Not sure if I'm putting this in the right place, I need your help

Hello. I am Sixxon. As the title says, I really really need your help. I was a lurker for about a week now, and the problem has become so annoying I decided to make a account.

The basic gist of it is: I can't play ROMHacks.

I'll tell you everything so you can find out.

So first, I downloaded Lunar IPS like all you do. I downloaded the Super Metroid Phazon Hack, and patched Super Metroid with it. I put it through the SNES9XGX Emulator on my Wii.

Result: Weird-as-hell title screen with a bunch of seemingly random pixels. Blank Screen. (Bear in mind this Emulator works, VERY well.)

I exit out and just think it's my Wii, and I download the computer version. I try loading up the patched ROM in that.

Result: The exact same weird-as-hell title with the same seemingly random pixels. Blank Screen, just like the Wii.

I try downloading a different hack. "Super Metroid Fear". I patch it. I run it in SNES9x.

Result: Regular normal "Nintendo" logo. But after that, black screen forever.

I try all in a entirely different emulator, ZSNES.

Result: Each hacked ROM crashes the program upon load.

So, now, I download SMILE to see if at least THAT can run it.

Result: "This ROM is pal and will not work right with SMILE.".

...Now I'm stuck.

First, can't find NTSC-U version of Super Metroid.

Second, the regular ROM works just fine in the emulators.

Third, this is exactly the reason I needed your help.

What exactly am I doing wrong?

The root of your problem is that you can only play these hacks with the NTSC-U version.
You can't play them using a PAL rom, since they were made using a NTSC rom.
So, unless you can get your hands on one, you are out of luck bro.

ProjectXVIII recommends trying Google.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also, ima move this to offtopic~

I lol'ed. Come back when you have tried bsnes. :P

But yes, as Squishy said your problem is in the ROM: You need an (JU) version of the ROM not the (E). Other possibly listing name for this type of ROM are: (U) and (UJ)
Since if all patches fails this points to:
A. wrong ROM type
B. wrong header setting

You could try and see if your ROM is headered or not, most hacks only works with either or, not both.

Sixxon

Thank you, you two.

Unfortunately Google is not being my friend.

Sixxon

Okay, yay, the romhacks work now! =D

...But SMILE doesn't. D=

Apparently, the rom I got is a .sfc, and while the romhacks work with it, SMILE apparently only reads .smc...which is only the filename of the pal rom I have...-_-

Zhs2

Rename it. Won't hurt anything.

Also, .sfc is the proper extension these days, as pushed by byuu.

Sixxon

You people are officially awesome.

Everything works now.

Feel free to lock this now.
