Does anyone know what my problem is?

Smile isn't working now for some reason and my windows says its a virus. It used to work but then it decided to die on me

Error message: Run-time error '52': Bad file name or number

If you know how to fix this please help! :nowai:

When my windows defender said malware was detected and said it was removing it, it deleted a lot of the DLL files in the SMILE 25 folder so maybe that's why it isn't working so someone give me a solution on how to not get the DLL files deleted?

Assuming you don't know anything about computer programming:
SMILE is not a stand-alone application, meaning it requires the use of other files to properly function. The program is hard coded to look for these files with a specific name, location, and file extension. If you change any of these, it can likely cause an error like that, since the program cannot run without that file, hence "Run-time error." There's a possibility you may have moved/deleted something without even realizing it, so your solution may be as simple as deleting SMILE from your computer and re-downloading it. The likelihood of it being a virus is fairly low if you're not getting the same error from other programs on your computer.

i didn't separate The SMILE file away from the DLL files. If i want to do that i would create a shortcut. I also redownloaded it and i got the same error and said it was a virus still even though it isnt

I'll just play a new metroid hack while this problem is trying to be resolved

Also when it said removing malware it deleted most of the DLL files in the zip file

For future reference, you can edit your original post so you don't have to make three one sentence posts in a row, the administration might not appreciate that so much. For the most part, it sounds like this is a computer problem versus a SMILE problem. We're all somewhat tech savvy here, but it might help us diagnose your issue if you happen to have any screenshots, particularly of whatever is claiming you have a virus.

Could i make a video and show you it?

TobiMikami

That's probably even better. I have suspicions, but I can't confirm anything unless I see what you're seeing.

I'd first ask if there's a specific reason you need SMILE 2.5? If not, you would be better off starting with SMILE RF, which is much more up-to-date, and better overall. If you have any problems during its installation, make sure you've followed the instructions carefully, as some issues have already been resolved.

Thanks for helping me Quietus
