to beat him without the silver arrow (as in the original), but managed to defeat him with the sword.  No big deal I thought, I'll just enter back into the dungeon and explore that section I missed.  Nope, the dungeon is sealed.  I got the Ocarina at the end so I thought maybe there wasn't an item since you got that.  If it was the blue ring I guess it's not the end of the world, I'll just have greater difficulty until I find the red ring assuming it's in the game.  I was just hoping it wasn't a game breaker item like the hammer or something to that affect

I got the red lantern, that wasn't too bad to locate.  The old lady gives you a tip in the village.

Thanks for the reply.

Oh yeah,
I forgot you received the ocarina after completing the castle, not the blue ring  :eyeroll: m'bad.

I also never bothered going to check if the door was sealed since I had no reason to go back.

...Good luck without the blue ring!

If you get jammed up again just ask and a tip will be provided.
Regarding the ring:
I actually just found the blue ring in the dark world next to links house, in a chest.  I'm thinking the Ocarina was probably the item in the castle.  I got the hammer in the dungeon following the castle.

Did you play through version 4.0 or is it an earlier version.  I know he's moved things around a bit through the revisions.

I played through v2.0
I feel like I picked up the blue ring twice in my playthrough.  One in the dungeon, and one immediately after the dungeon, for in case you missed it.

Or maybe you're correct that the only item in that level in v4.0 is the ocarina.

I'm kind of forgetful :pwuh:  Drives my girlfriend f**king insane
Silver Arrow:
I got to the final boss in the skull castle (Dark World).  I found the red ring but not the silver arrow.  Any idea where it is?  I hope it wasn't in the first skull castle although that wouldn't make much sense since you don't even have the bow until later.

It's
In the final castle, just keep looking.
If you want to know exactly where it is...
I think it was in the right "eye" room

Grimlock

I completed version 4.0 earlier today. Zelda, the legend of Link, is truly a masterpiece modification of the original.  The items, music, graphics, and overall design were masterfully done.  It sets the bar very high for others that may follow in his footsteps, it would be a monumental undertaking to surpass it.  It pushes the bar higher for the hacking community as a whole.

I've seen some people nitpicking elements of this hack but expecting perfection really is unrealistic.  I followed the development thread at Board 2 and was impressed with Infidelity's drive and relentless push to weed out as many bugs as he could before calling it done.  I personally think the minor anomalies I encountered playing the hack were minimal.  I did experience a stuck spot and one freeze, with modern emulators save states make it a none issue.

A couple interesting things I discovered during my play through:
(Fun bugs and anomalies)
If you ignite the blue lantern and then hold the swing button to charge a spin attack the light level will remain until you release your swing attack.

There is a chest in the lower left corner of the light world that respawn with a heart container piece if you go from dark to light world.  I spammed it for a few so I could get the tempered sword (I only needed a couple pieces), I held back and didn't abuse it since I still wanted to search for the rest of the hidden chests.

With the thunder amulet you can kill anything including NPCs (none player characters).  It's really funny when used in the shops.  You can even kill the fairy in the over world.
