Bailey: The Legend of Narpa's Sword

A futuristic high fantasy hack where you play as Justin Bailey as she seeks the legendary Narpa's Sword (Plasma Beam) to destroy the evil Slaughterboss (aka Uber-hard Ridley that'll hopefully be programmed so only Plasma can hurt him.)

The power suit will be edited into pink and white lion armor with green hair, making it more like a high-tech Daishi from Power Rangers.

I'm imagining the temple tiles from Crateria and lower Norfair being used extensively.

Also planning on making the game more action-based, with the tougher enemies more prominent.

I'll be using Project Base instead of vanilla.

EDIT:

Most of the items will be replaced with magic-based versions.

Ex: The Power Beam is a Magic Missile, Missiles are now meteors or something.

The Ice Beam might be removed, and the Metroids (now Souleaters that collect energy for Slaughterboss) can only be destroyed with Narpa's Sword/ Plasma Beam.

EDIT 2:

Crateria is now a temple with an underground passages.
Green Brinstar is an underground forest.
Maridia is a water temple.
Norfair is a cave (bubbles will probably be removed.)
Lower Norfair is all temple that leads to Tourian. Rising acid happens more often, forcing players to move faster in the rooms.
Wrecked Ship is a torture chamber full of spikes.
Tourian is hell, and you fight Ridley instead of Mother Brain (I hope.)

Shouldn't that be Justine?  Either that or 'he' instead of 'she'. :^_^:

...Okay, Justine then :(

I wonder is making a waver beam is possible. A resprite of wave beam into the waver enemy. In other words, your wave beam now shoots a waver. I wonder if that would work. It would be quite funny to see that in a hack.

Lunaria

Alright, here is an quick idea for an ASM modification that I just got. Instead of having powerbombs selectable, in order to drop one the players has to charge up a shot with charge beam, morph, and then release. This would overwrite the clunky bomb flinging that is already in SM. :p

Quietus

That would overwrite the bomb spread, however.  Perhaps you could just do the opposite, and have players morph, then charge.  Or simply have them activated by a shoulder button, since those aren't used while morphed anyway.

The bomb spreads is pretty darn useless though! :p

With bomb spread, I think doing what AM2R does would be good, the ability to throw them all in a direction sounds pretty sweet, and I seen bomb spread used in some speed runs, the first red room in Brinstar springs to mind, it was used there to quickly descend.

The only issue I see with that is that rapid firing normal shots would need two button presses per shot. As the charging would start from one tap and the shot to cancel the charge and shoot from the second tap.

Your idea makes me think of the Genesis version of Batman and Robin solution to the auto-charging dilemma. In that game, your shots ("batarangs") automatically charge, pressing the fire button releases the shot at whatever level of charge it was at, and holding it would autofire uncharged shots. Most of the game was about crowd control, so the most effective strategy generally was to space out your charged shots with meaty melee attacks, and then clear away a large swath of "popcorn" enemies with a charge shot.

It's a pretty fun dynamic for a platform-action game, and perhaps something similar could work in a Metroid context. Granted, Metroid has never been a full-bore action game, but who's to say that couldn't work?

(What I'm saying here is that somebody should make a homebrew Metroid game for the Genesis and call it "Brinstar Heroes".)

(On the opposite end of the scale, somebody should make the Metroidian equivalent of Knytt (pacifist exploration).)

(Also, while I'm talking, why hasn't anybody made a hack with happy-fun Mega Man water physics?)

Okay, one more idea. A Tetris miniboss.

Somebody get SLC in here, STAT.

I want Mute City put into one of the race hacks.

Actually, I just want Mute City. Always.
