Thanks Shyguy. Guess I need to look around a bit more

MetroidMst

However, I cannot say if that is the intended route. You can do it, but there is also another place you should check out near where you picked up Speed Booster at some point. I think this hack was made to be a bit more open, so I can't say for sure which one you are supposed to do first.

Is it just me or are the bosses stupid hard? they hit extremely hard and i only have two energy tanks. kraid took me like 15 tries. the freaking platforms that he shoots out his fat belly are sped up and seemed to constantly hit me as soon as i tried jumping back up to that damn platform. i basically had to farm health while i stood there dodging everything. took me like 20 minutes to complete it finally. phantoon's probably not gonna happen; i cant last more than a minute or so. i think i need to find more e tanks... frustration sets in.

DonnyDonovan

I found Kraid very tough for the reason you mention.  He's aggressive as hell with the projectiles.  I didn't find Phantoon so bad.  Having spazer helps a ton in mining fireballs for energy.

Digital_Mantra

I retract my statement about phantoon. I played it again on console this time and I took another route to him with more beams/ammo. The reason I had problems was cause I ibj'd through norfair after geting pbs.

Kraid is perfection. His faster gut spikes and health make for a battle that most boss battles should aspire to.

Says the man who designed Cliffhanger... :eyeroll:
:heheh:

MetroidMst

All the major bosses except Ridley got a sizable health boost. And as you mentioned, Kraid does have a speed to his flaccid belly protrusions attacking you. Strangely though, Ridley actually has less health than his unedited form. I don't even know.

i just beat phantoon. i ended up having to do that thing where you freeze him while you take small steps forward. i would be hard pressed to beat him without utilizing that little glitch. not sure if this is good design or what... or maybe i just haven't found enough e tanks. i only have three. or...maybe i suck. :=x:

I beat him with 3 e-tanks and I reckon I must have inadvertently glitched him, as at one point he just hung around next to me with his eye open and I unloaded most of my 30 missiles in his spud ugly face.  For the rest of the battle I sucked and had to farm health off his fire balls just to stay in the fight. Also it took me 5 attempts to achieve this narrow victory  :pwuh:

PokeyTroid

Phantoon was stupidly difficult for me; I went in with 3 E-Tanks, 4 supers, and about 25 Missiles. No beams except Charge, either. I just didn't have enough ammo to take him down, and the difficulty arose from having to leave the safety of the corner to go grab refills. I think you can have Ice/Wave/Spazer before you need to fight him, which would probably make him much easier.

Kraid though? Loved it. I was constantly moving and jumping throughout the entire battle, and his health and damage were just high enough. It was a fast-paced battle, but it didn't feel cheap. There might not be many safe spots, but everything is avoidable if you're quick enough.

If you're having trouble with Kraid, try to stay on defense. Watch for the belly spikes, jump over them and shoot Kraid at the same time, and pay attention to the flying fingernails. When you get knocked off the platforms, wall jump up to the ceiling and over the incoming belly spikes when you try to get back up.

I just defeated Draygon, got the
space jump
, but I only have varia. I think I am now permastuck inside Draygon's pit. Am I missing some hidden escape route? Any help would be awesome!

Edit: Ok. So I was able to exit Dragon's pit without the Gravity suit.
I started running in the space jump room, and jumped at the last possible pixel before the room transition.
That propelled me up and out of Draygon's pit. If this is the intended way to go, I don't think it should require you to feel like you're sequence breaking. Then again, this is called "Exercise." So, maybe I just needed some practice.

Edit 2: I found the Gravity suit. I can't  believe I missed it. :<_<:

MetroidMst

Yeah. . . To my knowledge you should have got Gravity first there.

Just want to say this hack is pretty awesome.  Also, I too got to Draygon pre-gravity, but simply reverted to an earlier save as I was getting my ass handed to me horribly.  I've since located Gravity.

Edit: Others have had trouble with Phantoon.  I didn't.  But Ridley is raping me repeatedly.  Is there something I'm missing?  I've got 7 tanks and 24 supers, I feel like I should be winning easily, but I've lost like 10 times in a row.

PokeyTroid

Did you find Plasma? That'd probably help a lot.

IIRC Ridley's health was lowered a little in this hack, which makes sense because you're probably going to end up fighting him without Samus's best weapons and fewer Energy Tanks, to boot.

I just had a look in SMILE, and Ridley's health has been decreased from 18000 to 17744. That's about three Missiles less.

So once you use all of your supers on him, it'll take 34 Missiles. Count them, focus on dodging him, maybe use Power Bombs to keep him away from you...

I'm really not sure how to handle him at your current state. My entire Ridley strategy revolves around using the Screw Attack defensively.

DonnyDonovan

I don't have Screw Attack yet either.  That would probably help.  I'll look around LN some more.  From reading the thread I'm assuming plasma is the room that requires all the deliberate glitch abuse?  Uh yeah, I'll be passing.  I can make it through about the first three or four.

I feel like I've hit him with what you say he takes but I must be missing more shots than I realize.  He's pretty red by the time I die.  I must be coming close and just need to play a little more defense to pull it off.

Edit:  Found a few more powerups, another e-tank, and beat him without much fuss.  I was off last night I guess.

been playing this hack and I've missed X-ray scope, where can I find it at?

Wrecked Ship. You know how the section near Phantoon has those doors back out to Crateria? Have a look around Crateria there.

I'm a little ways into this and I'd like to give a brief review of my experience so far.

This hack should only be played by those that can infinite wall jump. You will also need a degree of patience in the very beginning, which I'll explain below.
I wasn't really impressed with the hack for the first 20-30 mins.  Progression was slow and not very interesting... looking for the first missile expansion felt like playing a LoZ hack where Link's sword is hidden in some obscure area on the other end of the world map.  Once acquired, I haven't felt too lost or frustrated since; the pacing became more to what I'm accustomed to in a good SM hack. Also, the design became much more interesting and there's lots of unique things implemented.

There are many places that you must be proficient in walljumping. There is a hell run that took me 3 or 4 tries. However, it offered a decent margin for error if you found the 2 tanks prior to attempting.

There is a room which alternates every 4 seconds from being a normal room to being a water room. Its the most unrealistic scenario ever concocted, but it added an interesting challenge without being too annoying.

Unless I'm mistaken, everything so far has been linear up until I found myself performing a pretty tricky maneuver to get under the closing gate by the Wrecked Ship. I'm not sure if this was the intended route... if so, I can see this being fairly difficult to pull off by the average player.  Intended entry is probably speedboost-ball plus bounceball... but a well-timed mockball got me through. Caution if you go this route: Phantoon was extremely challenging with 2 tanks, charge, ice, and 35 missles. I got very lucky on my 5th attempt and succeeded without resorting to savestates  :bounce:

So that's where I'm at now and I look forward to playing again later on
Quietus

The water trick has been used before.  I think it may have been in Limit..?  I seem to recall having to time your jumps well to collect a missile expansion (in Limit).

MetroidMst

I do not believe mockballing is ever required either. If you can do it, you can get to someplace earlier, but you can speed boost in Morph Ball form once you pick up the Speed Booster. I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure you can grab it before you have to mockball.

altoiddealer

Thanks Mets, I revised my review

DonnyDonovan

Yup, Limit used the alternating water/non water trick first.  Massive gravity jumps are super fun.   And mockball is useless in this hack once you get speed boost and spring ball.  Boosting in ball form is also fun.  I love this hack overall.

Digital_Mantra

I used it in cliffhanger for springball I believe.

ianfrombristol

OK, is the trial room the one in Marida with expansions for energy, missile, supers and power bombs?  Because I am having major issues with this room, in fact it's proving to be a bit of a trial  :heheh:

No, the trial room is in Lower Norfair. You've stumbled upon the blue suit room.

You should have entered by zipping up from below. When you do, you'll have blue suit.

In case you don't know, blue suit will break speed boost blocks on contact. You lose blue suit when you use the run button and crouch. You have to walk when you have it, and if you want to morph, jump and midair morph.
