Converting a regular room into an elevator room

I'm having some difficulty converting a regular room into an elevator room. I've read and studies the manual regarding elevators, but I still don't fully understand how elevators are set up. I'm attempting to mimic this concept:

I know the in-between room in the video uses the maridia tube setup asm, so that shouldn't be an issue.
