GUYS METROID PRIME 4 WAS ANNOUNCED FOR SWITCH!!!!!!!!!!1

Steel Sparkle

Yea i saw that. Im definitely gonna save money and get a switch for MP4

PonchGaming

New Metroid Prime and new Metroid 2D game? What year is it?

Steel Sparkle

That's not a new 2D metroid game. it's a reimagining of Metroid 2.

PonchGaming

It's still a new 2D game though, even if it's a re imagining.

samusfan

Now we know why AM2R was taken down so fast.

Quietus

We've known 'why' for a long time - because Nintendo don't want people using their stuff.

I'm kind of excited for Prime 4, though, like most games, I'll wait until much nearer the time of release, and check out some actual gamepley footage before offering my thoughts.

But what is there really left to answer in that storyline? Phaaze is obliterated along with all the magically-quantum-linked-phazon. Only the 100% ending scene of Prime 3 is a mystery. After the Other M backlash, I think Nintendo may be trying to cash in on the good-ish name of the Prime series. At least the producer is the same, though it seems like a lot of the "vision" of the originals came from Retro. And Other M's producer was involved with Super as well, so there's really no telling what will happen.

And I have this last contribution: THERE IS LITERALLY NO "METROID PRIME" LEFT IN THE GAME WORLD. Like the series as a whole, "Metroid Prime" is an artifact title.

Mayo-chan

It's gonna be a semi-reboot, kinda like Halo 4. Or at least I'd hope it'd be. I hope to see them make a much faster, more fluid take on the game. They're never going to replace how good Prime 1 was, but they can make something that'll age less badly.

As for Samus Returns, I'm kinda 'eh' on it. It doesn't seem as polished as the older Metroids in terms of fluidity of movement and animations, though that might shape up in the next couple of months. It looks like they took all the good stuff from Other M's style as well. Really the only thing I'm excited for it is that it exists, and it's coming in such a short time.

It's like it's 2002 all over again!

Digital_Mantra

the '4' in metroid prime 4 looks an awful lot like the killer instinct font. surely this means nintendo+rare collab. hype. fidget spinners.

squishy_ichigo

Gotta say, I'm more interested in M2 remake then MP4, when nothing in known about that whatsoever.

TBH, as much shit as it gets, M:OM had some interesting things about it, so if the good things about it are used in M:SR, I have no problems what so ever. The only parts of M:OM that I didn't care for were the shit story, the plot item shit, and the first person missile shooting where you couldn't move. Otherwise it felt pretty solid for the most part.

All the CQC moves shown off in the Trailer are 'unmetroidy' but I personally think they seem pcul, and could really add to the gameplay if done right.

fidget spinners.

Steel Sparkle

Yea nothing was really shown for MP4 and we got plenty of gameplay shown off for MSR but regardless im hyped for both. It's a shame they are on 2 different systems so im only gonna be able to nab 1 by saving up money. what would you all suggest i do? i was thinking of waiting till they showed off more for MP4 before making a choice on which to get.

Prime done in the Rare style (which I always thought a to be a little cartoony) would certainly be interesting. Though last I checked they are still owned by Microsoft. :( Too bad, I could really see myself collecting the 950 note bananas needed to unlock the Hyper Beam after acing K. Rool's Trivia and Minigame Gauntlet in Metroid Prime 4: Samus' Bad Suit Day.

Fully agree here.

I don't mind the 2.5D perspective and think that it rather suits the 2D games moving forward (blasphemy I'm not a true Metroid fan). Samus's physical attacks had been ignored for too long (minus all the grappling in Other M) and the map markers are very welcome additions in my book. Mitigating backtracking with warps is not as great, but I understand that a lot of people don't like it nor would it be entertaining in what was traditionally a more linear game. A lot of the enemy animations seem to be pretty good, so I would imagine that they'll go back and touch up Samus's unnatural, stiff-ish animations. I'm sure they're in some sort of polish phase being that we'll be getting this in just a few months.

Concerning Prime 4 (never thought I'd seriously type that), my initial reaction was congratulating Nintendo for doing what newcomers did for so long around here: "Hey guys, I've go this cool idea about a hack and I'm going to call it _____." So cool, we're getting another Prime. If that's where Nintendo wants to take future Metroids, I'm okay with this. Though, that's looking a bit far ahead. I'll hold out any other judgement until we get more information.

DSO

It's hype to see Metroid acknowledged, I'm hoping for a memorably atmospheric game with an OST that stands up to the quality of the first two Primes. (didn't hate Prime 3's, but I also hardly remember it)

I'd also like the entire adventure to take place on one interconnected planet again, instead of flying around everywhere with a gunship. The whole multiple planets thing made Prime 3 feel less like exploring vast worlds and more like exploring these self-contained 'stages'. Valhalla was the part of Prime 3 where it worked for me, but I much more enjoy Prime 1 and 2's focus on building a world with it's own unique ecology and remnants of civilization.

That's another thing where I think Metroid has gone off the rails. My biggest fear is that it's going to be a 'Samus vs. Sylux/other bounty hunters' plot featuring an ostensibly evil Galactic Federation. I don't like Samus exploring and interacting with 'modern civilizations' or bounty hunters. She should be off exploring the ruins of ancient, mystical civilizations instead.

So my dream plot for this game is basically opening with a mission log > contact lost with GF exploring ship after a report of space pirate attack > Samus sent to investigate > land on planet > introduce metroids, whether through the space pirates or through some local creature analogue found on the planet > solve the mystery of the ruins and the disappeared inhabitants that once lived there > Samus foils space pirate plan of turning said ruins into a stronghold > stuff self-destructs.

Glad AM2R got a C&D as it confirms remakes, just like 10 years in between them but hey.
Excited for MP4, I'll take whatever Nintendo gives me as long as it's not that trash from last year. Hunters was way better than that.

I have a feeling that Nintendo would have C&D'd AM2R regardless. They're pretty serious about their IP. At least they waited until the project had been completed before shutting it down!

A Dummy

My only hope for Metroid Prime 4, that it isn't about Phazon or The Prime Metroid Dark Samus or any of that stuff since that was all done and dealt with at the end of Prime 3.

Now what I think would be cool to see, is if some of the stuff from Metroid Prime: Hunters was expanded upon more, like seeing more of the rival bounty hunters. (Considering the Sylux hint at the end of Prime 3 this may very well be the case, at least partly.)
I wouldn't mind seeing the Quake-esque multiplayer from Hunters make a come back as well with 8 player support, but I wouldn't want that to be the main focus of the game.

Hmm, what about Metroid Confrontation, it's still up, right?

PonchGaming

Yes, they didn't DMCA Confrontation, only AM2R. So Confrontation and all the mods are still up.

It seems Original Level  designer of Super metroid, Fusion and zero mission are working on Metroid Samus Returns. Its going to be quality title.

I would like them to create much larger rooms and  especially more natural environment. Metroid prime 1  was in right direction but I really disliked Metroid prime 2 and Metroid 3 worlds.

And with no word of MHXX localization as of yet, these two things together give me reason to nab a Switch at a later date. Especially considering we're more than halfway through 2017 and if they had any reasonable progress to show off (they likely would have would they had progress), this will probably be a late 2018 release. I'm not opposed to being disproved though.

Zero One

Metroid Prime 4 will not be coming out in 2018, for which I am thankful. If it was really going to come out in a year, they'd have shown more at E3 than a title screen. I'd be a bit worried if we went from absolutely nothing to a new release a year later.
