Because shigeru miyamoto won't make any series progress into the future "metroid fusion" the hackers will do it.
Whether hackers or fan gamers get shot down, more will pop up to make a point about the series and progress it.
What? That doesn't make sense. Miyamoto doesn't make games anymore. Well, at least not a lot of them. All he does is green light things and stuff.

what are you talking about ?

This is why fan gamers eventually made acmlm, rhdn, smwc, metroidconstruction and zeldix.

I think you're misunderstanding me - I was referring to the official games being made. Normally, as long as Nintendo continue to release them, the series will continue. If they don't release them (at least not a good one), then it's the fans' love of those series that keeps the interest alive, partly through fan games. If Nintendo shuts them all down, then the interest will die because Nintendo doesn't seem interested in giving the fans what they want. That's what I meant when I mentioned Nintendo harming itself.

I agree with Quietus. If the company itself is unable to give us what we want, wise fans are. Nintendo is the only one who doesn't seem able to understand this, shutting down anything made by fans.

Then again, Nintendo always had this habit, and they always had shot at their own legs on an insane troll logic that tells them that they're defending themselves against the future. One thing I can say for sure: if Nintendo didn't act like Disney, fucking everything up that isn't made by them, things would be different. Shit, I think there must be an alternate universe where Nintendo did actually hire Guasti after seeing AM2R in its full glory.

A bit pedantic and actually unrelated to the matter. But Miyamoto is indeed still making games. He's in general more involved with green lighting things and other matters these days, but, he also does rarely take the lead designer/producer role in development. His most recent involvement (as far as I'm aware) was Starfox Zero, which came out this year.

Copyright laws go a bit to far in my opinion, I understand wanting to 'protect' the creator and whatnot, but it's taken to the extreme sometimes.

However, we all know that this shit isn't strictly speaking 'legal'. So you take that risk really when you start a fangame or similar work that you are gonna be shutdown or worse. I think people who think they are entitled to things are pretty silly.

If you have a problem with the way a company is operating, boycott them, and stop buying their products. They will either start listening to their customers, or they will go out of business.

Alternatively, complain about it on the internet and do nothing substantive, I'm sure that will work.

Lol.

Metroid may very well not be in nintendo's best business interest anyway. Not enough of a guaranteed consumer base and/or funds or even creative space to expand it.

Keep in mind we're all burning nostalgia fuel and the older we get, the pickier. It's just not financially worthwhile to cater to us.

Depends on what kind of budget you slap on a game though. A small team with a small budget could still make a good game, even if the target demographic is rather narrow. That being said, I don't think Metroidvanias are honestly that niche, and clearly there are games coming out in the genre that are doing financially well. :p

I agree with lunaria. There are plenty that come out that are doing fine. A good recent example is Salt And Sanctuary. It's basically a Dark Souls Metroidvania. Beat it. Lot's of fun. Another game that looks promising that is a Metroidvania is Chasm so i don't think it's dying or going away anytime soon.
