So...
Who else found the broken version of the Wave Beam?
You mean there's a different one? </sarcasm>
I make sure to get the "fun" Wave Beam every run, even if it does do weird things when turned off.  Unfortunately, for some reason the bonus boss in the secret area does not work correctly on my version of zSNES, causing the room to be filled with garbage tiles (upper two tiles of a Power Bomb door, to be specific) and locking Samus in place.  Thankfully, SNES9x does not have this problem, except for the fact that I hate using it.

Make sure you're using my updated patch.

I updated the patch DMan. The Boss Room should work now. Everyone check this post for the updated patch, and download the attachment.

I was.  I first downloaded this hack in mid-august.  The only thing I can think of is my zSNES might be out of date, but I doubt it.

Omegatroid

It was a fun hack! I finally found the plasma beam and now I'm looking for the X-Ray scope. I also like the secret area too.

Well, the 'room filled with garbage tiles' error is almost always caused by an incorrect Level Data pointer, but my last patch fixed that specific room. The 'latest' ZSNES has been 1.51 for the last, like, 5 years.  :colonrightv:

Unfortunately, then, I'm not sure what to say.  I redownloaded zSNES and the patch just to be sure, and ran into the same error again.

Okay, I'm about to cover all bases here, and am going to try to noob-proof my questions
1.) Is your ROM unheadered? I don't know if you know this (I don't know how knowledgeable you are with ROM hacks in general), but if you open the Properties box on your ROM, and it's size is exactly 3,146,240 bytes, it has a header. Use SMILE to remove it, then patch the ROM again.

2.) I assume that you know that when you apply a patch, it must be done on a fresh ROM each time? If you're using the same patch on a previously patched ROM, then you'll need to acquire a fresh ROM first.

3.) Finally, are you using MY patch, or the one in the first post? MY patch is linked below.

If you've beaten the game mostly through without any freezing, then your error might not be with patching, however (although you might also be using the wrong patch; read number 3). Are you running ZSNES on Mac, Linux, or Windows? I personally run ZSNES on Windows 7 64-bit, and it plays perfectly fine. Try using SMILE's Test Room feature. Go to Settings->Run Settings->Test Room Options. Give yourself max Energy (05DB), max Reserve Energy (0190) and Charge Beam. Go to the room 7E06B, hover the mouse over an Air block, then press 'E' on your keyboard. Go to the boss room. If it still is messed up, then one of three things are happening:

1) You're using the wrong patch
2) You're using the (buggy) Linux version
3) You're running ZSNES in an emulated environment (ex.: Wine) on Linux or Mac

My patch can be found here.

Quietus

To add to the bit about the ROM, check that it's also a clean dump.  If you load the ROM on its own, the emulator should say Checksum OK, and the CRC32 should read D63ED5F8.

The original ROM is headered, stripped it in SMILE, and applied the patch.  I used the patch linked in the first post that FullOfFail credited to you.  Is it different than the one you just linked to?  Also, the rom is a clean dump as far as I am aware.  I am on Windows 7, so the only thing resembling emulation is compatibility mode.

By emulation, I mean what program you're using to play the game.  Is it ZSNES, snes9x, Bizhawk, or another?  Usually when you load a ROM, you get a load of text displayed for a few seconds.  That's where the information I mentioned will be. :^_^:

Yes, it is different. The one I linked fixes the boss room you mentioned, and the one FoF links to in the first post does not.

Sorry, must've dropped the ball. I updated the original link with your newest patch though. Let me know if it ever gets updated again.

Edit: Is the one that's on the main site the correct version?

M1CR0H4CK3R

Yes, FoF, the one on the site is the correct version. I just checked.

Technomagus

Ah, thanks.  That clears that up, then.

2.)
Search the top-right corner of the Landing Site (791F8). Rescuing the critters in the room after the boss unlocks the 'ES' doors, which hold the major upgrades, allowing you to get them earlier (as early as directly after you get Missiles if you follow Part 1 of the Video Walkthrough linked in the first post).
The problem with that link is the site demands you register to even view the videos

There's a 'Login with Facebook' button, but I assume you don't have Facebook. Try this link instead. It uses a Nicovideo proxy to access the videos, and you don't need to register.

Omegatroid

This ROM hack works better on Snes9x with no errors. On ZSNES, you will end up in a room with garbage.

I have Facebook, but I am currently using my iPad, and Facebook Login goes to a browser instead of the Facebook for iOS app.

snibsnib

Don't know if it will help but I use this proxy to watch Nico videos, should be ipad friendly http://polsy.org.uk/play/nico/

Uhhhhh, which patch are you using? Use the one here. It fixes the 'garbage' rooms.

What if just remove the glitched version?

Quietus

Or at least edit the OP to link to the correct patch / reply.

I thought it was already the right one?

Quietus

It appears to be under the top link.  Perhaps just remove the old English link, or make the main one more prominent?

altoiddealer

I completed this hack a few days ago, but wasn't satisfied due to missing some items (Charge beam, Spazer, Plasma, X-Ray) and having never fought Ridley or Gold Torizo.

I had to "cheat" and read through this topic to find Spazer, Plasma and X-Ray, along with the entrance to the lower Spozo Ruins.

I'm just about finished now with probably a high percentage... I came across a multitude of ridiculously over-obscured hidden expansions during my playthrough.
All things considered, this was an interesting hack that I enjoyed playing.  I probably won't play it again, though.

Pros:
-Cool gimmicks (controllable shinesparking!)
-Lots of exploration
-Nice puzzles. I had lots of "Eureka!" moments.

Cons:
-So many expansions hidden with no indication whatsoever.  Also, tons of expansions hidden in a very inconspicuous manner.
-X-Ray room WTF

The item progression can be pretty wacky in this hack, especially if (like me) you snag the super early powerbombs in the landing site after getting bombs.  Finding them actually made me quite disoriented because it was still so early in the game that I feared it could have been part of the natural item progression, and that I was surely going to lose my mind trying to find all the other required items if they were hidden that well.   I also discovered the entrance to the Secret Area, but got my ass swiftly reamed by Spore Spawn's 1 hit kill (No E-Tanks found yet).

After I got Power Bombs, I was able to stumble through the rear entrance of the "boss reward room" in Nature Caves to get Super Missiles before finding the map room and realizing what I did.

I then found the map room in Spozo Ruins and noticed the orange item room (which turned out to have Speed Booster), paired with the Recharge / Save Room in between.  Looked like a bonafide "hell run" to me, so after a couple attempts I was pretty bummed when I finally made it through and was not rewarded with Varia.

By this point I found like 3 E-Tanks so I went and did the Secret Area, freed the animals... but had to do it a second time, conserving my Super Missiles so I could defeat the Ninja Pirates at the end.

Then, I just started finding items in a very bizarre sequence through those ES doors... first, Screw Attack which I thought was nuts only having like 3 E-Tanks and missing just about everything else.  I then snagged Speed Booster, then Gravity suit very quickly after nabbing Varia.  Then Grapple, High Jump, Space Jump, Springball...

The last item I found before killing mother brain was Ice Beam, after not having found any other beams.

This hack is latest version in Japanese Download Link.
A newest version is 1.9.

FullOfFail

Alright, added the 1.9 zip to the original post. Let me know if anyone has any problems. I'll go ahead and add it to the main site and submit it to romhacking aswell (if it's not already).
