OK, is the trial room the one in Marida with expansions for energy, missile, supers and power bombs?  Because I am having major issues with this room, in fact it's proving to be a bit of a trial  :heheh:

No, the trial room is in Lower Norfair. You've stumbled upon the blue suit room.

You should have entered by zipping up from below. When you do, you'll have blue suit.

In case you don't know, blue suit will break speed boost blocks on contact. You lose blue suit when you use the run button and crouch. You have to walk when you have it, and if you want to morph, jump and midair morph.

Thanks! It was easy once you explained how the blue suit works  :^_^:

advancedpillow

By blue suit do you mean the gravity suit? Because my gravity suit ain't breaking any kind of blocks.

No.  There is a room in Maridia that when you enter it you start flashing like you've got infinite shinespark but it's not shinespark.  Only works in that particular room.

you can speed boost in Morph Ball form once you pick up the Speed Booster.

How? I can't get this to work.

Quietus

Normally if Boost Ball has been included, you just hold the run button while moving left or right, and the speed booster will kick in just like when you're running.

You'll know when you're in it, although its hidden pretty obscure. The entrance is...
in a room where you can fall through sandy ledges
As for the boost ball,
you won't be able to perform it until you pick up Springball.
I'm enjoying this hack! Its at a good difficulty level with many rewarding surprises.  But yeah, that tiling  :nope:

Mission completed ! 85%  5:23

Cool hack, a lot better than Airy in the fun department. Not really visually appealing to say the least, but eh. Difficulty is allright for me, except when it comes to get that Plasma beam.
What kind of trick do you have to perform to get past the Kago in the acid-rising room ? I've tried to do the "jump through ceiling" glitch but it's not working !

I'm really confused about this "blue suit" room in Maridia.  I enter it from below?  It's not on the map I assume?  I found what I thought was the correct room (it's got several powerups and a bunch of speed boost blocks), but I entered it from the side and didn't have bluesuit.  I guess I need a bigger hint.

Also, is the trial room in Lower Norfair where plasma is?  Or is plasma somewhere else?  Also confused about that.  Thanks!

Edit:  Figured out the Maridia room right after posting.

Ok, this is the last time (probably) that I ask for a hint with this hack.  I think I've got access to the exit of the trial room and not the entrance.  Am I right in thinking the entrance is via a vertical shaft to the east of lower Norfair?  If so how do I open it? (it's greyed out for me)

ianfrombristol

Apologies for the bump, but I really want to beat this trial room.  I've entered from the left and destroyed the second nest thing (sorry I don't know the name )  but am now stuck  and slowly dying of acid indigestion   How do I progress to the right hand side of the room?

DonnyDonovan

I know the next couple of challenges involve using the grapple beam to go through barriers.  I made it past that.  Then there's a place where you can jump out of the acid and use the little enemies that come out of the Kago to refill your life.  At that location is a section of ceiling that I think there is a way to jump through, but, I haven't figured out how to do that.  I don't know how much is left after that.  I'm sure plenty.

ianfrombristol

Thanks Donny.  It's sounds like we have both got to a similar position

I manually translated part of the readme, and found the intended item/boss order:
Morph Ball → Missiles → Charge Beam → Bombs → Super Missiles → Spazer Beam → Kraid → Wave Beam → Power Bomb → Speed Booster → High Jump Boots → Spore Spawn → Ice Beam → Phantoon → Varia Suit → X-Ray Scope → Spring Ball → Crocomire → Grapple Beam → Botwoon → Gravity Suit → Draygon → Space Jump → Plasma Beam → Golden Torizo → Ridley → Screw Attack → Tourian → Mother Brain

It was a pain to translate, by the way.

By the way, what are the item totals in this game? Is it 14 Tanks, 4 Reserves, 230 Missiles, 40 Supers, and 40 PBs? Or are there only 210 Missiles? If there are 230 Missiles and 50 Supers/PBs, then I've got a loooong search ahead of me... :/
Edit: I just found out that the item totals must be the same as the original game, since the values at $8B:E717-E720 are unchanged from the original.

Taekan

There's an item with the same low index value, that's why there's a missing missile that should be in this room:

Checked with SMILE, so maybe the hack's creator didn't notice this. Besides that, there's nothing else in that room, the "showed area" to the right is empty, maybe another mistake from him/her?

I've looked EVERYWHERE, but I'm still missing 1 Super Missile (if I get the 2 in Tourian), and I will have 1 extra Missile pack if I get the two in Tourian. Is this supposed to happen? Did the author make a mistake? Or am I missing something?

Edit: I modified the room Taekan mentioned in the last post, and made the Missile have a low value of 0x70. It then allowed me to acquire it. That's probably where my 'extra' is coming from, but where's the Super Missile?!

GoldenTorizo

So far, I have Bombs, Morph ball, 15 Missiles and Charge Beam. Now, I am stumped as to where I'm supposed to go and what to do next.

your next target is Super Missiles. They're in Norfair, and require a short heat run. There are plenty of enemies, and a health refill station along the way.
If you are still stuck (I assume you got to Norfair, at least):
In the room with the health refill station, you'll want to get to the door in the top-right corner as quickly as possible, and you should have 2-3 (3 if you IBJ to a certain one) Energy Tanks by the time you get to Norfair, which will be plenty if you got the 'extra' one.
GoldenTorizo

Thanks, but I have no idea where Norfair is... I've been going in circles for about an hour.

Go to the room with the elevator to Crateria in Brinstar, then go through the bottom tube. In the next room, go through the lower door, and keep going until you reach an area where the music changes. Finally, go all they way to the bottom of that room, and JUMP JUST BEFORE going through the door on the right. holding left. You'll gravity jump to the top of the water-filled room. Kill the two Fighting Pirates with 3-4 missiles each, then enter the door on the top-right for an early Spazer Beam. After that, it is straight on to Norfair.
M1CR0H4CK3R Exercise Map is online.

I'm looking for a missing power bombs pack.

Check the Grappling Beam room. There's one above the top-right corner. :)

This is the one I was looking for.
Thank you.

I found the Super Missile I was missing:

Can't believe I missed such an obviously located one. I was checking to see if I had gotten the other super missile that you can see in the pic, and 'accidentally' stumbled upon it while trying to shoot the enemies in the room. I also had no clue it was there until today. Go figure. :/

GoldenTorizo

There's a pair of items I can't seem to get. It's located in Maridia where I'm gonna need to do some tricky speed booster tricks to get. Any idea how I'm supposed to do that?
