The only thing that's hard about this game is the bomb timing. Everything else is cool!

Gotta face the facts and move on in life.

Hey thanks so much for this amazing and immersive Hack Drew! Redesign was my very first hack I've played years ago and the Axeii version is one of my favorites. I also have to move in life and will play the Final version as the last SM hack I play. What good way to end the SM hack world as I get to end it here.

Thanks for your creative and unforgettable hack again. Bon voyage:)

Oh sweet! It's been a while since I've played this (and since I've signed in, haha) - I think the last version I played was the 1.5 test version and that was incredible. I'm looking forward to trying this one out!

Drewseph

Thanks guys!  some new bugs might have been introduced with the changes, PM me what you find (if any)

most of the bugs so far are in the damn read-me.  I keep remembering new features I put in.

A Dummy

Whoa, wasn't expecting this to get updated one more time, and right when I've been itchin to play this hack again too. (Perfect timing!)
I'll be sure to give this a (re)playthrough in the near future, probably once I'm done with my current run of Super Zero Mission.

I'll add another thanks for making this hack, the original Redesign was the first major hack I played that really caught my attention with a lot of the new things it did over vanilla, as something that went beyond just having a different map layout and actually had some gameplay changes. (This was years before I even found Metroid Construction)

And with Axeil Edition, it made the overall experience feel so much more refined, especially the special areas like the Lost Cavern and Tourian being much more refined and enjoyable, as well as extra features I wouldn't have expected to see done in Super Metroid like the fast travel elevators and the hint system to point people in the right direction.
So thanks for making what is one of my favorite Super Metroid hacks to play.

Steel Sparkle

Didn't expect to see this get another update. Like the changes made :)

Drewseph

I dug up this section of my Alpha version of Redesign vs Axeil.  this is one of the few areas to remain the same'ish over the years.  though the evolution would be interesting to share.

Damn, even the 2004 version looked like it had an immense amount of polish, which is to say nothing about the even cleaner 2017 version. I always wondered what you'd deliver to us after Axeil, so I will admit I'm sad to hear about a retirement from hacking. But, Axeil and its predecessor Redesign are mammoth achievements in their own rights, so I suppose asking for more would be very greedy. :P If, by any chance, you make a return to hacking (or creating your own game), I'd definitely be interested to see what you create.

Now bomb jumping is alot easier now! Thank you very much!

I found an error after acquiring Speed Booster. When attempting to acquire X-Ray Scope (Left Room), an error appears on the screen.

Well, I'm derusting right now with another Axeil playthrough. After this I'm going to take another crack at 14.1% non-EPBC. Drew and I routed it before, but Elminster was the one who actually demonstrated that it was possible because the technical skill necessary to pull it off was beyond both of us at the time. I can skip the Wave Beam if I have Hi-Jump, but so far I've yet to be able to pull off either spark necessary to omit Hi-Jump. My personal lowest is still 14.8% non-EPBC.

Also, Early Brinstar Power Bombs.
Also, Early Speed Booster.
Also, Grapple Beam Skip.

All stuff I need to practice and at least attempt to learn how to do without tool assistance. I'm going to take another shot at it though.

Drew, is Early Bombs not a thing anymore? I did what I was supposed to do to get them, partial EPBC up until I get back to the ship, and on the way to the Bombs, I run into this:

Bomb Blocks that absolutely are not supposed to be there, and were not there in previous versions of the game. I'm playing 1.6 FINAL.

Until this gets addressed, I'm going to assume that Early Bombs is no longer possible, and that Wall-Jump Boots are a mandatory pickup to get them now. This will affect the non-EPBC low% route.

Drewseph

there is another way to get there.  think about other techniques in the epbc

...oh dear, I hope you're not intending us to damage boost up the wall-jump shaft...

Foxhound3857

I hope this isn't the way you were intending Early Bombs to be reachable, by damage boosting up the wall-jump shaft.

I don't think it's doable. Even with a crouch jump, you can't get enough height to clear the ledge above, even via damage boosting.

Drewseph

be a little more patient. then try a crouch jump

And you lowered the escape timer to 10 minutes. Now I have to bust my ass to save those animals. Goddamnit Drew...

...I forgive you.

Still can't damage boost up that shaft though. I can't gain any height from it, it simply throws me straight into the wall. I honestly don't know why you changed this, it was fine the way it was. =(

I need Elm to show me the way.

Although I am not 100% sure of the route as I have not done it myself, judging by your picture, it appears as if you aren't in the proper room for the early power bomb route, according to this video: https://youtu.be/QNTnjF-dKBI

I'm not trying for early Power Bombs, I'm trying for early Bombs. If you follow the EPBC route until you get to your ship, you can get Bombs without Wall Jump Boots or going to Brinstar first.

advancedpillow

Ah. Early bombs, not power bombs. I don't know if that was ever an intended thing.

It was, but it was somewhat borked in that it set EPBC flags all throughout the game that made progress impossible. I helped Drew fix it by playtesting a bunch of versions of 1.5 beta as he fixed each obstacle one by one, until we got to the point where it could be completed. Then Elminster did a non-EPBC low% run of 14.1%, the lowest possible collection rate we had theorized at the time. I'm pretty convinced the non-EPBC route can't be brought any lower than that.

If you look up a few posts, that picture where you see bomb blocks in the tunnel. Those weren't there in 1.5, that was how you got to early Bombs. But Drew put bomb blocks there in the final version of 1.6, so I'm trying to figure out how to reach them now. I'm only guessing that I'm supposed to damage boost up the shaft instead, but so far I've not been able to pull it off.

Drewseph

wait for the geemer to crawl down the right side of shaft and crouch jump boost up

Alright, I'll take another look at it.

Edit: Nope, run didn't record correctly for some reason. I'll have to do it again.

Foxhound3857

Finished a 100% playthrough of Axeil 1.6 Final, recorded the last part of it, Mother Brain and Escape with Animals Saved.

I like the timer being shortened to ten minutes, it's tight and leaves little margin for error, but doable. Probably the best escape of any hack aside from Hyper.

Hello everyone! I seem to be stuck right here in Redesign when trying to navigate this puzzle. How do I get across the gap of pit blocks?

Also, Drew, I'm loving Redesign, I haven't felt challenged like this with a Metroid game since when I was a kid playing Fusion and ZM. You've done great work on this!

I attached a .rar containing a screenshot of the pit blocks I'm referring to. Is there any easier way to attach images?
