Non-standard scroll in room 79CB3?

I tried this in a clean room just to make sure it wasn't just me fucking up somewhere else. Room 79CB3 does not take kindly to any scroll data that isn't it's standard for some reason. If set to 0000 or 0001 the top left screens in the room just completely flips out when it comes to scrolling. Does anyone know why? I can't seem to find anything that would cause this.

The room's FX2 does something with the scrolls. Just repoint that to 0000 and you're good to go.

As an outsider to SM hacking, this looks like spaghetti to me. An effect layer fucking over the camera movement. I don't even know how you guys figure this stuff out.

Hehe, a lot of it is simply trial and error. I suspect much of what has been discovered was the result of investigations into broken ROMs. :^_^:

Small note on the FX2 for 79CB3: you can always delete it, it's a bizarre routine that does nothing in the original game.

It checks to see if you're in the top-left section of the room (within the first three scrolls) AND you've fallen down the pit (checked by checking what colour the scroll just under the speed blocks is, which is changed by scroll PLM), and if both those conditions are true, it starts to scroll the screen to the right by 3 pixels per frame.

Bizarre.
