Thanks Metty25k for lending me your old title screen graphics.
Which one is it?!

Anyway, tbh the whole thing looks like it needs work.
First up: the "III" behind the "Metroid text. The top and the bottom of each are misaligned by a pixel. It's not a huge difference but it's noticable enough even at that size, let alone playing in fullscreen. In addition, the III being cut off by the text looks incredibad. It shouldn't be too much work to connect the top and bottom together, and that way you'd also notice the tiles don't line up and be able to fix those up to.

Well then if you have a better metroid font I could use please show it to me.
Also see what I highlighted, I tried that filling in the color with roman numeral between the text.
It just ended up in bad distorted mess.
That roman numeral number came from rtype 3, wasn't easy to make it work.
You see that logo in my signature, that is what I would love to use for the title screen, but the image details is too complicated for the game.

For the time being that will be on the back burner, trying to fix up other issues.

@Physix Your custom boss sprite, looks like a mecha chozo statue, looks good man. :)

I would use the metroid 2 roman numeral font from the game, but I don't know how make roman numeral 3 out of it. >_>

the ramp is not structured the same. Hence the ugly dark colour in the front window.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well it is your ship gfx, I've been thinking about plucking it out for awhile.
The ship window tile in the middle won't show up right but it shows up fine in yychr so I just don't know whats wrong.  :stern:

About the ground tile color and the ramp, the color of it will stay, the ramp is the original from the game.
I don't plan on bothering the landing site till the very end, appreciate the critique.
...like I said, the palette ramp for this ship graphics replacement is not the same as the one for the vanilla ship. If you want it to look good you'll need to edit the palette for it in smile.

Dark-SA-X

I already did that I followed your advice from when I spoke to you in irc and it still didn't work.
I found something else that I'll use for the ship.

Physix

The original was gigantic, on par with Torizo. For a nimble assassin, that simply didn't work out. On top of that, it was extremely difficult to tell apart all of the details. I had no idea whether I was looking at the hand or at the legs or whatever, so I cleared it all up. And I made it dark as fuck

Dark-SA-X

Just a quick video of my edited kraid boss, this is what I have in mind for a hard mode or hard type.
The room isn't finished yet, the color of his skin is not done "frustrating as hell" nor are any of the area's.
Excuse the mess you will see in the video as I am still editing stuff and it will still be a long time before its done.

Quietus

If he has that much health, making for a tedious fight, you should revert to his claws being destroyed with a single shot. It seems like refills are likely to be required, and it'd be a real troll if players can't refill easily.

Smiley

Just a shitton of HP makes a boss fight unnecessarily long, frustrating and boring. Not hard. (And most importantly not fun.)

Easy boss fights like the original game fail even more harder, this is why I didn't like some of super metroid.
If you know how kraid works, know how he fights, it won't take long for him to die.
Only problem is, he has abit more stamina and strength in this hack I am developing.
Once I'm done editing him and the room, I'll make sure you won't have access to the charge beam as seen in the video.
Unless you beat kraid then you will have access to it once you find it somewhere in kraids area.

Its either you die or he dies in a long stale mate fight.

personitis

To anyone thinking about raising a boss' health to high numbers without changing any other aspects of the fight, I suggest they go play the original Sigma Boss Rush (not ++) and fight Phantoon. Smiley hit the nail on the head with describing such boss fights. Also of note should be the lost interaction with Charge Beam (since it seems you'll be disallowing access to it until after) where hitting Kraid's head will freeze his hand for a few "rounds."

Maybe not troll, but definitely a huge turn off. Only excuse being the hack is marketed as "extremely difficult and tedious."

In the end, we aren't the author. So if you feel a gigantic damage sink is the best way to raise Kraid's difficulty, then so be it.

MetroidMst

Just from checking the timeline, that Kraid fight is over 10 minutes long. If there is one thing that people should have taken away from Axeil, it's that tedium is about the worst thing to do for your hack. No matter how much extra fluff you put in, tedium wears a player a down and the overall hack like nothing else can.

Thats why I want it this way, besides that with the weapons in sm it won't be as bad as you think.
Thank you for the advice but it'll stay as is, while I adjust it.

Aran;Jaeger

Kraid fights with Kraid having a mass of health, Samus dealing only very little damage to him and Kraid doing heaps of damage to Samus is one of the most uncreative and most re-repeated "ideas"/concepts and has been used for many many hacks and by everyone´s dog´s pet already. The idea is almost older than the universe. Good job figuring out this ingeniously brilliant way to excitify a boss fight in a unique way.
Same idea is old for any other boss like Draygon or Phantoon or even just some enemy, and yes I´m exaggerating, but you get the idea. Knowing almost every Super Metroid hack in (current) existence, I´m am sure there still are dozens of new clever ways to make jaw-droppingly fascinating boss fights.
On another note though, I like Metaquarius´ music in the room behind Kraid a lot, and can only approve of hacks using it.

That time SA-X knew Samus was part Metroid.

Digital_Mantra

I think the Kraid fight is well designed, fun and rarely utilized. On low% challenges for certain hacks, sometimes I'm on kraid 5-15 minutes fighting and farming all at once, it feels amazing when he finally goes down.
I agree tanked boss fights are a no-no for hacks, but Kraids 2 screens tall and provides a dynamic battle when you're 1 hit away from death. His fight is one that should last longer.

FPzero

Kraid's fight is definitely my favorite fight in Super Metroid but he goes down way too fast in vanilla. Hacks that increase his health are ok in my book as long as it's all reasonable. I've played hacks where you have no platforms to fight on or where all his stuff does 1 e-tank of damage or where you don't have Charge Beam and have to farm missiles from his claws and those fights are not fun. Game design is all about learning what proper balance makes the most fun for people. And never forget that what you find easy in your hack is probably more difficult to others because they don't have creator's knowledge like you do.

Don't worry about it as you saw in my upload, you'll have enough items to currently take him on.
The thing is the player will need to find the items spread out in crateria.
I'm trying to get kraid to take damages from a normal beam shot just like the torizo.
I got phantoon working, he went down after the 20 minutes.
So its just a matter of knowing how the boss fights from the original, outlasting the newer versions or die with a automatic return to the title screen.
"Hopefully players will find the save rooms"

If you remember Metroid 1 boss fights, thats one of the features I am trying to restore
Old school skills meets the newer weapons in SM and with begrimed weapon patch it'll be interesting alright.

Any artist ever try mocking up an X infected Mother Brain or Metroid?

Until samus killed all metroids on SR388..
I don't think it's ever mentioned that X can actually infect metroids, but it's an interesting concept nonetheless.

No they can't just how metroids are created and the acidic area's they survive in, the x parasite would be raped by metroids.
You can check the metroid manga, when one of the chozo's mentioned that and are sure they would kill the x over time.

As for the video, yes as always things are a mess, however some of it is nearing completion.
The boss you will see is simple, the only thing left is to give it a little speed boost to keep you from being in one spot or 2.
I'm happy of how the way it turned out, though it took a long time to fix up right. >_>

As the X adapt by absorbing, enough adaption of different creatures would allow for at least one X strain to consume a metroid.

It's like a lesson in evolution.

Well if thats some sort of analogy to Aliens vs Predator and how the alien parsite infected a predator to make the first predalien..
I really don't think that will happen, even if it did, it wouldn't last long enough with its main enemie gunning for it.
