There is a wall of PB blocks around the whole slope, but I made a small change. because I hate permastuck situations.

So I was playing through Axiel yesterday when I got to the split to where you can do the heat run, or go straight to Kraid. I decided to do the heat run since I had already done it twice in Redesign. I had a lot of trouble with the final stretch, so I tried to look up a video of someone doing the heat run in Axiel. When I couldn't find one, I took it upon myself to make my own and be the first to show how to do the Heat run. It's a bit mean in what you have to do during it to stay alive long enough, but I managed. If anyone is interested in seeing how to do it, my video is below.

I will say that I like how you have Ridley's theme playing in the background. It builds a lot of tension. I hope y'all find it useful if anyone wanted to try the now optional heat run.

Nice run.   Can it be done without getting the e-tank?   Or is that required?

MetroidNerd#9001

I tried it a number of times without the energy tank, but all failed. I'm sure it's possible, but it would require more precision than I could pull off. To put things in perspective, That took me over an hour to get, (Including before and after I started going for the energy tank) and the run in the video was the first time I got the energy tank.

Quietus

It is only required if you want to go straight there when you can. Alternatively, you can go and fight Kraid, grab the Varia suit, then take all the time in the world in the heated rooms.

Scooterboot9697

There is also a 3rd E-Tank you can get before the heat run. I can't remember where it is, but it removes the requirement of needing to grab the Norfair E-Tank in the heat run.

MetroidNerd#9001

I checked the map, I couldn't find a third energy tank that didn't require later items. There may be one, but it is possible only starting with two. I know that you CAN beat Kraid and get the Varia suit, but getting Ice beam then Varia makes Kraid a lot easier. It's probably faster if you can get it on your first try. I also just find it interesting to take alternate routes.

Drewseph

you can only do a 2 tank run in EPBC, I scripted additional enemies in rooms which you kill for large energy.

IIRC, I believe it's possible to get four tanks before the optional Hell Run. Two of those tanks you're not meant to get that early, namely the one in Crateria that requires you to shoot a super missile switch, and the one in Brinstar that is at the top of an underwater shaft, but both of these are attainable with IBJ and some patience. Grabbing that tank in the Hell Run would bring the count to five.

If I'm able to, I will try to make a video showcasing the two early tanks you can get.

Edit: Okay, here's the first early E-Tank. Hope to God this recorded correctly.

Normally this E-Tank requires Hi-Jump, but with IBJ and SWJ (Single Wall-Jump), it's attainable immediately after you get Supers.

Inb4 Drewseph says he needs to fix that E-Tank.  :heheh:

Drewseph

Why would I fix that? it took skill to get it, gotta have a reward! nice finds!

Just messing with you, haha. I figured that tank was one you'd intended players to get later and not so early.

I'll try to record the other one tomorrow; it's a lot more annoying to get.

Foxhound3857

Alright, here's the second one you can get.

Yeah, underwater IBJ. This one sucks, plain and simple. But it's there if you really want it.

With the other E-tank from earlier and the two you'd normally get on the way to Norfair, that should put you at four for the Hell Run. Five if you grab the one in the morph ball tunnel room during the run.

DonnyDonovan

With that many it's hardly "hell" at all, although putting yourself in that position was.  :)

MetroidNerd#9001

I didn't even know IBJing was possible in Axiel. Though it is probably still really tough. I thought it was "fixed" between Redesign and Axiel considering all the other aversions to sequence breaking present in Axiel. Though I am surprised how much conversation has been sparked by me putting up my video.  Maybe I could do that with another thing I found in Hyper...

Foxhound3857

The only thing I haven't been able to do thus far is skip Wall-Jump Boots in low%. It requires a rather nasty damage boost in the final version of Axeil to reach Bombs, something I have been unable to pull off to date.

I was hoping Elminster would come back at some point and see if he could do a demonstration, but alas, the pears need him.

LexyChan

I'm not really familiar with Axeil but did drew remove GGG? But I think that gate with the underwater ibj is not glitchable regardless of "doable" or not in axeil, he blocked of the top part.

Foxhound3857

Another video coming soon, I've discovered a THIRD E-Tank that can be obtained early with the help of IBJ.

Foxhound3857

Early E-Tank #3:

A bit harder to get than the first early tank, but available immediately after you get Supers.

MetroidNerd#9001

You should make a video of you going through the heat run with all of those energy tanks in hand just to show how trivial it makes it.

DonnyDonovan

The underwater one looks like the most annoying by far.   But yeah, with five (or 6) it certainly wouldn't be a stressful heat run.

I'm going to. I actually just thought of that a few minutes ago. I just need to practice it a bit before I record it.

Foxhound3857

Okay, here's the "Hell" run with all the extra E-Tanks:

The run itself was actually kind of sloppy, but I wanted to showcase just how much room for error and poor play there is with all the extra energy at your disposal.

Drewseph

Small update based on bugs seen in a recent live play on youtube:

- Fixed a scroll bug in the big room before Kraid
- Fixed issue with save station asking to save on load game
- Fixed a bug that can cause screen glitches when getting hit by an enemy at fast speeds.
- Screw Attack lock was impossible if switches were on opposite sides, fixed how switches add to timers.

Drew, why did you make the escape so tight. 06:45 is not an easy escape time. Why punish someone for trying to beat the game in under three hours game time? Could you change it to something more doable like 7:00-7:30? That might be a lot but it'd still help a ton.
Also, is green gate glitch possible in this?

Drewseph

Looks like the code checks game time, if you are under 3hr, I kinda assumed you were speed running and or an advanced player, so I made the challenge of a lower escape time. normal escape time is 10min.  I honestly completely forgot about this code since no one has really tried to speed run it, and so I never knew how it affected gameplay.

Yes GGG is possible in any metroid game. unless I put in code checks, which I think there are 2 rooms. maridia sandfall pit with the BC. and the Etank in water in brinstar.
