the level design is good, but it looks like a very unreal painting. I'm ONLY loving the original level design - i hate it, if games are just a bit of nice color - if i want color, i'm going to the museum ore watch painting from "Vincent van Gogh".

I like the original design - nothing else. it must look like metroid, not another game. I know, you aren't thinking so, but I'm doing this.

All in all, I want a hack, that still looks like the original game - maybe 20% changed colors, but not more. Than the map must be changed 100%. You should use EVERY tile. The physics should be changed more than 5% --> Most of all submitted Hacks don't have changed physics. The map still looks like the original. The palattes are still Blazing (ore totaly looking wrong, like pink Crateria.) Also, there are often used the same tiles - That just looks boring.

I'm just doing this 4 things.

I'm sorry, if this is to much of redesign, but I'm not a magician. I'm doing a bullshit, to make a hack, that looks 5% like Eris ore less - I'm sayin this the last time: I hate unsuitable Palettes. Eris is Art, but doesn't look like a Game. I love the Design, but HATE the full palette. Nothing works for me.

Now, I sayd it understandable? good.

What you are saying is that every hack should still look like the game it was made from.  Why?  One of the ideas of making hacks is to expand beyond the original game to make something completely new, like DMan did with Eris and Acheron is doing with Aegis.  I'm not saying you have to make it look like a completely different game, but sometimes new is better than same old.

This has got to be one of the dumbest debate threads I've ever encountered.

Eris looks like a game, it plays like a game, and it's got a fair amount of aesthetic touches to add realism to the game.

Therefore what your argument states is this:
I don't like my games with realism, but I don't want them to be boring.

Also, you just lost the game.

this one time, I thought I was mistaken, but I was mistaken.

also, magikarps soon.  This topic is more or less dead.

Super Metroid is a game. You're modifying it, effectively building your own game on top of SM's engine, and in many cases modifying the engine too. A massive part of a game is it's graphical style, that together with level and sound design creates the game's atmosphere. Basically, by intentionally limiting how much you change the graphics you're also limiting your audience, who often don't come looking for "More Super Metroid", they've played Super Metroid, they know that whatever they play probably can't match SM in level design. They want a new experience, a new game with a new atmosphere - and a huge part of that is graphics. This is a silly discussion.

Shouldn't this topic be "Games can't be art (NOT Another Redesign Topic)"
