hello I'm new to this website but I have been working on a super metroid hack for a while I've only got a couple of rooms totaly completed as SMILE is hard to use. Also there will be some ASM inserted in the rom some made by others some made by me

Zhs2

This totally better get some screenshots and/or videos soon, bro, or it'll get a lock. Why do people never post topics unless they have content ready to post with it?

dark_samus

sorry I tried to put up some screen shots but I couldn't figure out how to do it could you help please

Quietus

Just out of curiosity, are you in any way connected the the (in)famous Dark Samus, already an old member here?

dark_samus

not at all just thought it sounded cool

Cadarot

I tried to hard, to lose it all, but in THE END, it doesn't even matter...

I can't figure out how to use "" these

I'd recommend Majhost, Imgur, tinypic, or a Dropbox if you know where to place the images. When you've got a link to your image, place it in between [img] tags (there should be a button to insert them automatically just above the regular posting window!) and there's your images!

EDIT: Example image placed in your post :D

Wowzers. Attack of the square rooms is back at it again I see. The suit pallete needs to be turn down, and much more slopes need to be added.

personitis

All the reds in the suit palette seem just a little too close to each other. Also, slopes make your rooms look natural and give a feel for terrain.

there are more slopes up above, the tunnel like thing was just suited with the square design... although I could put some slopes in "AIR X-Ray" in SMILE to make it look more natural if you guy's think that would be a good idea thanks for the advice. Dark_Samus

dark_samus

wow adding some slopes makes it look 100% better, I thought it needed something but I couldn't put my finger on it.

X-tradyte

Looking good with the slopes! I hope I can get a crack in playing it sometime :) Keep going!

Glad you like the work with the slopes it took a while to get an idea for what they should look like but after I started going I didn't even have to think about it, still working on some areas in the room that I didn't have enough time to mess with though. I may post a small demo soon look out for it and also DarkSamus someone asked me if I was in any way connected to you funny how I didn't think anyone else would use that user name and my first five minutes of being a member some asks me that

Zhs2

Double Dark Samus, all the way across the forum

Also, keep going with those slopes. They sure does make rooms look nice.

Well, You can tell us apart quite easily. I am above child board level for hacking, so thats one way... :) Hacking doesn't take long after you're in the mood, so just, Get a good hold of it.

Well, it depends on what it is you're hacking.  I created my topic for Rhizon over a year and a half ago, with almost no level design (most of my early work was enemy graphics), and shit, I still have very little done as far as levels.  If you're learning the game's code and doing ASM hacking, it takes a lot longer.

In my quest to dive into ASM and start hacking the programming for super metroid I've only finished the first Tileset in my graphical overhaul and I've been hacking Synergy for over a year on and off. Learning Assembly and Super Metroid's inner workings takes forever. I believe the thread has been dead for a good minute.

I've already learned how to do a lot as far as ASM but it took FOREVER to learn ASM, I couldn't even find anyone willing to help me to learn 'because it's to hard to teach noobs how to do ASM' stop whining and help people if you don't teach anyone how to do this stuff nobody will do it!!!

Funny, I could take my happy ass onto IRC and ask an assembly question and as long as it's not something too complicated it will get answered and probably explained by every knowledgeable and bored Super Metroid hacker chilling in the channel. Even then, there's some people, who if you catch online (Black_Falcon, Flamestar666, SadiztykFish, Kejardon, MathOnNapkins, DSO, DChronos, myself, Crashtour99, etc. etc.) will drop what they're doing half the time to make sure you get it.

I dare pose the obvious question: It's all very well to say that the ASM gurus here should teach the new people, so they can all learn its wonders, but how do you suppose THEY learned it? :<_<:

probably from Jathys and Kej. And all the other SMILE helpers, they coded SMILE, so they probably knew how to rework stuff with SM, so therefore stating, they were probably the first to know ASM, and to teach it.
