It probably is... it's no big deal though. I'd rather use the (J) rom because there is more compatibility in patches. :D

Zhs2

So, I just checked the DATset entries for Super Nintendo (sauce for DAT-o-MATIC if you wish to check for yourself) and I absolutely don't believe in the existence of a (J) only rom of Super Metroid. Here's the appropriate entries from said DATset:

game (
name "Super Metroid (Europe) (En,Fr,De)"
description "Super Metroid (Europe) (En,Fr,De)"
rom ( name "Super Metroid (Europe) (En,Fr,De).sfc" size 3145728 crc AD2CBF9C md5 3D64F89499A403D17D530388854A7DA5 sha1 082ADAC9E38F86240F4378A6AA400DEE1716AE87 )
)

game (
name "Super Metroid (Japan, USA) (En,Ja)"
description "Super Metroid (Japan, USA) (En,Ja)"
rom ( name "Super Metroid (Japan, USA) (En,Ja).sfc" size 3145728 crc D63ED5F8 md5 21F3E98DF4780EE1C667B84E57D88675 sha1 DA957F0D63D14CB441D215462904C4FA8519C613 flags verified )
)

Feel free to compare checksums too if you feel like your rom is bad. The second entry is the most commonly patched/compared rom around these parts, just for your reference.

knuckles

Well when I test the (J) rom in smile (emulator: zsnes) it says the checksum is ok.
When I test the one that says (JU) it says bad.
if there is no (J) only rom, then how did I find one?

Zhs2

Your (JU) rom has been modified, either with or without your consent. This usually means that making copies of it to patch hacks to is going to offer unpredictable results that we likely can't help you with. Another thing you should know is that the checksum reported in ZSNES is arbitrary; any hack that fixes the checksum's calculation will also not report "bad ROM." If you really want to check against the authenticity of the ROM, check the SHA1 sum or MD5 instead.

As for your supposed (J) ROM, I can only say that it was named that way. There is no (J) ROM. It does not exist.

Ok... so zsnes isnt very good for checking the checksum?

Possible, it was from 4shared.... someone probably renamed it when they uploaded it.
Edit: I did some hex edits on my "(J)" rom and when I used the one by dso for smoother map scrolling, the map scrollers disappeared.( can't scroll anymore) I think both of them are corrupted... thats why my map can't scroll anymore. ( in the hex editor,  they were supposed to be 85 B1 but they weren't and I just pasted the hex edit anyway... :[ )

ok i just beat it again with all the upgrades 4 reserve tanks 180 super missiles 50 phazon missiles 50 power bombs and all 50 phazon particles and still just have 90% completion. i don't get it what could i be missing. i've been through the whole map countless times looking for the phazon particles and never ran into anything else. i'm completely stumped. any idea what i missed???? never mind i got it. it was one i got before but i guess i forgot to save and i never marked it on the map. its on the map now. so yeah i got 100% yay. i love this hack. by far one of the best.

Red Dragon and Necro thank you and congratulation.
My map is updated on Map Station
I think I got everything. If you see something wrong or missing please tell me.

Moon Man

I have the Phazon Beam, and when I walk through the blue lasers in front of the door in the room in the Valkyrie with the big map, my Phazon Beam is taken away. This is the room that would lock up your game if you used the X-Ray Scope in it. If I go back, I get the Phazon Beam back. I don't see a way to go around the blue lasers. This looks like a game-breaking glitch.

Zhs2

Or maybe this beam is limited only to not the final boss.

At the last savepoint [before the mother-brain lookalike room] there is a small tile of blue Phazon on the ground. Once I walk over ir I have the Phazon beam again. Don't know if it's a feature, but I lost the beam somehow and got it back that way. [I don't know what disables the beam.]

So... long time lurker but finally signed up.

This is the best hack I have ever played. I always liked Redesign the most, but i disliked the fact that you needed TASing for 100% completition. So this is my most favorite hack. Anyways, I have to say 4 things.

1) Are these rooms that show how many Phazon-Particles you collected still in that hack? [I never saw one, but I still haven't finished the game] (7 Valkyrie pieces and all key-Items so far.) Also: What do they do? Do they add up to your %?

2) The map messes up from time to time. I've read that it should be fixed, but it isn't fixed 100%. Most of the time the maps of each sector will reset the bottom part, and the warp-zone map also clears up. Additionally, you can't scroll the map. It is stuck in some sectors.

3) The middle one of the 3 big rooms in Tetrafuse has 2 map-squares that you can not reach.

4) I found a bug which cost me ~1 hour of gametime because I only save on savestations.
In the Phazon-Mines, in the Room where the Missile-container is, where you need to mockball through the 2 quick closing gates. When you go through this door, and spinjump into that blue crystal-enemy, the screen turns black, and the game crashes. I tried it with and without Space Jump & Screw Attack. It crashed everytime when I spinjumped into that enemy.

Btw, how do I hide images with spoiler-tags?
LOL I had the SAME thing happen to me, except I use savestates, so it wasn't that bad for me, but I still lost time and got angry when I spin-jumped into the creature.

germanmetroid

I collected every single phazon particle (thanks to danidub's Map) in the game and i got this:
Once you got all the phazon particles, go to any save station, Save, And you'll get the Phazon Beam, I dont know if everyone already knows this but I only wanted to just say it to the ones who doesnt know this :P
Law

I'm feeling like I've been going around and around in circles, simply because I can't find any phazon missiles.

I think I need to take a lie down, until I figure out where I should be.
(A time after beating Phantoon, 3 energy tanks, 30 super missiles, charge beam, spazer, morphball+springball)
A_red_monk_called_Key

the nav room in the ice area should tell you were to go next

advancedpillow

I just beat this. 9:39, 68%. I was very much lost in the beginning. But oh how awesome did the game get once you dive deeper and deeper into the planet. Well done, Red-M0nk3y! I loved it and all the custom everything was simply amazing.

The Kraid battle, I actually smiled and chuckled when that thing came out of the ground. The battle with Crocomire surprised me; I was totally unprepared for it. The Ridley battle was hectic, so fun. I actually stayed to fight him even though I had the blue-door exit error.

I thought I had an ips file that had that door fixed. Was this ever patched?

Overall, one of the best and most original hacks ever made.

Question: What was with the red map room with the 10 blinking dots? I couldn't figure out its significance or what those dots represented.
