Hey, guys! As some of you (or none of you) may know, I'm new here.
So, I recently discovered that there are tools specifically meant for Super Metroid hacking. I'm not surprised, but I just want to know the best tools to use for the following:
-Designing assets (basically designing tiles, enemies, etc.)
-Hack creation (making the hack itself)
-Music (making the music for my hack)
-Any other useful tools (self-explanatory)
If someone can give me a comprehensive list of the best free tools to make SM hacks in 2024, I'd GREATLY appreciate it. Super Metroid is my most favorite Metroid game ever, and it'd be my dream to make a hack with it.

For level editing, I use SMART. (These links from the SMART Discord, courtesy of Amoeba and TestRunner.)

SMART has some graphics and palette editing capabilities.
For extracting graphics from Super Metroid I use SMILE RF (lookup Scyzer's Tank.)

This is a tutorial by Begrimed which explains how to use SMILE RF, as well as design principles:

For graphics I also use yychr. Get the version off of SMW Central because it has Mode 7 capabilities.

I highly recommend you join the Metconst Discord link provided on the main site. The folks there have been extremely helpful with me on my journey.

For music, most people seem to use mITroid (with OpenMPT).
You should also check out SMME to see if that suits you. I have a discord where I can answer any questions on how to use it.
SMART also has some music editing capabilities and is recommended if you prefer a low-level editing approach.
