Conradulations grimlock, you have achieved snarf level.
Honestly I think that's the best metroid 1 room I have ever seen.

Quietus

I love the small, stark contrast supplied by what I presume is the orange light.  It reminds me of Cloud's room from a while back. :^_^:

It does look similar to cloud's room,  nice observation! I remember someone here saying that nestroid can't look as good as the other metroid games! ^_^

That was probably true before Snarfblam introduced rom expansion capabilities and of course all the useful features of Editroid.  It really is a fine tuned editor, even better than a lot of the 3D FPS game editors that I've used in the past.

My first RotW in ages, let's see how it fairs in this week. This is just 4 scrolls of my entire 35 scroll room, but make no mistake this is one full room of it. I have split it up into 8 rooms amongst the 35 scrolls, and this is the first part.

Good luck all, and it seems like a battle of the norfairs :P

I'm not so sure about the lava in the upper windows, but I love the rest of that room.  Great work. :^_^:

Grimlock

I like the coarse texture of the tiles in your lava room.  The make up of tiles is actually quite similar to the tiles I made for my M1 hack.  Your tiles have a greater depth of detail though, as far as the distance that they extend past the edge (besides the fact that it's SM).  I depleted all the available memory for Norfair but had I not I can see how I would be able to push this style of room making further in M1.

personitis

Ho-ly shit. Some serious goodies are being shown off these week. :bounce:

I would enter myself, but my tileset is rather empty for the time being.

Grimlock

I changed out my screenshot to a higher resolution, it was hard to see the details and for some reason it got a bit blurry, I think photobucket increased the jpeg compression, not sure, this time its a .PNG.

Alisa Orlova

Hello my little Fudge! Not a pleasant user with her cold blue junk here again! As i said before, i find it interesting to listen a new reviews.  Ok, ok, it's my last room with this tile set for this competition.

Navigation in the room is not much more difficult than in standard 7D16D room. I made a video to demonstrate the bottom part of the room. "Layer 2 scrolling is not a 0"
P.s.  As far as my English is bad on a scale of ten? Zero it's a "randomly crap on face". Ten it's a "native speaker". I'm pretty sure it's not even five.

Hey Alisa, I remember reading you mentioning how to remove 'x-ray porn' once, what were you referring to? If there's a trick for it, I'd like to know, I'm heavy on layer2 manipulation, and that has always caused me issues.

You shouldn't worry about it.  Almost everything you say is easily understood, and 'native' speakers are not the best thing to compare yourself to, since most of them make plenty of mistakes too.  If I had £1 for every time I saw / heard the use of 'could of', 'would of', or 'should of' - despite the fact that none of them exist! - I'd be a rich man. :^_^:

Or the misuse of "there", "their" and "they're" or even "your" and "you're".  Basically, English people can't speak English, so I wouldn't worry too much. If someone doesn't understand they can just ask :^_^:

x-ray porn' is when you have more than one version of the Grapple Block tiles. Under the influence of x-rays they all look the same. But you can fool the x-ray! Go in a HEX editor and find $8D2F4 address and change 6A to 66. After that, the x-ray will ignore Grapple Blocks, but they will still work. I don't know who first found it, but I learned it from JAM!

Hmm.. might have to re-word that and add it to the hex tweaks page sometime then. Thanks.

Since we're on the subject, it reminded me of a silly, old joke:

Hammer/Worldcraft is nothing to brag about! ;] by the way, your room is incredible.

Guess I'll add to it then, here is something I whipped up awhile back. It plays way better than it looks.

& now that I posted that I noticed a ton of tiling errors. Alas, my love for Super Samus must not be enough.

Hmm, that's odd, 8 entries yet 7 people to choose from... I wonder who's missing....
EDIT: ok, looks good now...(fixed)

Cloud14, because his room was a complete joke made with Wordpress, I think. Lol. Anyways, I'm not voting this week. Too many sexy rooms to choose from. And I can't vote myself so, yeah.

CrAzY

Are "contestants" not allowed to vote? Or am I misunderstanding Gohan's post?

Anyone can vote, I'm just choosing not to, that's all.

Grimlock

If the voting continues as is we're all going to get our butts kicked by a word document lol.

I knew it would be tough to compete with SM but I hadn't considered the untethered editing power of ASCII!!!

Quote58

It's between Grimlock and Flamingcobra for me this week, they're both really good so it's a tough decision.
I'll edit this post with reviews and a decision later.

It's judgment day!
Nice work as usual, but I preferred the old palette better (with the light coming from underneath).

flawless victory, except for the fact I'm secretly humorless. you are thus un-victorious. (YOULOSEGOODDAYSIR.GIF)

My favorite part of this room is the background. Fusion was a darn nice looking game.

It's big... and big. Yeah, it's big. (Next time you submit a room of this size, don't double the size of the image, okay? Good.)

I'm getting massive Street Fighter 2010 vibes here, which is good since I consider that game to be one of the pinnacles of NES graphical design. The orange part at the top seals the deal. Also, I'm guessing that the top of this room is where one is supposed to acquire the high jump boots (or wall jump?)

I feel like the the "lava" in all those windows in the top left corner should be the same elevation. Besides that point, it's a very solid effort overall.

You've been doing really good work with this tileset, but everything about the lower left portion of the room confuses me, even after watching the video. I assume that there is some devious puzzle to be solved there.

This looks like something straight out of Legacy or Limit, or one of those old, hyper-vanilla hacks. Neat, but definitely not the kind of eye candy this contest favors.
Grimlock loses .5 points for the blurry shot, but still wins by a considerable margin because I like my 8 bits.
