Ive been playing this hack again, and I'm attempting to go for 100%

My problem: I can't get the damn x-ray scope!

I have all the other equipment, and I am pretty sure that I unlocked every switch (including the red Lvl 2 switch by Draegon), but the xray scope is still locked up, even when I leave the ship/chozodia and get there without tripping wires

Does anyone know what could possibly be my issue?

Quote58

the x-ray can be gotten in two ways. It is in tourian along with a power bomb tank, until you blow the place up. Then it's in the space ship, wherein it is locked by 4 different switches, hidden around. One is especially tough to get, but still doable.
In tourian, the more awesome way, you need to kill certain space pirates with only the pseudo screw attack. This is pretty difficult, as you will die from like 2 hits, so you have to hit a certain part of their hitboxes, but it's also kinda fun.
Anywho, for you, you just need to find those other switches.

altoiddealer

Do they all need to be hit on the same visit or something?

I know for sure that I've hit em all!

I hit the green blue and yellow ones, then found a video to see how to get to the red one. I hit that one and its still locked

Scyzer

There are 4 separate switches only in the pirate ship. The other switches found in other areas do not count.
IIRC, the blue switch is in a tunnel right as you go in the front door, red is way up in the back of the ship, near the final boss (which is the hardest, as you cannot hit a tripwire on the way there), green is in the cockpit of the ship (you can almost see it if you climb up the outside), and yellow is hidden in the middle of the ship in a speedbooster section, near where you first see the 'solid' trip wires.

I know that I definitely hit them all :)

I checked out the map on Map Station to be sure, but from memory:
-inside the window which overlooks the left side of the ship
-in the lower left bay of the ship (a tunnel to the switch room, sealed with a power bomb block)
-under the kaizoball trick zone for the E tank (the trick is called kaizoball right?)
-by the final boss, can't trip wires to get to it.

Does hitting a switch a second time re-activate the lock?  I'm pretty sure I only hit them one time each though.

If hitting them a second time can't hurt, then I'll see if I can go through and hit all 4 in one run.

Also... the 4 locks are supposed to all turn off at one time, right?  All 4 locks are still there, mocking me  :stern:

altoiddealer

So I went around and hit all 4 switches again, but the X-Ray scope is still locked.

...Do I need to sneak to the X-Ray without setting off the alarms?  I don't know a route to do this yet but if its required I'll figure it out

LReyomeXX

Yes you do. It is a very hard side quest, but worth it if you get X-Ray early enough

Hello Everybody, :yay:
I was in Tourian for Lv3 switch and found this. From the lower room if I jump diagonally to the right, I can get pass the first gate but stuck between the gates after that. I reload and played to get X-ray and tried again just to see if there was something I missed in the first time. But I still can't find anyway out. I saw on youtube that I can destroy those gate with Plasma beam but without that I will be stuck there, right? :O_o:

Btw, I am playing MSZM like NBMB run for now. Got three unknown items, 3 reserve tanks, 7 full E-tanks, and all other upgrades except Gravity suit. Now trying to get gravity suit without fighting Botworm. Any advices?

I'm playing 2.3 Version and I'm in Ridley.... the graphics are glitching up... and I can't upload the pics x.x I'll find a way & edit my post

Edit: Oh by the way, can anyone tell me where
LVL 4 Door Unlocker
is?
Edit 2: nvm I found it

mw

2.4 is pretty fun. I picked it up mainly to be forced to learn some of the fun SM mechanics I'd keep ignoring otherwise. So far I've learned Mockball, Machball, Quick Charge, Short Charge, all variants of the Mid-Air Shinespark, whatever that thing is called that lets you break SB blocks below you while falling straight down, Reverse Gate Glitch and of course the ZM Boost Dashing. Maybe I'm forgetting something too.

Getting fairly close to Ridley but I'm not sure I can actually kill him since I was lazy with missile pickups in earlier areas. I think the door back to Norfair in the room that has the health recharger and the PB pickup locked when I got there so there's no going back for more. Maybe having Wave will be enough but if I have to ditch the run at Ridley I regret nothing.

I know this was a long while ago but in case you still need help, and I hope you don't, you got to do the RGG to open that gate from the wrong side.

These two are actually the same thing.  The only time it's any different is when doing it with echoes (Samus is blue, having gained enough speed), in which case it's known as speedball. :^_^:

Heh, well, that's what I meant. In this game there's a real difference with the two at least difficulty wise thanks to Boost Dash.

Edit: Okay, two questions. Guess I might as well spoiler tag the entire thing.
I did beat Ridley and unlocked lv2. Zeke's post says to advance further to the ship. Where was there a road to do this? It seemed possible if you could somehow get through the laser room near the warp but that can't be it, right? Alternatively there was a laser that said lv2 that bypassed the laser room but I found no way to interact with it. I couldn't figure it out so I returned to Ridley and just went to Tourian from there, the door that I was afraid was locked was just a green door.

Which leads to the second question, I'm in the room making use of the XRS after Super Metroid and there's a tiny, tiny space to do a Speedball. Just doing a Quick Charge is no good since your visor hits the wall by the time you could jump. Is there a good trick to doing the shorter charges that's consistent and not too difficult without TAS? My Short Charge is inconsistent if I pull it off at all, the distance before charge varies and it's really hindering my attempts. It doesn't help that I can't use the environment for distance observation either.
Edit 2: I finally got out after several hours of literal head-to-wall action. The route though...
lv2-Tourian-lv3-lv4-Gravity worked for me but if there was a way to do lv4-lv3 I have no clue which is intended. I guess 3-4 makes more sense, but 3-4 doesn't get Varia suit at all so who knows. I was one tank short after 3 and I don't think the remaining ones can be grabbed. The one tank in Crateria behind the E-tank that you Shine through on 2.3 could be gotten but I'm not sure. It sure as heck wasn't worth the effort. If you can get it it's technically also the first Super you can get since you can grab it straight after Spring Ball.
Progress wise I got the item hidden behind the four barriers and am looking to actually finish the game, but we'll see. There was a complication, unsurprisingly.

Edit 3: 2.4 cleared. It was a good exercise for a beginner with SM mechanics but not really something you can recommend to anyone.
Okay, Varia before lv4 is definitely possible, I didn't get the Spore Spawn Super you can get to from the Save Room with Supers. It might be possible even before lv3 but not sure if there was a nasty lv3 door somewhere on the way.

Since there's no walkthroughs for this anywhere, or at least any that I could find, I'm gonna list how to complete the game after Zeke's pointers. The little that's left anyway.

-Open the red lock by entering a fake wall in the last save point, get Powers that was locked out. You don't need to stealth this, just go and grab it.
-Possibly grab some additional Powers, especially the one next to Samus' ship is very simple to get.
-You do need stealth to fight the final boss though. Exit the ship to Crateria to reset stealth, reenter. Enter the ship through the PB/SB wall in the hull. Proceed as Northwest as you can go, especially past the Pirate Copters.
-Enter the last room by the breakable hatch entrance. Bomb the floor, run to the Reserve Tank and PB your way down. Speed Boost to the left and go kill the boss.
Nikoshiba

Hi !
I'm playing 2.3 version and I'm a kind of stuck in the Lvl 4 Switch Room just after getting Gravity Suit...
I guess I have to use missiles and mirrors but I just can't Shinespark, Shoot missile et go to the left...

Do you have any kind of tips for me please ?

By the way, now, I'm sure I'm an awful Shinesparker... ^^
Thanks

Quietus

It sounds like shinespark practice is in order. :^_^:

A few tips for doing so:

Firstly, to do the horizontal spark isn't too tough - press and hold jump, and then press left or right fairly quickly afterward.  The timing isn't too tight.
Secondly, in order to chain sparks together, you must be holding both forward and run when you hit the slope.  You can then just press down when you're ready.  Just remember that with the speed of the spark, you'll likely want to get in the habit of pressing down slightly before where you feel you need to do so.

Good luck!

Nikoshiba

Thanks !
Time for training is now !!! ^^
My problem is that when I want to shoot missiles, I do a vertical shinespark on the top of the room...

Noob time !

craighypheno

It is tricky (and took me about 5 billion* attempts) but it certainly is doable. You're still far from finished even once you've done lvl 4! That whole area is one of the most horrific yet brilliant things I've ever played.
I'd certainly recommending learning shinesparking and using it to pick up items which a lot of them require using that technique for, items will be needed for the last section if you're perhaps not very good, as I found out...
* may be overexaggerated slightly

Quietus

If you're having problems with sparking upward when you want to fire, then don't press up!  You can fire upward by pressing both aim up and aim down (normally L and R) at the same time. :study:

Nikoshiba

Okay thanks Quietus !
I'll have a try !

Now it's official : this room drives me crazy !!!!!!!!

Sorry but... I have a newbie question :
What if I don't activate this Level 4 switch ? I will not be able to go and find the last boss ?

Nikoshiba

Triple posting at this rate actually... However, I do believe you have to open the level 4 gate otherwise you can't obtain the last major item.

Nikoshiba

Last Major Item ? The X-Ray Scope ?
Because I think I have all the other major items...

If skeeping this switch doesn't block me to finish the game, I will continue my "journey"... U__U'

(and sorry for triple posting)

When I played this hack (a while ago now) you had to unlucky the level 4 gate to be able to beat the game, so I had to go back and search for it. If this is still true then I recommend unlocking it now instead of spending ages trying to find the room again later to unlock the gate.  :^_^:
