I added a tileset in tlp (tile layer pro) and this happened when i checked it with smile... I dont know how to upload pictures here so just download the attachment... ( the graphics of a room became jumbled)
How do I fix this... or more importantly how do I add a tileset to super metroid properly?
Edit: I've messed around with tlp and smile's graphic editor for hours and could not figure this out!
I can't even start my hack if I don't have the proper tileset... I really need help :!:

I already mentioned in your other thread that attachments are generally frowned upon here, and also mentioned how to get your images on here.

To spell it out:

Click this
Sign up with one of them.
Once you've uploaded your pics there, copy the link, then create your reply here, and type the following:
[img]   [/img]
placing the link you are given for your picture between the two.

As for adding a tileset, you need to export the tileset you want to use (found under Tools > Graphics Editor in SMILE), and then open both that and your new tileset in TLP.  You then drag and drop the new tiles into the one you exported with SMILE.  Save it, and then import it back into your hack with SMILE (again, through the Graphics Editor).  Unless you replace your tiles like for like (i.e. a floor tile for a floor tile), it will be normal for your level to look a mess.  Not garbles, like your picture, but just randomly placed.

Your garbled graphics above look like you've tried to import too much, and have overwritten the next load of graphics (or whatever) in line.  You'll likely need to look at repointing your graphics to avoid it.  For a solution to repointing graphics, check the Collaboration thread (as has been mentioned to you elsewhere).

Thanks for the good answer... :yay: I feel like such a  :confus: idiot/noob here.. but I'm trying my hardest to understand all of this stuff. :study:
( this post can be locked now...)

Um, just checked that pic. That's of ceres. Don't mess with ceres gfx. at least not when you're just starting out.
Idk why Quietus is saying you have to drag and drop every peice, my tilesets don't overwrite anything, so you should be able to import them directly. In fact almost all tilesets you find here you can do that with. Depending on the tileset, I also included tile tables, so for those you'd probably want to repoint the tiletables.
So, ya.

I know theres a patch for repointing but when I applied it to rom smile doesnt read it anymore....  and when I "import them directly" I still get that garbled stuff.
I'm not trying to edit ceres tileset... ( I don't know how to switch it )

I was thinking of picking what you wanted, rather than importing the whole.

Ah, I see, well I had assumed he meant he just wanted the fusion tileset as is. if he were to mix tiles, he'd have to also deal with palettes.

Knuckles, don't use a ceres room. that's the ceres shaft, use a room from criteria or brinstar or something.
Ceres is complicated, so it's best to leave it alone.
Don't worry about repointing right now then. Just don't import the tiletable.
Go to 793aa, or any of those kinds of rooms. Then go to the gfx editor. Go to gfx, scenery, import. Import the tileset of your choice. Now do the same with the palette. Now it will look totally messed up but the gfx will be there. So then you need to make your own tiletables. Do so by dragging the peices from the tileset on the right to the squares on the left to make your tiles. Just make sure to NOT go over any of the squares with the X's in them. That's where repointing would come in, so don't worry about it.

I'd make a vid to explain things like that, but there are plenty out there already.

Ok... that made more sense..
For samus's ship at the beginning I guess I'll have to make a hidden room in crateria (main deck) or something
and the ceres thing kinda happened on accident. :/
I know this has nothing to do with what I asked before but... Why are (almost) all patches for sm (ju)  or sm headered roms? I tried to put some patches from the patches area and it broke my sm (J) rom..  ( It was the fusion ship and fusion ball patch by crys )
edit: tried it the way you said shadow and the tiles arent the right color. ( I imported palette and it does nothing.)
Sure, the tiles are there but they look like... like... nes tiles    :<_<: not quite what i wanted...
I feel like giving up...  :>_>:

Edit: Sounds like quietus was (partially) wrong huh? :eyeroll:

Attachments aren't frowned upon. Image attachments are specifically disallowed via the forum software, but that's about it. However, Quietus' advice on obtaining an image hosting service is valid.

Right, about the palette, i was going to explain but I was lazy and hoped you figure it out.
Once you import the palette, you need to click the check box under the palette line that says 'constantly save and update map'. Then click on any colour in any palette line. Then go to any square in the tiletables and click save to rom. That should do it.

Ok it came out alot better this time... but look :!::
some are still garbled..

Ah, OK.  I just recall an age back when somebody went through, and cleared out all attachments. :^_^:

James cleared out all the images because of some reason or another. Couldn't tell you why. It definitely wasn't a space issue...

Crashtour99

IIRC the reason given at the time was bandwidth.
