I can't speak for the SNES Classic, but I had some trouble getting this to work on MiSTer, but I found a setting that worked...
The default setting for ROM type is "Auto", which wouldn't load the ROM. I had to manually set this to "LoROM" for it to work correctly.
Do not set it to "No Header" as it seems this trips the game's copy protection routines and you get the piracy warning screen.

jft

I tried a few utilities on the rom for S&Gs, and I found that padding the rom and fixing the checksum using ucon64 seemed to allow MiSTer to load it without any special setting, so maybe it applies to other systems/emulators having issues.

I have attached a "fix" IPS file if anyone wants to see if it solves their issues. This patch should be applied to an already patched rom file (not a vanilla SM rom).

Finished in 4:50 with 75% item completion and about the same with map. I think I've missed a big secret area although there's only few spots I haven't checked yet.

Also I was unable to find a way to reach charge beam. I've finished the game without it.

And I feel it's a bit stiff putting this in 'veteran' category. It's most certainly about 3 times less difficult than some other hacks in the same.

So, regarding the secret challenge:
Can we just not get Gravity Suit, or Space Jump, or High Jump boots? I just beat Draygon, have 40 Missiles, 5 Supers, and Grapple, and go to the next room, and can't get Space Jump because there's a 1 block gap I'd have to go through. So, I turn around, go back to his room, and I literally cannot exit because the overhang is too far out to wall jump past underwater, and trying to do it from the other side of the room both requires avoiding a broken wall cannon, and doesn't give nearly enough distance to reach the side of the overhang.
So far as I can tell, I'm softlocked, and even if I get out of here, I still don't have enough energy tanks to make it through any hot areas.

thumtac

Just finished playing the hack! I liked it a lot. Didn't end up finding plasma and had to look at someone else's playthrough to find out how to get charge beam.

The thing I'm most confused about is "intended" way to get into wrecked ship.
It seems like space jump is the logical requirement, but I think you need power bomb to get to draygon, which is in wrecked ship. I ended up using super missile hopping to get up there, but morph ball bombing also works and you can probably get up there via shinespark. Did I miss an alternative way to get up there/get space jump without power bomb?

Seeing as how I managed to get to and beat Draygon without anything but Missiles, Supers, and Grapple, you can definitely get to him without power bombs.

I'm still stuck in his room though.
It is possible to walljump out of there on the left side. Not sure if shooting to break spin and respin were required for that, but seemed to make it easier.

i finish the game but not at 100% and it seems to be an alternative ending.

i hope the creators will give us some advice  (and perhaps a complete map )

Thanks, though eventually I just plugged in a code to jump in midair. I could spend an hour there trying one jump, or I could move on with the hack.

Having finished this run, I'd say it's a good hack, and has some great mechanics and all, but some rooms felt needlessly huge, but sort of empty. Those probably look fine zoomed out in SMILE, but it feels like they're just empty space in-game that doesn't need to be there.

I made this account for this forum I barely visit just to ask one doubt. Hello to Metroid fans I guess.

Here's why I made it in a hurry: I've heard you mention "ballspark". How do you do it? I am a completionist nut and I have almost collected everything in Maridia. Even objects that were claimed to be "well-hidden" by other users on here. EXCEPT for this one E tank in Maridia. This really annoys me to no end. How do you get the E tank? How to do ballspark? To visualize what I'm saying: this part of a Youtube playthough is what I'm referring to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Av-gw8cTfBs&t=8728s

On an unrelated note, is SM: Redesign Axeil Edition worth it?

this part of a Youtube playthough

oh shit that's me lmao. ballspark requires spring ball. charge up a shinespark, duck into morph ball, let go of run, sit still and tap jump. from there you can control the direction with the d-pad.

it's worth experiencing at least once.

I can confirm that this patch worked for me. Would be nice to upload the patched rom for everyone to use :) any way to contact the creators?

Alas pre-patched ROM are not allowed here and is a recognized forum crime.

Mind to give some details ?
I have seen Samus being stuck into frenzy between two cramped slopes with no way out. If that's what you are refering to, well bad luck. If that's something more concerning, maybe I'll fix it but at this point, work on this hack has been concluded.

Are there advanced techniques for ballspark that I'm not aware of?  I have been trying to get to this specific e-tank, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to angle the ballspark to hit the right block, and I seem to be unable to get it to activate mid-jump, nor can I get the spark to shoot downward.

I'm new to ballspark, but I did figure out how to start it.

You don't need to ballspark that, you just need to use the speed booster in ball form.

Head to the far right side of the room, roll into a ball, and head left while holding Run and you'll go into Speed Booster mode. From there, keep spring ball jumping while moving left, and you can literally leap through the Speed Boost blocks at the top.

Might take a few tries, but it's not particularly hard.

Hi all, it seems to exist a special route without the morphing ball evolve.
(the guy dead in norfair is giving us the advice to not goes in tourian without this evolve) i think that the reason why we have 3 morphing ball spot
i'm currently doing it on my twitch channel. when i will have finshed it i will post here the video link

Ah, thanks for that.  Now I feel dumb.  I just came off of 100%'ing Dread, so I guess I've still got shinespark puzzles on the brain.

DonnyDonovan

I must say, I was kind of finding this sprawling and unfocused and wasn't sure what the hype was about, but once I finally figured out (with some hints) how to get charge beam, got some rewards in Norfair, and made my way to Maridia, this thing has really opened up and I get it now.  Outstanding.

bem

about charge beam :
be a morph ball in the second left room of the coridor where is the evolve, Xray doesnt help

There's a way to get to Draygon without Power Bombs, if you're able to find the vertical tube in Maridia.
Wrulfang

I just finished this.

Whoa, took me a looooooooooong time to find everything specially in crateria and norfair. I quite literally had to scan norfair twice because I somehow missed a thing and during the second scan it was like a room that was near the end of my scanning route.

the bubble foreground tiles that appear always on top even when you're x-raying are a bit infuriating because I was forced to hug everyone of them in case there was a secret there that I miss.

also dear lord I can't believe the missiles I had missing in crateria was behind fake foreground blocks that you can't xray though. Sure they're in an obiuous location but at that point I was just scanning everywhere and it just looked like solid tile fangs like in other elevators.

if it wasnt because I refused to fight ridley before actually finding the X-ray it would have been quite literally my last mayor item.

And that's it, thats all I can't complain about

the rest is a really good game. I like that most of the secrets are behing cracked tiles so everytime you saw them there was a high chance of finding something.

And that everything was a dot in the map. No crumble shaft bastard missile bullshit. I think the only dot that was 2 item was one with a mayor item and a missile behind the statue but I might be wrong.

I love that the X ray is accessible quite early, at least I found it quite early.

and now to more spoilery stuff
the tube near tourian in crateria, is the exit route if you do the secret challenge, right? I saw some crumble blocks on the escape sequence, in the room that would lead towards that exit (in case it was open during the scape for some reason, but I couldnt find a way in, specially with the timer ticking.
for the secret challenge itself, I can't even begin to think how it is even possible

As for those crumble blocks, that's a shine spark spot. Its a quick way out. the secret challenge has nothing to do with it.
