Not able to enter Abandoned Ship? Please Help!!!

I need help with the long jump in the cavern that Samus must jump (base ground to first out-of-water platform). I have the High Jump Boots, but they do not carry me to that first out-of-water platform. Samus seems to float higher in the air rather than actually span longer distance. What am I doing wrong?

I am using an XBox One controller on SNES9x.

Also I cannot roll over the pit blocks in the tight space heading West towards the elevator shaft to Maridia.

Must be the Gravity Suit. But again I cannot figure out the technique to roll over those pit blocks.
