Hyper Metroid on a Mac/OpenEmu

As the title suggests, I cannot figure out how to patch in Hyper Metroid into my OpenEmu on my Mac mini 2012. The Hyper Metroid website says to read the ReadMe supplied with the download, but as I am on a mac, I can't read or access the game download (both headered and unheadered). Any hints, suggestions, tips... anything... will help. I specifically downloaded the OpenEmu JUST to play Hyper Metroid since Super Metroid is one of my very few favorites. Thank you for your time.

The Hyper Metroid downloads are in .rar format which Mac's built in archive program doesn't support.
I would suggest trying a program like unarchiver to extract it.
