You all may have heard about this hack a while ago. It was only recently completed about a week ago, but not released to the general public (by general I mean English speaking.... aka US). Considering those Japanese hackers routinely use our patches and docs we make, and even distribute our hacks among their sites, I feel it's only necessary to release a hack from them over here :P

Metroid Super ZeroMission (SM HACK) Preview

You can grab the zip here. It's unheadered. Source page on the JP wiki.

I am not claiming ownership of this hack. I am merely distributing it here to our forums, and have not modified the zip file. The creator was YT user SBniconico.
When you get to Kraid, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SAVESTATE AT THE START OF THE BATTLE!! There is a bug where if you shoot the spikes too much, they are destroyed, and do not respawn, making it near impossible to kill Kraid.

Good stuff!

Now are there supposed to be some weird flashing glitchy tiles in yellow Brinstar, or is my copy of JIPS in Linux buggy? (If so, that explains why the Justin Bailey versions of these hacks haven't been working for the new ones I tried.)

Edit: It's JIPS.  I played the game by "soft-patching" and letting snes9x-gtk apply the IPS, and the glitches disappeared.

I played tonight/this early morn, and I got up to the unknown screw attack. I don't know how to get to ridley. I have the following:
morph, bombs, 50-70 missiles, 10-15 supers, charge, ice, wave, spazer, hi-jump, speed booster, grapple, space jump(unknown), screw attack(unknown), Varia, 5-6 E-tanks, spring ball and 2 R-tanks. Beaten Kraid, Crocomire and Spore spawn.
Any help on as to where to go is muchly appreciated

Loving the hack btw, thanks JP's!

Katelyn

Great game.
Kraid is a douche in this game. The spikes don't respawn. But I found a way to avoid losing to him. It's all luck, though.
You have to run up to Kraid and climb his belly. Keep jumping and running at him. When you get up there, shoot as many supers and normal missiles into his head. If you're lucky, you can take him out on the first go.
Hi  mm i had a question
i just kill Ridley and dont know were to go in Pirate Ship and i cant go back, and those one-hit-kill pirates make it all more dificult to explore .

I just realize one guy posted that he HAS Varia before even meet Ridley and i still dont :S  i pass all lower norfair at the limit, i fear maybe im stuck cos i skip that item and for some reason that dont let me pass Pirate Ship?. Aw i was havin so much fun :( Help?

Edit: wow! he also had ice and wave! i just got spazer lol also i havent got spring ball either ._.
Scyzer

Not many items are required in this hack. I've yet to complete it, but a few people have completely missed items, and had no problem getting pretty far into it.
Brinstar, top right, in the light green area. Look for a room with a shotblock in the ceiling. You need grapple or IBJ.

Norfair, a few rooms to the right of the first elevator. If you hit a really large tall room, you've gone too far.

Norfair. Look for a horizontal room with mind-fraking layer scroll speeds. It's after Croc.

Spring is behind a switch in a large purple Norfair room, close to Wave. You need Wave to get it.
Crashtour99

Beat it in just over 12 hours at 78%.  Was gonna go for 100% but said fuck it.  Whoever made this really loves those tricky shinespark maneuvers.  Some parts were awesome, others were just fucking tedious (like looking for the switch for level 4 locks).  All in all I'd put it at about the same level as Redesign.

squishy_ichigo

A great hack that gets better as you progress. I'd call the beginning quite mediocre though.
I spent a little more time looking for the lvl 4 switch then I should have. (was looking in the completely wrong area)

My only grumble with this would be the cloud-like scenery at the beginning, but it's true to the Zero Mission tiles, so I guess I should let it go.

Apart from that I'm really enjoying it.  I must resist sequence breaking by IBJing everywhere.  I'll try and leave that for a second playthrough. :yay:

I've been having a lot of fun with this hack but i can't seem to figure out where to go next, if someone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.
I have missiles, grapple, charge, ice, varia, morph ball, bomb, and hi-jump boots.
Edit: Nevermind, figured it out.

MetroidMst

Well... This is definitely worth a playthrough, but the explorational difficulty is way more than I prefer. My Youtube video playthrough will be up sometime in the next few weeks.

Scyzer

I've just made it to Tourian, but haven't actually ventured into it yet.

For those who wish to add a little more puzzle and less "getting absolutely destroyed" to the hack:
Take the time to go around the yellow tripwires in the Pirate Ship. It may take a while to figure out the tricks, but at the expense of a bazillion Pirates in every room, with shutters closing o you left right and center, it's well worth it. Plus you get a nice prize at the end, which you would otherwise have to wait a while to get, and it makes things a LOT easier later on :D

I've just made it to Tourian,
So you're about half way through the game then.  lol  :P

squishy_ichigo

No, she's a dork and totally skipped Tourian like a dork. She's at the end of the game.

Orel

Okay, i've been wandering around for the last 3 hours trying to figure out where to go, could one of you point me in the right direction?
I can't seem to find the LV4 switch, gravity suit or a way to activate my unknown items. (not sure which of these i'm supposed to find first)
Scyzer
Lv4 is hidden deep into Western Chozodia. It is possible to get to it without your fully powered suit, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you love boss fights where touching the ground means death.

Unknown items and gravity go together, like in Zero Mission. You need to find all 3 of them before you can get Gravity though.

Thanks for replying, but I think I'm gonna need a bit more help.
I've actually found all 3 unknown items, I just have no idea where I'm supposed to even start looking for the gravity suit, and I tried venturing into that western chozodia area without the stuff and it seemed pretty damn hard.
There's quite a bit of underwater venturing involved. There's 4 ways in as far as I know.
The first is to go through the pirate ship out the right side, into Chozodia. From there you can go all the way around to get to Gravity.
Second (which is what I did) is to do a series of underwater shinesparks starting from the Pirate Ship, and going underneath it to come out a few rooms above gravity. It was quite difficult tho, and if you can't pull off quick shinesparks and duck charges, don't even bother. Use savestates. Lots of savestates :P
The third is through the lower part of Chozodia, from Brinstar. You'll need to have beaten Mother Brain I think, to make the barrier go away.
The last way brings you directly to the lower left of Gravity (and is the fastest way in). The entrance is right near the Norfair/Ridley elevator. You need speedbooster.
squishy_ichigo
Those last two aren't going to work, as the 3rd one is a lvl 4 gate, and the last one is a gray door until you fight a boss inside.
Please tell me none of the methods involve making it passed this room. (or any other bullshit of this high a caliber)
I've spent more than half an hour on this bullshit and this is the furthest I've gotten
Edit: I figured it out, apparently i was just sucking at grappling earlier, as for that bullshit shinesparking/mockballing room i mentioned, i'd love to see a video of that being pulled off.

I was thinking orange gates would go away after beating Mother Brain, but not sure. Also, I came out through the 4th entrance, so there was no grey door for me. My mistake :O
Yes sir! (Or did you mean the room you posted pics of above? Cause I have never been in that room)

Underwater Shinespark to Chozodia
I just used quickmet to put myself there, as I couldn't be bothered going all the way around to do so. I've given myself approximately how many items I had at the time (though I doubt I had that many PBs, whatever). Not sure if this area stays the same after Mother Brain, cause I haven't killed her yet.

I meant the room i posted pics of, but that was still really cool nonetheless, i would have never thought of getting there that way. The room i posted pics of is to the left of the room with the enemy that breaks through walls (the one that normally leads to the spring ball). The room itself is filled with lots of spikes and lasers and requires shinesparking and speed mockballing with use of the spingball.  The screenshots i posted of the room really don't do it justice, you gotta see it for yourself.

Anyways, i finally beat this last night, I ended with 12 something hours and 63% items.

i beat it! more than 14 hours of enjoyment. wow this was so cool. my only complain is the choice of music for the pirate ship at the end after gettin gravity, never likd too much that song and is a bit anticlimatic for the final, they should use the intro one :P

dont open if you havnt finish it; could ruin surprises
i really like the mother brain ghost and all that destroyed tourian idea, so creative and cool, and i laugh so hard when i see the metaridley! haha xD
great game, way better than fusion and zero mission :)

X-tradyte

I beat it last night, I really love the mother brain fight, Phantoon as MB? I never thought of that.

There is one thing I never got though....X-ray... I know where it was, but I only found 2 lazer beams to shut off, (L-1 and 2 but never got to get to 2)

I finished with 5:08 and 59%. I liked Draygon, and I loved how he did the levels. I thought GT was a bitch though. and what he did with Botwoon was amazing. after I claimed Gravity, those gay red pirates were nothing. I might make a runthough and post it on youtube when I get my internet back, but First. can anyone tell me where to get the L-3 and 4 and how to get to L-2 lazer beams for X-ray?

I also found that, having PB's in tourian was a bitch through the game without them.
