Well, here it is. Didn't wanna make a topic for my hack here until I had a little bit more to share.

Metroid Grime: DS (not gonna say what "DS" means or it'd give away the storyline, but feel free to guess) is an upcoming full hack. Emphasis will be placed extensively on graphics and aesthetic detail, and the gameplay will focus more on action and exploration than puzzle solving. If all goes well, this game should be quite a bit larger and longer than the original. Depending how many free banks I have left by the time I finish remaking all 274 existing rooms, I'll keep adding more until I no longer have space.

You can expect many secrets, shortcuts, alternate routes, item order and other things to boost replayability. This is not a challenge hack. Difficulty will be on-par (but probably slightly harder in some instances) with the original Super Metroid as far as progressing through the game and finding your way. The only necessary skills to complete it will be wall jumping, mid-air morphing and basic shinesparking.

Crateria - All but 3 rooms complete
Green/blue/pink Brinstar - All but around 4-5 rooms complete
Red Brinstar - Complete
All other areas - Untouched, for the most part

And of course, the screens:

Lunaria

Metroid Grime: Death Sweatshirt!
* Crys is shot

You know I think it looks kickass so far. :P

Super Metroid: Death star

I think "gloomer" is an enemy from SMRPG, but if it isn't, then these must be called this.

Also, how did I manage to not see those before? :O_o:

I'm putting my vote in for the title of Metroid DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM (The S is not important.)

No better incentive to keep your wits about you than a bloodstained corridor.

Bioniclegenius

I laughed when I read the part about an 'incentive'.. Anyways, this game is REALLY looking awesome! You spent a good amount of time on palettes, and the backgrounds look nice with it, too. Seriously, I think you captured the feeling of the orginal SM, but more so. So far, I don't really see any problems with it , except maybe with the palettes of the zoomers. I don't know if it's just me, but that, while it matches the scenery around it, doesn't really look good in and of itself.

Point taken. So far, there's like 4-5 different colored zoomers in different parts of the hack. Any time I'm able to, I'll give an enemy a new palette (well, the palette of another enemy) by making them share the same value. The same old colors for every enemy is boring, so I'll be exhausting every decent combination thereof.

Small update. Some of you have probably seen this already if you're an IRCer, but here it is anyway:

As for everyone trying to guess what "DS" means - none of you are even close. "Cream Queen Des" is your only hint. Have fun with it.

Draconis Kenjishiya

Still looks awesome, mate...phenomenal. I'm not even going to try to guess what "DS" stands for, as I've no idea that isn't retarded XD...still excited for this. Keep it up ^.^

One thing I've noticed a lot with your pictures are that there seems to be nothing for the background. It might actually be a good thing, as otherwise the pitures might be so busy I'd waste hours of my life studying a single screenshot.

Digital_Mantra

Well, I know what the DS stands for, given the blatantly obvious clue that you used an anagram as a hint.
Anyways, this hack is looking top notch. Quality stuff here.

and your gfx, look really different like a completely different feel behind super metroid, keep up the good work  :icon_biggrin:

To date, only one or two rooms intentionally use a completely black BG. Most any other shots with no BG means I haven't made it yet. =P
