New to SM hacking

Hey all. I'm new to SM hacking and was wondering what program you would recommend? I've heard of SMILE and a few others but I'd like to see what most people favor before trying stuff out. I'll check back on this in the morning.

So I decided to try out MAGE and start with that. SMILE was a bit overwhelming so I figure once I'm pretty confident with MAGE I'll return to SMILE and see what I come up with. For now though, I'll see what I can come up with using MAGE with Zero Mission.

There's also SMART, also used for Super Metroid hacking, except it spares you the hassle of having to do lots of hex edits.
