I was wondering other peoples Time & % Of Collected Items on Other M.
I made 3 runs
1st Run - 10:32 100% (I could not escape because it glitched at one point and put me though the door during the bonus part. The first Door enemy is when this happen.
2nd Run - 08:23 100%
3rd Run - 04:47 Hard Mode

11:56 and 99% on first run through (I was too lazy to backtrack to get the last item before
grabbing Adam's helmet.
) Second run is in the works then it's hard mode! >=D

So is this game any good? Is it worth the 60$ and digging through boxes, finding my Wii, and hooking it up to my tv?
My tv which is.. broken.
nvm.

I like Other M better then MF & MZM. It's not as great as Super Metroid. And wether or not is the game worth the money is up to the person buying it. It was worth the money for me and I most definitely will be playing it again. I give Other M 9 out of 10. And if you like a challenge in Metroid the Hard Mode on Other M is worth it and it's also good for speed runs.

DMantra: I'd say it depends on the sort of game you like.  This game is very hand-holdy, and is very linear.  It's essentially Fusion if 3D.  Go here, do this, go here, do this, now go here.  Freedom is minimal.  I actually quite enjoyed it, but wouldn't really consider it a Metroid game, as they're rooted in exploration.  I also thought it was very short.  If you don't really spend any time backtracking for the few expansions available through new power-ups, you can easily finish it in about 5-6 hours by just doing what you're told.

It's debatable in my opinion. Gameplay is pretty smooth but punishing (read: lose anywhere from half to a full energy tank) if you don't learn to evade every chance you get (I've even been punished for evading when I was supposed to; lame).

Story is a big departure from the norm (something many didn't seem to like). You hear Samus actually talk and get to hear her thoughts and such. I thought it was nice for a change but everyone now equates her to being a whiny little girl ("My heroes being emotionally human? GTFO!" ... *facepalm* -_-; ).

The way the game was divided up was awkward. You have the main game (aka full on plot) and then you have a little extra with an "Optional Boss" (it isn't optional if it's right in your god damn path you idiots. -_-; ). In all technicality, you have to "beat the game" in order to get access to a few power ups which would otherwise be inaccessible. Of course you only get your collection rate when you finish the now obligatory Zero Suit escape sequence.

For a first try, Team Ninja does a pretty okay job. But in my opinion, Other M is a bad game (in terms of Metroid games; decent otherwise). Some things were just very poorly managed and they OBVIOUSLY don't know how to make real optional bosses. Last I checked, an optional boss is NOT OBSTRUCTING A CENTRAL PATH.

That aside, they messed a bit with a central concept which was item collection. You basicly have to beat the main portion of the game and then come back and get everything else. Last I remember, you were always allowed to collect all the power ups before facing the final boss.

Also... get your instant death out of my Metroid. GET IT OUT! NOW! It has NO business being there! I don't like being bitch smacked with instant death because I didn't do a sequence perfectly. No. Sod off. Get back to Ninja Gaiden and crap with your instant death. I want my Metroid games WITHOUT instant death. Kthxbai.

If you want to play a new Metroid game, get it. If you're particular about how a Metroid game is, I'd advise renting it or borrowing it from a friend instead. It has a lot of good in it, but a few bad. And to me, the bad out weighs the good. But that's me being sorta picky.

Why not just turn this into the official Other M topic while we're at it!? :D

So my take on the game (WARNING: Could contain SLIGHT SPOILERS):
I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Before I continue, I'd like to say this: the Prime series hooked me onto Metroid, therefore my roots in Metroid are more fond of the 3D elements (that's not to say I don't respect the 2D ones as well). Anyways, the gameplay itself feels like a 2.5D game. The way movement is makes it seem like a 2D game with a little extra z-axis movement in most places. However, what really struck me is it's similarity to Fusion. Space colony. Sectors. However, you do see a lot of older enemies.

The item authorization system, where Adam authorizes your equipment rather than you finding it, isn't that bad and makes sense until he allows you use of Varia... yes, you're being denied protection... after a small and easy hell run. The story (and the game itself) is a movie. In fact, once you unlock the theater, it starts to come into view that the game was designed around the cutscenes. The dodging mechanic is nice but very easy to do as simply running at an enemy and changing direction just as they attack will activate it. The counter to this is that some foes pack a punch. The finishing moves are cool and can be helpful at times when you just want to get a fight over with (for small enemies of course).

I'll also say that missiles tanks giving 1 missile is gay on top of energy parts which act like pieces of heart from zelda which turn out to be an interesting, yet still gay addition and that the replenish missiles (and health when low) with concentration feature is ok at best. However, some of the bosses will make you say, "wow." Not cause they're awesome, but just cause they have appeared elsewhere before and how well they've all been worked into the same game. The last boss and third to last boss especially blew my mind. Overall though, not a bad game. Everything works out great in the end. If you liked the good ol' 2D Metroid, I'd suggest a rent/borrow. If you loved the Prime series, I'd say buy.

I agree with most points. I been playing Metroid for the last 17 years. Metroid for the NES was one of the first games I played and beat. Then I took up Metroid 2 which was not as good as the first but improved in certain areas. Then 16 years ago when Super Metroid came out and turned me into a hardcore fan for life. I have beaten SM over 200 times over the last 16 years and beat over 15 SM hacks in the last year. Other M can be viewed many ways but for a huge fan like me it did not disappoint. It can be improved in some aspects but over all is a great game. It took what made the gameplay good in all the past games from Metroid to MF and the Primes. It was meant to be viewed on the gameplay aspect witch was great in my opinion. I can't wait to see the next game and hopefully Nintendo will improve in the other areas.

Fun fact about Other M: Inf. bomb jumping exists. However, when you enter morph, the screen 'locks' so to say and you can't ibj off screen. Gay. <_<

Wow, some very informative posts here.
Sounds like a metroid game I would NOT enjoy.
I'd love to see the 'move' cutscenes though.
I'll wait for all of them on youtube.

Eppy37

They are all on Youtube, I just don't remember where. 2 hours worth of it though.

^-- Yea, 2hrs is literal. IIRC, MAST3RLINKX(?) has all the cut scenes up. Watch as you please.

My cousin got Other M, which means I do have the option of playing it now. However, I constantly seem to be holding myself back. Even going so far as to finding excuses to not play it. Such as becoming addicted to Endless Ocean and Minecraft.

But I played the Demo at Comic-Con so I know how it plays, which gives me a general idea for gameplay, music, and video quality. I'm sure to an extent I'll enjoy those aspects. What I'm damned certain I probably won't enjoy is the storyline and I am refusing to go into it further than that. Everyone I've talked to who HAS played it seems to say the same thing. To wit: "It's okay if you view it as some third party game unrelated to the series." And some people go so far as to say they felt someone was trying to Japanimize the game, as I seem to recall it was never as popular there as it was here.

That makes me disappoint just from the sound of it. I also was upset that Jennifer Hale wasn't brought back as Samus' voice, and that the Samus we DID get was far more emotional than one would expect from a Bounty Hunter. I also do not like the way it seems Sakamoto was telling his own story and to hell with the canon.

..oh frak, I guess I did start to ramble, but I'm cutting myself off here. I think I'm just basically repeating myself anyways. If anyone does give a damn about my thoughts, go check out Part 8 of my Ice Metal LP, as I sorta started ranting on my thoughts without thinking about it.

On the other hand, it can't be as bad as Hunters.

EDIT: When I DO get around to playing the game (hopefully when I finish Endless Ocean Blue World, which should be fairly soon), I'll probably have a lot more to say. Although as a fan of Fusion, I gotta say I'm expecting to be really let down insofar as Adam's portrayal is concerned. He definitely didn't feel like the Adam from Fusion; I don't recall Fusion's Adam being such a hardass. Rather, he felt fairly detached, much like Samus had always felt. Unlike their Other M counterparts.

But as said, I do not know for certain. I'm hoping that if I lower my expectations enough I'll be able to gleam enjoyment.
