Multiple people have been doing similar things. In both cases though, it's a ton of work. A lot of things must be totally reworked.
There's very little chance that there will be a patch of something like that.

It really shouldn't be too terribly difficult providing you have the coding skill, but yes, it's a ton of work.
Vertical collision detection and reactions to slopes would need to be completely recoded, with code added to translate vertical values to horizontal values.  I'm already going to have to do some fancy stuffs along those lines (reworking vertical collisions) to get spiderball stuffs working properly, because the vanilla routines just don't have the functionality.
I've talked to Black Falcon a bit about some of it for applications to Person701's SMP thingy, so it may have a possible future appearance.  But to my knowledge it's still very far from anything workable.

Black Falcon

I'm about to try rewriting the physics, but I'm not quite sure how to pull it off correctly, yet.
Getting the current slope collision detection to properly handle momentums and stuff is simply not doable the way it is right now.
What's possible is making morphball rolling down slopes, as this would just involve some more checks for Samus touching them, but you can't use this if you wanna have proper physics.
I disassembled a small chunk of the engine and it's already pretty complex, so this is gonna take a while.

BowToNightmare5

Hello, my name is BowToNightmare5, and I'm new to the site. I've had this idea for a project that I've been keeping for some time that I finally have the courage to release to the public

It's called Metroid: Extinction.

Unfortunately, I have no screenshots, nor do I have any videos yet, so I apologize if this does not seem or feel like the real deal. But as soon as I have something I will post it on this topic. The events take place after Metroid Fusion, just after Samus evacuates the B.S.L Station. The Galactic Federation has been working tirelessly to reverse engineer Samus' Power Suit. In the end, they come up with an almost exact replica to the suit. As Samus picks up her new armor at the GF base on Norion, a Pirate invasion engulfs the base that threatens to destroy the base. The Pirates start the self-destruct mechanism, and Samus has to find her new ship and get out of there.

But as she reached her ship, she is blocked by an unsuspected foe, an Omega Metroid, though it does not seem organic; an android. It scratches Samus, her blood on its claws, and escapes. Samus evacuates the station as it explodes on Norion. Samus travels to the GFHQ on Earth, and is ordered by GF Commander Danvers to travel to the recently discovered Pirate base on UCB1, just by the area where SR-388 and the B.S.L Station were destroyed. There, she learned that her blood, taken from her by the android Omega Metroid, was being used by an unknown Pirate saboteur to create new Metroids, as her blood had still been protected by the Metroid vaccine, though now, it has worn off. Samus must track down the Pirates through the jungles and caverns of UCB1, while preserving her life.

Also, if you've played Zero Mission, remember the Ridley Robot? The unknown saboteur somehow recovered the blueprints for it with the walking and flying units. He rebuilt the Ridley Robot and renamed it Mecha Ridley.

So, do yo like how it sounds? It might be a project or a fanfic, who knows? Please post your comments on what you think below. Thank you!

Wasn't it already called Mecha Ridley in Zero Misson? Or did everyone just call it that

Quietus

It's not an official name, no.

How far along is this project?  Do you have any progress so far, or is this just idea waggling?

Cloud20

Interesting idea and storyline.

Also I'm wondering the same thing :)

Zero Missons boss was called "Meta Ridley" like the one in Prime aswell

personitis

You sure it wasn't called Mecha-Ridley? :bounce:
Since there's no content to comment on, I wish you best of luck with your project.

Quietus

Yep, pretty certain. :^_^:

From that very article:
QuoteThis article has an Unofficial Name.

No official media or canon has released or translated a title. This article's name is fan-made, well-improvised, or roughly translated.

I'm about getting as far as the layout and designs on paper. I can take pictures on my iPhone and upload them to the topic, if I can.

Zhs2

Lol. Shouldn't have created a topic then, as this sort of thing goes into... this thread!

okey, "Mecha Ridley" it was, the reborn ridley in the prime series is "Meta Ridley" though

Fusion isn't one of my favorites, just remembered some metalic Ridley and assumed, but yeah thats right there was some half completed robot ridley there, close but different :P

Hack idea
-Multiplayer is probably a bit to big scope for a hack (if even possible), but what about a Evil Samus boss fight? The fusion battle kinda sucked, I want a SA-X/Dark Samus fight in the superior super metroid engine xD

In the Japanese Zero Mission, the translated name is リドリーろぼと which means "Ridorī Robotō"...I think. So its most likely name is Ridley Robot. (I think I had bad grammar there...)

Quietus

Which is likely why fans have chose Mecha Ridley, since it rolls off the tongue a lot more easily that Ridley Robot or Robot Ridley.

Quietus

What about having a beam that can be upgraded?  What I mean is that you start out with a beam (probably Spazer for the best appearance), which passes through enemies and walls, and instead of picking up different beams, the pickups just increase the beam's damage.  Players would be rewarded for finding hidden upgrades, and it could also work out well for speedruns, since you'd want the damage / time trade-off.

I already have all types of upgrades, including beam upgrades. I should upload them...?

Quietus

That would depend on what sort of upgrades you mean.  If you gave us some more information, we could help you in deciding, but there's also no real reason to not just upload them anyway. :^_^:

Alright. Here are the all the items on the complete Samus Screen:

Beams:
Charge Beam
Triple Beam
Ice Beam
Wave Beam
Plasma Beam
Hyper Beam (see below)

Missiles:
Normal Missile
Super Missile
Ultra Missile

Suits:
Varia Suit
Gravity Suit

Bombs:
Normal Bomb
Power Bomb

Boots:
Hi-Jump Boots
Speed Booster
Space Jump

Misc.:
Morph Ball
Spider Ball
Hook Launcher
X-Ray Visor
Screw Attack

The Hyper Beam above is supposed to be like this: After collecting the Hyper Beam, a pink bar will appear on the HUD. After turning off all other Beam upgrades to use the Hyper Beam, press and hold the shoot button. The Hyper Beam shoots a continuous beam of energy. If you use the Hyper Beam long enough, the Hyper Bar will lose all of its Hyper energy and you will have to turn other Beam upgrades on. Collect more Hyper energy to use the Hyper Beam more often. It's not a mandatory item, and its really hard to find.

The Hook Launcher has the mechanics of both the Grappling Beam and the Grapple Lasso. Shoot the Hook Launcher at a hook to cling on. You will swing on the hook and jump to get off. In some occasions, there will be a hook the metal cover of a hatch. You launch the Hook Launcher at the hook and press the button of the opposite direction you are facing. Samus will look like she is pulling a rope, and the metal hatch cover will break apart and to will gain access to the hatch.

The X-Ray Visor works much like it does in Super Metroid, though now you can move while examining hidden passageways.

The Spider Ball works just as it does in Metroid II.

The Ultra Missile is four times as powerful as Missiles.

So are they good, or no?

Digital_Mantra

I think you know damn well those are good!

Not to crush your dreams... but:

1. Have fun putting in a completely new Samus pose and animation.
2. Have fun allowing movement with X ray enabled. The game does not update screen VRam while it is on (or anything else, for that matter, but the VRam is the problem)
3. Have fun making a spider ball, but that's already getting made by a few people afaik, so maybe you'll get lucky with this one.
