Just looking for recommendations for a decent YouTube video recording/editing application.  Here's what I want to do with it:

Record:

(The main stuff)
Nestroid (Metroid 1) content (obviously I guess)
Half-life and source engine gaming content

General stuff I'd like to do with it:

Add text
edit video lengths, crop sections
Add/modify sound, music
Basic effects like fade in/out

I don't mind paying for an application if it's easier to use than some of the free programs.  Also additional functionality (beyond the basics) might find a use at some point.

What I do may or may not be helpful:

For recording gameplay, I just use the emulator. (Record movie/playback record .avi files off of that) I had Lagarith codec recommended to me and have been using that for avi recordings. (Audio desyncs after a bit, which is part why I record the movie first, so I can pause and start another avi recording and do them in smaller chunks to prevent the desync.)
Also, OBS can be used just as well once you get things set up. (It can do local recordings, so it has some good use for this type of thing.)
I also use Camtasia for general screen recording.

Video editing:
You can pretty much do all of that with Windows Movie Maker without a problem. Although, IIRC, you have to render a movie, and then plug it back in and then render it with any music you want. I think there was a cap to how many audio files could be in the timeline or something, not 100% sure though.

I made an VB application that takes screenshots repeatedly. Sadly, I do not have experience with DirectX, OpenGL, or SDL. (Those would probably be better to use...) It works but sync/timing is terrible with it. (the bigger the area the worse it is. The smaller, the better.) Honestly, I recently found out about OBS and I like it. (I recommend this.) As for Video Editing... Same as MST said. I use WMM. It's not perfect but, it works. If I understood how to go about using sound recordings and such, I could code it in my App but, I do not have a lot of experience with it. :\
