This seems like a dumb question, but I can't find any info on how to play ROM hacks on a Chromebook. Google isn't much help(which is shocking), and I hope someone here knows what to do.

Could you clarify what you mean by "play rom hacks"? Do you mean you can't patch roms or you don't have an emulator?

I mean how to play Super Metroid ROM hacks, since there isn't a guild for Chromebooks, that I could find. Probably should have said that first.

I'm guessing the issue you're having is that it uses a linux-based OS? I'm sure emulators, patching tools and anything else that work on linux will also work on your Chromebook.

While lots of people dislike ZSNES, unless you are speedrunning it's a pretty nice emulator and works on linux

Hope this works for you :^_^:

I've done a TON of research into this. I have all the resources you'll ever need to play SNES Romhacks, even on a locked-down system. both will need this patcher: http://wanderingcoder.net/projects/JPS/.
For a non-locked down chromebook, use this emulator:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/super-nintendo-emulator-s/ckpjobcmemfpfeaeolhhjkjdpfnkngnd?hl=en.
For a locked down chromebook, this one will due:
https://toadking.com/retroarch/snes9x-next.html

info on the patcher: http://forum.metroidconstruction.com/index.php?topic=3817.0

hope this helps!  :^_^:

Thank you, but I have another question. Do I use the .zip file, or the .smc file?

zip might work, but the SMC definitely will, so go with that. and if you are talking about patching, zip will not work. either way, go with the .smc

A ZIP is a file archive. You may be able to play games directly from a ZIP but you'll want the SMC contained within (the actual ROM) for applying patches among other things.

Thank you for the help. I'll now lock this topic, now.
