Thanks, I am also following your XGA project with much interest!
With the latest update I'm proud to report that Ridley is no longer a push over. Many changes were made to the Ridley fight as I always thought he was way too easy in the original. No longer does he simply stand still and lob fireballs, he now jumps around the level and his fireballs are much harder to avoid, also meaning that they block more of your shots.
As with Kraid the screw attack does no damage and bombs have been nerfed as well, you're forced to get up close and personal if you want to get any damage done. I've also tweaked the lava to do normal damage even with varia, so you can't just sit underneath him and spam wave beam through the floor. I think these changes will create a really intense battle, especially in two player
Another new change I made that adds to the arcade feel is a clear screen after every section that tallies up item collection, time and item skip bonuses, as well as enemy bounty.
There are also some new game modes planned like a 2 player assist mode and boss rush. Assist mode will have the second player hovering around Samus as a baby metroid, leaving them free to drain enemies and collect health and ammo pickups that Samus might have missed. This is designed for younger/less skilled players who may not be ready for full co-op but still want to contribute.
All that's left now is Tourian, which should be very interesting to code with an arcade aspect in mind.

Will there be any updates at all?
