first off. I am new here. so Hello.

You might be interested in my project. Have you ever seen a metroid custom figure that is super awesome? I wanted every one of those. but for how much they sell its crazy. I am not saying that's a bad thing, its part of the reason I myself have started hard work at a Metroid custom my self.

here is my progress so far. http://daniel90-dansblog.blogspot.com/

I will keep it updated as I move along.

The material I am using is Castaline. you may be remembering that awesome metroid prime samus figure.

he modeled it using castaline. and So am I. this project still has some time before it starts looking Really good. It is on its way.

:whoa:

That is pretty damn awesome. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Also, I don't know if it's just a crappy video camera, but it's hard to tell if her head is too small or not from the footage on your blogspot. The photos give a better impression, but I'm still a bit dubious...

custommaker

naw the pictures are old. I did make the head smaller. a bit smaller though. those heads were actually too big. the head should be no taller than her ball shoulders. from all the other M videos I have seen. I will have more higher res pictures as i progress through.

X-tradyte

That does look quite amazing. A bit of work though but your getting it done. I thought the day of Metroid toys wouldn't dawn, and it just did.
Good job.

custommaker

yeah Its been a year since I had this idea. and about 4 months of messing with this material. I would really like to get this done before august 31st.

MetroidMst

This is the best thing I've seen today.

Are you stopping after you make this figure?

custommaker

I was thinking a link figure after this is all done.

My vote for Link would be standing backwards looking over his shoulder w/ wolf link in front.

@ Samus models, very nice. O.O

yeah that would be cool. If I made a link figure it would either be twilite princess link or oot link. And I would also have to make a trophy stand for them.

as for my metroid figure. I have worked on it some more and it is looking a whole lot better. I added detail and simulated ball joints that connect the legs to the body. I don't have my camera with me at the moment. But I plan on going to the next stage soon. (buying resin and casting material.) and paint. This is actually my first sculpting project ever. Ive spent a year messing with the material and not knowing what to do. I really only started when I made the head. And I went through 3 heads to try and get it perfect. but only about 2 or 3 weeks ago I finally made a chest piece which sparked the progress of the rest of the body. I am quite pleased with how this is turning out, since I have almost added detail to every piece. legs are not detailed. right now its looking like a rough design that will get smoother and cleaner as I go through piece by piece again.

When I make my samus figure, I plan on making a trophy stand like the ones in super smash bros brawl or melee. and if I made a link I would totally do the same thing.

the figure stands tall at about. .6 inches. its a little taller than my chris redfield action figure.

custommaker

I added new pictures. I added some detail to both shoulders.

I Like pictures. Because It helps me better see the imperfections. It will look a whole lot better when it is done

Don't be ashamed to double-post if you're adding content. Adding content is a good thing.

On that subject, this is looking pretty nice. Is it just me, or is Samus' squished in the midsection... :O_o:

squishy_ichigo

Yes, I think that her chestplate is too narrow as well. The helmet seem alittle too large as well.

Other than these small proportion problems it looks great! :awesome:

custommaker

well the camera may be looking weird. i should take more pictures. no. everything is perportioned good. the head is a good size. Its funny I had a dude tell me my the helmet was too small. I went through 2 different helmets. one first the visor was too narro. the second one looks like a halo odst helmet. this one is perfect. Head size was a big problem. Samus's head should not be that much bigger than her shoulder ball things. The chest piece maybe a little too narrow. http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14354733/metroid-other-m/images/metroid-other-m-20100615043734648.html

that is a picture I have been using as a reference. I had to make it wider. if you are looking at an older picture. that might make be what you are looking at. look at my newest stuff.

Also I am not used to double postage.

Double posting is fine, as long as it adds content.  Just spamming is still against the rules.  Regarding the proportion, the thin body does look very odd when you consider that there's supposed to be somebody inside it.  She'd have to be a size -4 to fit in that thing, which is basically just a spine. :heheh:  I seem to recall you saying it was based on Other M's Samus, which is scrawny anyway, but it does look strange.

custommaker

I know exactly what you are talking about. and will take a pictures on how I will fix it. But for now Ill try and explain. when I first was making the piece that makes her look skinny. I realized that it was Too bulky at first.  samus has a slender female like curve on that part of the body. So I had to make it so its skinny but not Too skinny. This actually works out since I plan to make this an articulated figure. since her chest area is larger than her lower body ,it is easy to make a certain joint of articulation were that part and the upper body connects. So I made them 2 separate pieces. it may look too slender now, because it is one piece being balance on another piece, and because of that it is a little lopsided showing off too much of its slenderness, to fix that I have to make that piece taller so it slides into the chest piece. the shape of the lower body is more of a skinny egg shape so the top is wrong. All i need to do is add a little more castaline clay so it goes in evenly on all sides

Chest & Waist: could be a little thicker. Like Zhs2 said, seems a little thin.
Helmet: a little too tall. Take a tad off of the height and add that to the width.

nope. Samus's entire suit is not supposed to be Bulky. She has a slender body. the upper body Is not supposed to be giant compaired to her thighs. they are about the same width. This is how samus is Agile. Only super smash bros or the original samus from super metroid should be bulky. in samus other M they gave her a more slender look. which is the look I am going for.

as for the head. I went through 3 different heads. each one was waay too tall.  a head needs to be proportioned with the rest of the body. not seem small compaired to the rest of her body. which she does. any smaller and her head will be too small.

Metroid Other M Trailer - E3 2010

my figure has been based off this figure. and as I pause through and take the visual measurements I find nothing to be wrong when it comes to size

All i really have to do is finish detailing the head. and smooth out all the bumps and nicks. then I cast and paint..and perfect the chest piece. yeah it needs to be a little wider. other than that the heads fine. I think it looks to big compaired to the chest piece. but when I fix that the head should look better

custommaker

I made the chest piece a little bigger. made some minor changes to the head. I may have to make it a tad smaller.

http://daniel90-dansblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/picture-update.html

custommaker

did more work on the chest piece. it came together more I made it a little wider. and added some of the line details.

custommaker

alright. this figure is looking a WHOLE lot better. But I have a problem. I lack funds. It will cost me at least 200 dollars to finish this project. I should come out with like..4 figures in the end. I do plan on selling 3 of the 4 I make.
