Dude, FUCKING IMAGE SIZE, was that really necessary?

Also people, keep shit in spoiler tags, I don't want to spoil it for people who are late for the party! :/

Scyzer

What's with people getting random percentages?? i tested that ASM quite thoroughly when i made it, and even after i did the final version for IM. so it's working fine for some people but not others?
due to the openness of this game i'd think there's something in the hack that uses a ram address i did, which only a few plays have come across. i can't think of any other explanation for it :S

Lunaria

It might not save it if you hard save? That could be one possible explanation. :/

Orel

That would explain it for my run, i never used any savestates.

Quietus

Was the stuff fixed after you found out about Super's differing totals?  (Missiles being 230, not 250)  I presume so, but just offering thoughts...

Lunaria

Actually, that's the reason sadi made the whole ASM in the first place quietus. :p

Orel

Question, since i've been hard saving this entire time, would certain items that i never picked up just magically disappear for some reason?  There have been a few places where i swear up and down there should have been an item but there wasn't. (had a chozo statue holding nothing and an item marker dot on the map, yet room was completely empty of secrets and items.)

Gonna go ahead and request an item map so i can check this.

Crashtour99

After another playthrough I'm pretty sure I found wave beam in a different place, so it could be that item progression and placement changes as you play.

Lunaria

Orel: No, it would not. It would just start counting towards % from last save from 0 rather from what you had before you loaded. :/
And no item map, item progression was done 100% before the release and I'm not giving out the item map. :/

Crash: some items can be found at more then one location.

Riffman81

Great hack Crys :^_^: Just completed it without finding any areas I would consider "perma-stuck". I also haven't discovered any faulty tiles in the game as others may have found... then again, I'm no expert Super Metroid player, and I don't do a lot of advanced tricks to plow my way through the game. Aside from the mini map errors, I see this as being pretty polished.

I should note that I used the save stations within the game rather then using save states. From what I've read this may effect final item collection results at the end. So not sure what percent I actually have. Going to play through this again, and take my good easy time tonight after work.

Are you sure you explored all of subterrane

I feel that I have with my current abilities.

I have found 2 paths that require powerbombs to break into, and a room at the top right of the map that has a grey door. I'm at a complete loss as to where the hell you're supposed to head to =/

I've gotta say I'm really puzzled by how many people are running into problems and errors. I went nuts coming for stuff when I test played this and didn't even FIND some of the things people are talking about. I can only assume a few things got changed from the last version I had played before the final release, which isn't surprising. But wow.. really, people are getting that stumped in areas?

I feel weird.. I mean I know I'm a fairly decent player but I didn't think I was that good compared to others, much less ones who know how to TAS and do other tricks. Reminds me of how my friend did playing a friend's hack that I've been testing out... I guess I'm going to have to go through Ice Metal soon and see if I run into these strange problems other people are reporting.
this didn't trigger for me.  he may be having the same issue.
and, it's not getting stumped.  i did the same thing 10-15 times in the right room and nothing kept happening.  i came back later after walking around the planet another once or twice, and the event properly triggered.  that's why that whole argument happened on like pages 2 and 3.  at that point i had been to the right room a bunch of times, but nothing happened and obviously i didn't know that and i had nowhere to go.

I wasn't referring solely to you. I was talking about everyone reporting problems and errors in general. Many of the things people have run into that causes semi/perma-stucks were not encountered by me when I went through originally, and I was deliberately looking for them up until the last day or so of my testing, when Crys said I didn't have to do that and should just finish the game looking for general problems.
I mean seriously, I even got to Ridley without Charge Beam or having beaten Draygon. I defeated Ridley using ONLY Missiles and Supers. I even got to friggin' Gold Torizo WITHOUT having found Charge Beam or having a whole lotta Supers (which caused me to panic and search for a backup savestate/hard save). I actually went for a large part of the game without a couple items cause I forgot where they were or I just didn't find them. Heck, I got Space Jump before the Gravity Suit by using Wall Jumps up that shaft with the Missile Tank that everyone is having trouble with. Oh, and I didn't ever get that, so if people have trouble with it, don't feel too badly. I managed to miss Screw Attack and about 20 missiles by the time I finished the game. :p
EDIT: Fixed spoiler tag. Oh lolz, the joy of having Tourettes and pushing more keys than necessary without even noticing it cause your head is too busy moving/looking in a direction other than the screen...

fix that spoiler!
yeah, i killed ridley the same way, no charge, etc.  in fact, i wandered into the end-game area without realizing it tonight and beat the game.  thank god i thought to make a savestate before going too far, or i would've been screwed.  i ended up beating the game with 2 health left.  it was fucking tense.

Scyzer

Hard saving... I never thought of that. I didn't think it would've cleared out the ram though :O
It can easily be fixed by using a different ram location though that isn't cleared by saving/loading routines

I lol'd that I didn't even see that the spoiler tag had failed when I posted it. Wow, what an oversight.
I actually found Ridley to be a lot of fun. What I did, was wedge myself into the little bit above the door and below the PB blocks and just used Smissiles until he finally hauled me up over the grating, then finished the battle up there. I was rather shocked it worked so well. Also, I found it ironic that I panicked upon fighting the GT without Charge Beam initially, cause when I finally DID fight it, I didn't use it. I had enough Supers that I could keep spamming him with them. That was when I learned that you could detonate the Super Missile he held in his hand. I never knew that before now, probably cause I never used them on him as a sole means of attack before.
That's one of the things I love about Ice Metal and testing in general. I start learning about stuff I didn't even know about Super Metroid... even after 14+ years!
you can detonate that?  wow, i have to try that tomorrow!  i ended up fighting ridley normally, and wow did i get the shit beaten out of me.  8 e-tanks and 4 reserve, and i think i ended up using some of the reserve tanks.
It's just that people are playing in ways the hack was not designed for.

There are quite many hacks that say they have exploration but really only focusing on bombing EVERYWHERE to find the way. That's simply not how Ice Metal works. Therefor, players will assume that the solution is stupid rather then something simple and logical. :/

Also, some players enjoy abusing all glitches in the game. I really don't care much for that, but it kinda pisses me off when they say they get perma stuck all the time due to doing it. :/

@sadi: Give me good RAM address to use, also keep in mind that it would be nice if the game worked with more then one save file. =)

Hiroshi Mishima

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've always found it annoying that some hacks put an emphasis on bombing everywhere because things are either too damn well hidden, have no signs or clues, or just lack imagination. I'd rather shoot all over the place and find something by accident (which is how I sometimes play in certain hacks) or simply notice/pick-up on the obvious hints that are there.

Ice Metal is wonderful in that most items are actually fairly obvious, although not so much in HOW to reach them; merely that there is something there. And while the exploration is key, you have hints or clues as to where you might be able to go. Making something stand out, for instance, or having a curious rock formation.

This is one of the things that helps make Ice Metal so awesome in my opinion, as well as the "true" exploration factor.  I think it's pretty unique with the sheer variety of ways to collect items, explore areas without excessive hardship, and level design that perfectly supports its openness.  Nothing is hidden so impossibly well that you have to look at a map to progress, it's really just a matter of going back to areas that you haven't been to in a while.  And every time you play it, it's different!  Truly one of the best hacks I've had the pleasure of playing.

I'm guessing this is the same issue I'm having. The one grey door I havent been in won't open because the only enemy in that room is the floaty ghost made of skulls.....Thats the only enemy I am running into in Subterrane, besides the boss I defeated and the two compound enemies in front of his door. =/ I'm wondering if there is an event somewhere that is supposed to change room states that has enemies so I can open that ddoor?

I assure you that all the semi stuck collision glitches i found were on accident with the exception of the one under the missile pack in deep ice. (that one i was actively trying to abuse out of frustration because i fail at shinesparking.)

After realizing that the X ray scope was capable of lying to me, i had to change how i find things by rubbing up against every wall in morph ball looking for hidden passages and laying down power bombs in every room.  You need to keep in mind that everyone that plays this game is going to play it differently, not all of us are always going to pick up on the subtle hints you've laid out.
