It's been 20 long years... worth the wait.

Steel Sparkle

Apologies for the bump but has anyone else Played the game yet? So far i have played and beaten in twice and hot damn has it been an absolute blast to play. Like it was seriously worth the wait.
I don't wanna spoil anything but i would love to hear everybody else's experience so far. What do you guys think?

BIG SPOILERS AHEAD! They are hidden.

I play metroid for the controls, the combat, the puzzles, the exploration, the story, the graphics, the music, the replayability.
The controls are frankly not good. Morph ball is bound to the same button as sliding so I'm constantly sliding on accident when I mean to morph. You are also limited to 3 direction aim on spider walls unless you hold L, Which to be fair was only a problem in the Kraid fight. Shinesparking is pretty hard to do on a stick as well. They felt just sprawled all over the controller and not in a very good way tbh.

The combat is good. The action shots are great and the game is incredibly difficult. The variety of enemies and bosses in this game is fantastic. Parry/Melee counter is also significantly improved here. The EMMI are a force to be reckoned with but certainly fun and tense.

The puzzles are fucking great. They tend to be difficult and sometimes go into romhack levels of difficulty. But it feels all the more satisfying to finish them.

The exploration is not good. It's about as linear as Samus Returns but with the added pain of constantly getting gates and doors locked behind you. Backtracking is only really possible once you have every ability and even then it's a convoluted mess of going around things to get where you want because there's gates in the way. In a particular example, I had the chance to use an elevator, but I decided to use a tram instead. When I got back I was unable to access the elevator until multiple hours later with the final major items in the game. Guess what??? It didn't even go anywhere important! With that being said I really enjoyed the map screen. Being able to use pins, and highlight objects on the map is a huge lifesaver. Each room is super detailed.

The story is AMAZING! I don't like being forced to talk to Adam, but you can zoom through his dialogue. The big reveals are super cool and interesting. I'm going to have to sit down and think for a while.

The graphics are give and take. It's high quality assets and looks fantastic for a switch game, but there's too much metal even outside the spoopy zones.

Music is completely unmemorable so far. Pretty disappointed in this department. It's served as ambience at best, something to set a mood and that's it.

Replayability? ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY! There's sequence breaks, boss skips and quick kills, ability skips, and more as people keep playing and discover!

TL;DR It's honestly pretty hit and miss for me. The game runs fantastically, the combat and movement is mostly great but the controls are bad. I really didn't like that bosses are less a test of your skills and effective use of abilities, and more just dying a bunch to learn the boss' patterns and play by their rules. The exploration while having twists and turns is ultimately pretty simple with one direction to go and the path behind you constantly getting blocked off. Music and visual design is mostly pretty disappointing but they were good about using the backgrounds for subtext and hints. The story is not what I was expecting from a Metroid 5 at all. It's got at least two holes in the plot that I'm really confused about, but I otherwise like it a lot. I've also heard the game is pretty sequence breakable & even has lots of quick kills.

All in all pretty enjoyable, has a fair amount of replayability. But it's also disappointing in at least a couple ways.
Speed booster in this game is FUCKING AMAZING.
It's pretty good. There's some dumb design choices here and there like
a couple bosses requiring a counter be killed
, but I still enjoyed it. There is already a good amount of sequence breaks and skips, which is neat as well. Music is forgetable. Story was weird. Movement was super smooth. Controls were annoying at times. Enemy and boss variety was good, and the enemies weren't nearly as built around the melee counter as in SR. Would recommend.

Yea i have to agree about the music, even though i loved everything about this game i think the music was alright at best. some music was good but for the most part nothing was all that great. It was okay.
Its nice to see i wasn't the only one who thought the music was the weakest point in this game.
