lol, I did that on the first run at the ship and figured I'll just run through the traps after I got the Gravity Suit

actually, might have tripped the traps sooner than that, oh well.

I'll try to beat this tonight and start over again tomorrow. Now I know for future reference.

Scyzer

You don't have to start over to reset the alarm system. Just leave the pirate ship and come back.

Dope. Saves me a few hours then.

About to try this, again.

Now I'm stuck on the Power Bombs in Crateria, right by your ship, that have no visible path to them -- no speedblocks, no nothin'.  Help? :)
I feel like I should have to go through the Power Bomb door to get there, since otherwise it'd be a very easy sequence break to grab powerbombs, but nothin' in the ceiling there. I got power bombs right after Speed Booster, so I'm good to go for that.  Is it just not accessible until after the escape sequence or something?

You'll get them later on... don't worry about them now.  You'll see

So I simply can't get them now, even if I already have power bombs?

If I remember correctly, they are very easy to grab once you defeat Mother Brain
Okay, now I'm stuck on the Pirate ship to Chozodia shinespark break-in. :)
I get that since this video was made (Super Zero Mission - Underwater Shinespark To Chozodia) they added another row of speed-booster blocks to make things more difficult, meaning we have to shinespark straight across.  How does one get their shinespark up to the ledge where you can shinespark across?  I can make it onto the ledge with a speed-boosted rolling jump, but the act of landing or stopping makes me lose my charge.
Do you guys know if anyone has made a walkthrough or TAS of the hard edition? I would love to see something like that. Normal is hard enough for me, especially trying to go for 100%.

Here's a hard edition walk-through:

Part001 - 改造スーパーメトロイド 〔 Super Zeromission(HARD) ver2.2 〕

It's not a TAS but there is obviously some tool assist.

super nintendo hacker

Hey guys, I was messing around with TAS and i accomplished a glitch where i can get to the kraid and ridley statue area EXTREMLEY EXTREMLEY early in the game when i only have 5 missiles and charge beam :yay:
if you dont belive me or want to know how to do it here is a video that i made(sorry it doesent show the room but it shows the area):

Once you get the charge beam the game directs you to go to that room anyway. The real TAS glitch is how you got past the crumble blocks back to the vertical passage outside the Charge Beam hallway.

Vondy56

so im stuck in this game i have recently obtained the bomb and i just enter brinstar depths (kraid's lair) and i am stuck i am not sure where to go now and im prety sure i need to get through this room(pic below) i can't roll through because the floor is a 1 way fall through so does anyone have any suggestions on where to go or what i should do next?

From that room, go as far right as possible. Then up as much as possible. You should find your way by just exploring. It's not as hard as you're thinking it is.

Televangelist

Ugh, so now I'm trying to use Shinespark to break into Western Chozodia and having the worst time with it.  I've gotten to the part where you go underwater and begin shinesparking underwater... but when there's that one high ledge you have to get over underwater, I'm stuck.  I can do a running glowy leap over it into a speed mockball that will get me all the way to the Power Bombs, but once I do a speed mockball, I can't save my charge, can I?  And If I'm doing a running speed-boosted leap (where I'm rolling in the air at high speed), I can't horizontally shinespark out of that.  I'm basically at a loss for how to keep my charge going when I make that high leap and switch screens underwater.

SadiztykFish's youtube account disappeared for some reason, so I can't consult his video either. :(

Televangelist

Ugh, still stuck on this. Why, oh why, did SadiztykFish have to take his YouTube account down?

Still not sure how to keep my Shinespark charge through that last little bit.  Is there any way at all to speedball and yet keep your charge?  Or to do a speedy rolling jump and hit the ground running while keeping your charge?

So I decided to give v2.3 a shot. I need help with a possibly ridiculously stupid request...

Where is the level-1 lock.

Spoilers below...

I killed Ridley, traversed the Space Pirate ship, and then killed Kraid. Went to the door to enter Tourian, but the Kraid level-1 door won't open--it's still gray. I can hear the Ridley door open (I have the wave beam). Did I miss the level-1 lock? Anyone remember where it is? Or is this a new bug, introduced in this version, since I got the speed booster without defeating Kraid first, then defeated Kraid, and then after that I didn't trigger the lava in the speed booster room (obviously since I already got the speed booster)?

Thanks for any help you could provide. I am under the impression that this problem is just me not hitting the level-1 lock...

MetroidMst

The level-1 lock was in the room with Speed Booster. (At least in the first version of the hack. I have not played any other versions yet. I don't think any locks were moved though.)

Thanks. I'll double check that room. If it is there, which it most likely is, it's hidden behind blocks this time around.

...yea. It was in that room...not hidden at all. I can't believe I didn't see it. Twice i was in that room. Thanks for replying.

I managed to get somewhat perma-stuck in MSZM Hard 2.4. I'm completely lost and stuck between 2 small areas of the game. I currently have:

-Morph Ball
-Bomb
-Charge Beam
-Missiles
-Grapple Beam

After doing a suitless heat-run to get to the Grapple Beam in Crateria, I'm stuck in that area of Crateria or the small section of Norfair. I can't get back up the original lift due to no Ice Beam to freeze the 4 Red indestructible enemies (hovering over a small 1-way floor) and Crateria is the same. Unless I can somehow magically get super TAS'ing abilities to get up a room in Crateria (left of the lift), I'm perma-stuck :(

Moniker

Running into an odd issue. Upon entering the Kraid fight, the start menu gets a bunch of graphic glitches. Fight otherwise proceeds normally, but then upon exiting and shinesparking, the game completely glitches out and eventually crashes. Anyone else see this problem, or have recommendations? I'm using Snes9x for PSP.

Zhs2

I don't know if the start menu glitches up during the Kraid fight, but what I do know is that I've had no problems whatsoever with SZM using SNES9xTYL 0.4.2 (All the way up to being stumped over how to reach the level 4 lock, even.) I highly recommend it over that piece of crap SNES9x Euphoria - grab it here. In case that doesn't help, my next recommendation would be to "pause" with the PSP's home button and not the start button...

Moniker

Hrm.. No dice, apparently, even when avoiding the start menu. Using TYL, but I also threw control freak on top of it. Thanks for the reply, though, I was worried it was the emulator. Now I know I can just play it through w/o CF.

Quote58

Ya, it's not the emulator, the game doesn't work properly with control freak. My brother used it and it froze around the same time. I guess he has some conflicting code in there.

For starters, there's no such thing as somewhat permastuck. I checked my Hard mode progress post / mini-FAQ, and whether it's possible to get back to Brinstar now or not, you don't need to -- Norfair is where you advance. The next step is to head to the right and start doing hell runs. Some of them turn out to be red herrings, so save state a lot. Your target is the Ice Beam.

Do consult that post next time you have trouble. I had so much trouble myself that I wanted to spare others the same.

Moon Man: I found those on Nico Nico Douga earlier. Glad to see they're now on YouTube, which is less paranoid about letting people watch stuff. Unfortunately, it's more a Let's Play than a speedrun, and seems to be permanently stalled at Part 6. The maker of SZM has actually recorded an .smv for Hard, but it has problems of its own -- more on that later.

Moniker: Yeah, Control Freak rarely gets along with hacks that make their own changes to Samus's mechanics. Doesn't work at all with AngryFireChozo, for instance. It does surprisingly well with SZM -- the result is actually playable (which can't be said for Redesign with CF). But it overwrites both the rechargeable shinespark and respin. The latter is only a problem for perfect stealth; the former makes it impossible to get past Kraid. It's too bad -- this hack was born to be Control Freaked.
