Prelude to Destiny

CHAPTER 1: Regenisis

Vesper Defense Outpost
Gemini 13, 583
11:30 PM

The status chamber buzzed and lights flickered from large, complex electronics. Amongst the machinery was the focus point of the room, as well as the center for the Project Chi. A thick, plexy-coated glass vassal contained an organic liquid, but obviously it was intended for a person, a special person. Formerly known as Majlar, subject 1041 had received weekly dosages of a potent gene, used to enhance subtle traits.. in some humans. For seven years, he had been given the "treatment" and had stained his hair into a silver white. His life expectancy wasn't great, but for his purpose, it was a generous amount of time.
Occasionally, a researcher clad in white would step into the chamber to check the current state of the subject. Recently, the dosage of the gene had been increased, and was due for another increase.
A glass screen separated the chamber from another, connected room. Within it, a team of scientists eagerly prepared the next dosage. They quickly channeled it to the subject's enclosure. On a wall, a graph showed the change in 1041's heart rate, before it returned to average- a normal phenomena.
One of the scientists sat down before a computer and took a sip of coffee. He pulled out a log book to record what had taken place.
"The kid has potential..." said a scientist as he viewed notes of the subject's recent cerebral activity. ".. But only time will tell-"
An explosion from the chamber rocked the room and shattered the glass wall. Detained with records, the team had not realized that the subject had awakened and escaped from his glass prison. Sirens began to blare and the fallen scientists quickly fled.
The subject stumbled out of his crypt and onto the glass laden floor. First he stretched, but he collapsed onto his knee moments later. He felt a sting coursing through his body. "What is this.. My head.. It burns." he struggled to remark. Images flickered in his mind; stone buildings and snow covered fields. "Who.. Am I?" he wondered. Again, images filled his head, like snapshots of a past life; a village blazed by fire.
Dazed, he finally came to his senses. He picked himself off the cold, metal floor and understood the sudden impulse that hit him- escape. Not aware of what to escape from, just to
flee. As he entered the proceeding room, a computer monitor caught his eye. He approached like a lost dog to a stranger. He led his finger on the screen as he read.

   Project: Chi - Alpha
      - Specimen shows clear signs of a hereditary gene found only within a Liberi blood line.

He scrolled father along the records of the experimentation that had been done on him.

.. No longer human, greater than Liberi...

Recalling events that had taken place there, he filled with rage. No matter who he was in the past, he was something different now. He could never return.
He shook his head in denial.
As if sensing the presence of another, he turned to the door, where a shadowy figure was standing.
"What have we here?," questioned the figure.
The kid was slightly startled, but he dared not move.
"Care to explain what you're reading?.. Boy?" the figure snapped.
Though a thousand questions raced in his head, the kid only cared to ask one. The shadowy figure drew closer, revealing an older man, likely in his mid-forties. He was dressed in full white, even his glasses being chalky.
The kid went ahead and asked, "Who am I?"
Amused, the man simply laughed, "Why, you're the greatest life form! You're Chi - Alpha!"
