Dude, that vid is laggy like all hell. What did you do to it to make it record with such a horrible framerate? :cry:

Even so, that environment is pretty bubbly. Words cannot express how well you've pulled off the aesthetics in that area. Thumbs up, dude.

That ghost door glitch is because Phantoon's AI changes the level design for the fight, then the palette after the fight. The door GFX for that are actually in his tileset IIRC.

Sweet. Now that you mention it, there is a extra door in the tileset. Now atleast I know what it does. I might change it then, make it more ghostly. Thx Sad.

That got me curious so I went and looked...

While the door gfx aren't in his tileset, there IS an extra door drawn from the CRE in his tiletable.  Makes me wonder if the AI uses whatever tiles are placed in the tiletable there or if it's doing something different.  Definitely something to tinker around with though.

Well, from what I've ripped apart of Phantoon's AI (which is a large amount), he uses the level data for the most part of the room. When he appears though, his tilesheet kicks in, and the 2x4 tiles on the left side change to reflect the new tiles (this is the only part of the map that changes, so you can edit the room normally). IIRC, it uses the tiles drawn in the table, not from the tilesheet.

The only thing that would really stop anyone from completely editing his room is that his AI also changes the palette of the room (gradients) when he dies. I already fixed that, but I can't remember how... =S And I haven't got any of his AI doc'd. I might look into it again later if anyone bothers with editing him too much (you'd only need it if you completely changed his tilesheet and room)
While his AI runs, the layer2 is where his graphics appear (which is why he is in the tilesheet and not the rom as a sprite), though the fireballs are sprites.

So, I made another map.. I would like to note that ceres' exterior doesn't actually lead directly to the gold pyramid, you have to go through brinstar first, just havent made that map yet. The hearts are transitional areas and the 0's are rooms I haven't attached yet. This is how I can keep track, ya know. Also, The space pirate HQ is connected to the moon, if you can't tell, it's supposed to be the same building design, it's just two in different areas, you enter into it via elevators.

(It's obviously very far from done. It's just supposed to give you an idea of how my stuff is linked when you watch my vids)

I have the utmost respect for you as an aesthetics designer - your technological area was beautiful. This has been said, I'm sure, but it must be again. Also, I am a fan of the graphics you designed for the Missiles, Super Missiles, etc. on the top of the screen. Very nice. Keep it up, dude

Thanks Draconis. I actually feel aesthetics are my weak point, so that's an area I'm always trying to improve in.

Also here's a newer version of my map. I used pretty much every room in the game, so I can't really do much more, or I would. I'm considering doing like that Phazon hack did and use the spare rooms as teleportation areas. Going form the very top to the very bottom just takes too much time anyway. Now since I got all this done I can focus on designing rooms again. Yay!

Haha, for the Golden Pyramid, I'd half-expect it, too.

There is no release date as of yet. I might have it done in 6 months though.

The animated tiles is a hex code. DChronos gave it to me and I didnt write it down. He has a guide floating around somewhere about them.

I'd love to make ZM pirates chase you, but I just don't know how to do something like that.

Great Matrixy room. The only thing that sticks out to me that I dislike is how the WS tiles are dull and other tiles are bright and shiny. Kinda clashes IMO. But still, awesome room. =)

The only animated tiles I use is the water and lava one's. For the rest I use regular FX1 and layer manipulation. It's just illusions.

I'm assuming you mean the BG vs the FG tiles? I personally like it that way, it gives it more contrast. It's all the same color, so they need to be separated somehow.

You got me nervous now. I don't want people to anticipate my hack because I don't want to disappoint anybody. It's really not that good, it's just abit different, that's all. This hack lacks puzzle so far, I need to go back and add alot more, it's sorta boring in that department.

No. FG tiles vs FG tiles. The recolored WS tiles look really solid in color (gray) while other certain tiles are shiny and stand out in the darker atmosphere. Just clarifying, provided you get my words now. ;D

If nobady anticipated it, almost nobody would play it. It is a good thing, and not wanting to disappoint is a good thing too, because that will obviously make you try your best. And besides, good exploration itself can be the best puzzle.

Amen to that. I'm trying to find a balance between it being open yet restrictive enough that you'll eventually end up going the right way regardless. Easier said then done. There's also an optional secret item you can obtain but it's only in a certain state so you have to go through hell to get it.

Wow. I cannot believe you posted that video back in March and this is the first time I've seen it. I have to say the hack is still looking very impressive. I did find the liquid "cut-off" kind of odd in the mechanical area where you dropped beneath the goo and were still being damaged. (Lava obviously, it just looked odd.)

And I have to say despite the small variety used of the Maridian tiles it still looked great with all the holes in the BG with liquid overflowing and sadfishes swimming in and out of them. Very, very cool stuff going on here. Hopefully I won't miss another update again.
