Samus has been brainwashed by Ridley.  Her past adventure on Zebes was all in her head or was it.. Behold the ultimate challenge!  This is Super Metroid Impossible Redesigned!

Requirements: Save states.  This game is designed for Super Metroid experts who know how to perform all the SM moves.

I was unable to get through the second room in crateria as the camera positioning broke. You may want to fix that.

I mean, could also be intentional but I don't think so.

{Edit} I reloaded it, and the camera is now working (semi) okay. Not sure what happened.  Looks promising.

pathomSM

It was actually intentional in this spot and tested.  You need to fall hugging the left side of the wall.  If the camera doesn't pan just keep jumping up from the platform below until it pans.  This is the only spot this happens.  Can't call it Impossible without at least 1 broken camera lol.

Blazingfury64

Ah ok, I just went to the gate that now replaces the bomb wall and the camera started working again. Also, you may want to post a screenshot of the game.

pathomSM

I'm glad you made it through.  Let me know if you get stuck again, there are some very difficult feats ahead.  Also, screenshots will be here today.

pathomSM

Here is a small glimpse into the game.  Be warned, this game is not for the feint of heart.  It is brutal and unforgiving.  Is it impossible?  That is for you to determine..

You need to go to http://metroidconstruction.com/submit_hack.php
To get your hack listed, you best to put your images on imgur and then paste in the links

You also then need to contact them on discord to get it listed, there be someone that an approver

Jiffy

The hack has already been uploaded. I am waiting for panthomSM to make the following adjustments to make it legitimate:

-Screenshots of the game must be present.
-A valid link to the IPS patch must be present. (You have linked the patch URL to the form thread. It should be to the attachment in your post.)

If you are going to upload fixes soon, please do so before it is approved.

I also removed your 5/5 review on your own hack. That's just lame.

pathomSM

I added screenshots using imgur and added the IPS patch link.  Do I need to fix anything else or am I good? Sorry about the review :P

The patch link works, however you need to use a direct link to the image itself. Right click on your image and click "Copy Image Address".

I really appreciate everyone's help!  First time doing this :)

Where do I go after getting Hi-Jump, Ice Beam, and Wave Beam? I keep getting blocked by crumble blocks, unopenable gates, or lack of Space Jump for the Lower Norfair statue.

pathomSM

Do you have Speed Booster?  You need to perform a gate glitch in the room with all the super fast crabs so you have room to run.  Then, to progress further into Maridia you need Speed Booster and in the same room where you get that Missile trapped around a wall in vanilla.  You have to perform a vertical shinespark in the long vertical room.  This path may eventually lead to a key item to progress further in Norfair.  If you are unusure about my instructions or have any additional questions let me know.  If you can't find Speed Booster, I can give you a hint or the exact location.

andlabs

I have Speed Booster, but I don't have any suits, so I'm guessing I accidentally sequence broke? This assumes that the room with super fast crabs is the long one to the right of the room you're talking about with the missile in the wall.

Current inventory: 9 Energy Tanks, 4 Reserve Tanks, 90 Missiles, 65 Super Missiles, 45 Power Bombs, Grappling Beam, Charge Beam, Ice Beam, Wave Beam, Spazer, Morphing Ball, Bomb, Spring Ball, Hi-Jump Boots, Speed Booster
Defeated Bomb Torizo, Spore Spawn, Kraid, Crocomire, and Phantoon.

pathomSM

You are right on track actually.  You haven't missed any suit upgrades.  You must traverse Maridia now without the Gravity Suit.  Yes, that is the room I am talking about.  There are some tricky sections coming up in Maridia so let me know if you get stuck :)

And no you did not sequence break to get Speed Booster without Varia Suit, you did it correctly :)

pathomSM

Also, make back-up saves in case you get stuck.  You will need a special item acquired in Maridia to escape.

andlabs

Oh I somehow did not notice that room no longer has water. Thanks!

I guess I need to make it easier for you casuals .  It's like most people don't enjoy challenge and just want an easy time.  As soon as some hit a brick wall, you start to complain and cry saying it's too hard!  This hack is meant to be hard!  This hack is 100% beatable but it will not hold you hand!  This hack will try and confuse you and end you at every twist and turn.  Only the very best players will beat this.  The Elite.  The Super Metroid Gods.  Get on my level.

DO NOT PLAY THIS HACK IF YOU ARE BAD!  It's like trying to run before you crawl.  I have beaten it twice, it was very hard but I managed.  Stop messaging me that this hack is too hard!  It's meant to be a challenge!

Why are you making the hack easier if it's meant to be beaten by "only the very best players?" What elite player would take the time out of their day to beat a spike bath of a halfhack?
This kind of hack has been done a thousand times before. What's special about it this time? More bullshit than usual? More spikes?
Spikes =/= a good challenge.
Also, don't get mad over a couple negative reviews on metconst. I'm sure you have much better things to do.

Full damage spikes and Power-suit Samus are never a good combination. I gave the hack a try so I could see for myself what the others were talking about.

Positives:
Interesting Story
Some interesting palette changes

Other Comments:

Ceres was very inconsistent. Some blocks were solid, while others were not, but I guess that's part of the "challenge" or something. I also don't get why there was a staircase around a dead body. The tiling of that looks really bad and makes no sense.

Don't use red Crateria. Just don't.

Oh boy! 60 damage spikes in the first room where the only place to recover is in your ship! They also don't animate which looks weird. Also, there are Permastucks in the landing site. Permastucks are never good and shouldn't be in any hack, (especially when it's one that forces you to reset) let alone the first room.

The tiling in every room I went through (which wasn't very many) was very sloppy and showed almost no polish. Before you start building rooms in an area, make sure you understand how all of the tiles go together.

Technically a spoiler I guess:
Fumbling around the first two rooms I eventually found my way into the save room with the E-tank in it. I figured it wasn't real, but I hoped it was anyway, so I jumped on it. The moment that the E-tank killed me, I understood what it would be like playing the hack.
I've played hacks like this before, and I have never beaten a single one of them for one reason: they aren't fun. Being hard for the sake of being hard is almost never the way to go when making a hack. (It also reinforces the stereotype that this is all that ROM hacks are.) When players encounter a situation like this where the game is being cheap, or unnecessarily punishing, it makes want to stop playing. Heck, I've stopped playing good hacks because of those kinds of things, but I go back to them because I know that those parts will be done once I get farther in, and I know that the rest is significantly better. With something like this, I have no reason to believe that the hack won't take every cheap shot it can at me, so I don't find playing a hack like this worth it in the process.

Don't get me wrong, I like challenges. I play Megaman and Bass and have done Pre-Hooktail Pit of 100 Trials runs in Paper Mario TTYD, but the difference with those is that the challenges are learnable (like the former) and/or self-inflicted (like the latter). Are there cheap moments in both of those? Yes. Can they get frustrating? Yes. But at least they are designed to be playable, and there is a reward (either in game or psychological) for overcoming the challenge. This hack is just a drag to try and brute force your way through with basically no reason to continue. See the rest of the hack? Why bother if it's just going to be more torture? Bragging rights? Congrats! You tortured yourself for X hours to beat some bad hack. If you don't make your challenges fair, people will not want to play.

MetConst has some weird emotes, so I'll use some of them:
Hack - :csaw2: - My desire to play it
Suggestions:
If I were you, I'd scrap this and start over with a completely fresh hack. Do a mini hack, or make something for the contest to get yourself in the swing of hacking. (If you do the contest you'll get a lot of good constructive criticism from the judges and players too) If you want to make it difficult, you can, but don't make it unfair. Make it so the player feels that they messed up and it's not the hack just being stupid hard and unforgiving for the sake of being hard.

Get on my level.

Don't talk down to your players like that. It really isn't nice and makes you seem full of yourself, and you don't want to give that impression.

Don't use 60 damage spikes until the player has at least 1 E-tank, and generally try to avoid having the spikes stick out of the ground and walls. That makes them significantly more annoying to try to get around.
More like this.                                     Less like this.
If you need help in understanding how a tileset is supposed to look, look at vanilla rooms and see how the developers used the tiles.

Don't make the player able to take damage before enemies show up because then they can only refill at the ship and, especially if the things kill you in two hits, that's really annoying.

Remove all possible Permastucks! Take into account any amount of items a player could possibly have in any given area.

Don't use the item PLM tiles if they aren't actual items.

(From what I've seen in the thread) Forcing large swaths of suitless-underwater Maridia is generally not a good idea, especially with the high damage dealing crabs allegedly moving really fast.

pathomSM

Well said criticism.

The only thing is that this is nearly "Impossible".  It's not a typical "hard but manageable" hack.  It's at a level 1 step higher and I portray that in many different ways whether (spikes, underwater sections suitless, heat sections suitless, lava/acid rising events, tough or faster enemies, tough or challenging bosses, fake items, invisible enemies or bosses, requiring advanced skills like machball, x-ray climb, short-charging, wall clipping, infinite bomb jumps, diagonal shinesparks, crystal flash, etc.

If you know you never finish "hacks like this" that are TOO hard for you, then don't download it.  For crying out loud, I put Impossible in the title, what did you expect?  I even put save states are required in the description.  That typically means that you have to brute force your way.  This is supposed to be a new version of the old SMI but I did not want the same layout and item locations and I wanted it even harder since this game has been out for longer since when it was released.

As for the way it looks like you said with the palettes, it was my first hack so I was new to all this.  I agree that it doesn't look the best.  But that wasn't the point of the hack to look amazing, the point of the hack was to offer "the ultimate challenging experience requiring all of the above things I mentioned".

Anyways, after releasing a hack of this difficulty I realized that most people don't enjoy extreme challenge so I am making an exploration based hack with moderate difficulty.  The realm of "Impossible" is dead to me and for anyone wanting to make a hack at this level of difficulty, don't because people won't like it.

Defensiveness is such a cute quality in a new hacker.   :eyeroll:

Metaquarius

My experience with Impossible Redesigned so far.

Downloaded the hack.
Applied patch to unheadered ROM.
Opened 791F8 in SMILE to make sure it has patched correctly.
Saw Red Crateria and spikes.
Closed SMILE.
Removed both patch and patched ROM from my computer.

Positives:
Reminded me of Homenag.  :^_^:
Negatives:
Too short.

Syphon

I did not want to reply but I find it incredibly childish how the hack author can't take criticism from MetroidNerd#9001 and Metaquarius and even resorts to give 1-Orb ratings to SM Recovery, Z-Factor and Y-Faster because of it. Very disappointing.

pathomSM

If you just look at it without trying to play it, you can't say much.

As for the length, it is not short if you play it.  I bet you would spend countless hours trying to beat it if you even had the skill to.

As for the look, it was not my intention to make it look visually appealing.  The point of this hack is to offer extreme challenge.  Please guys.  Point of Hack=Challenge
If anyone finds this hack too easy, then I guess you are too good idk.
