Black Falcon

I always like your level design, MetroidMst!
The transparency truly is a cool feature!
Both pics look great, but I think there's too much red/orange in the first pic.

Super Metroid Grand Prix 2 Teaser

@DSO: That looks like sheer madness to me.

MetroidMst

I can't wait for that. The first one was fun, this looks better.

Daltone

Thanks, this one should be better, Ive got 9 different ways to get from start to finish.

So I made this:

metroid.avi
It's a work in progress, and it's gonna be a smallish hack (you just saw half of Brinstar, which is 90% complete). Overall, 10% done.

Did I do good?

Edit: Also, no sound. CamStudio won't record sound on my comp. But you know what Metroid sounds like. So yeah.

squishy_ichigo

That looks badass (for M1 at least, ;D)
Those tiles are great, and I liked the little water thing you did in that one room. (I assume its water)

personitis

That's pretty awesome snarfblam. Actually gives me ideas for a Metroid Hack. Btw, how'd you rip change the graphics? Or better questions, how'd you rip them?

DSO

Ice Missile Beta Version

Currently the missiles are useless when you turn ice beam off, so that needs fixed. But they work well when ice is on!

personitis

OMG DSO, I'm so gonna need these for my next hack. Which'll be whenever I get my others done... <_< >_>

The tiles are from Blaster Master and Batman. I'd love to draw my own, but the result is never close to satisfying. I used screen grabs, put the tiles in photoshop, saved them as paletted bitmaps, and imported them into TLP. This actually helps get the palette colors in the right order. From there it's just the structure editor in Editroid. It's surprisingly easy to increase the number of patterns Metroid loads with the "Pattern Source Editor" in Editroid, so you can have more variety than the original game. If there's interest, I'd be glad to throw together a how-to. Or maybe a patch with an already-expanded pattern table would be better.

personitis

A how-to would work wonders for me. A patch sounds like it may be a little limiting in the situation. Just make a guide.

Scyzer

Oh wow. Ice missiles look epic, though personally I wouldn't have any use for them anyway. You'd need to figure out a good puzzle for them that ice beam doesn't cover, otherwise it's just pointless having them in the game IMO.

That said, here's a BETA of some ASM I've been working on for a while. There's still a few bugs with it, especially with shinesparking and spinning (look at it this way, I haven't done the ASM for going back into a shinespark after coming out of one :/...)

ShineSpark Tricks

personitis

Looks similar to what Kej is doing in Insanity. Speaking of, is that hack still being developed? o.O

Quietus

I suspect so, and I also suspect that it's being kept quiet deliberately, so that when it's released we all have that 'OMG!' moment.

This is also what I'm doing with my hack, because I think it would need that extra boost of novelty. But yeah, I don't doubt that's what Kej is doing.

You also have to keep in mind that it's Kejardon... He's not going to come running over to MetConst, all eager to make a topic about it.  :heheh:

snarfblam

More NEStroid hackage...

Editroid sample 2

I can't decide, I think I like Norfair, but it might be too... dark and green.

personitis

I like the green. Kinda reminds me of stony Maridia.

Linux Fanboys Rejoice (and, yes, that is Shakira's butt).

snarfblam: Dude, oh my god. If you could use some go-through combo trickery and make a background for that sonuva it would be oh my gooooooood. Even so, that's pretty awesome looking. o_O

Jathys: Yay

MetroidMst: Stop making it so I can't find anything to criticize in those awesome pics of yours! Actually, I think the plants in the top left one look a little weird with few bits being totally solid white.

I find it kind of funny that those screens seem to so perfectly flow right into one another

snarfblam

We're here in Brinstar, where we've secretly replaced Samus' ugly doors with our new Super Metroid-esque doors. Let's see if she notices.

Metroid with Super Metroid Doors

I was going to say, "Can you spot the difference?" but the title of the video kinda gives it away. Anyhow, these doors eat up 30 tiles and 12 combos, which is a good chunk of Metroid's graphics data, but I think it would be worth it to have nice doors in my hack.

I thought that adding some backgrounds was an awesome idea, but the problem is that Samus is drawn behind the level graphics. I spent a while trying to put Samus in front of the bg, but then I realized that things like going "through" doorways and secret passages wouldn't look right with Samus in front of the graphics. There's that, and the fact that I couldn't make any sense of the sprite drawing code in Metroid... oh well.

Zhs2

Oh, totally damn. I forgot all about that. o_o Well, carry on...
