That idea made me think: why not give Samus a portal gun? I've seen a legit hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 where you could use portals. It was somewhat glitchy, but overall very impressive. It would make for some cool puzzle-based Super Metroid hacks.

I really wanna see somebody make a working Translocator in SM.
I really wanted to see lots of things in super. So I learned asm and started making them, maybe you should do the same instead of just continuing to state how much you want it.

As for the portal gun, there's a bit of a problem with it. It couldn't be coded like a regular beam/missile, because beams/missiles don't stay off screen indefinitely. For a portal gun to work properly and make for some great puzzles, you would need to be able to shoot it somewhere, go somewhere else, and warp over to it. Now, this is still certainly possible, but it'd be a whole other beast to make since there's no projectile system set up to handle something like it.
I agree though, it'd be pretty rad, and reminded me of the Dorkly bits videos of link/megaman with a portal gun.

Zero One

I do recall somebody (maybe MST/DSO) having teleporter blocks. They had a very nice room that looped if you took the wrong path, where the loop was just sending Samus back to an identical screen.

Wasn't that already achieved in Redesign? The "Lost Caverns", I believe it was called. :^_^:

Thilat make the think, someone should incorparate an "Endless Staircase" sort of thing, where if you haven't beat all the bosses yet, you can walk infinitely and not reach Tourian. I always thought the Endless Staircase in Mario 64 was kinda cool.

Quote58

These are actually all already made lol.
The endless staircase can be seen in Fear with that endless pit that you need an item to be able to go anywhere in, otherwise you drop indefinitely.
The teleport blocks have been made by many people (including myself), and I think released at some point. It's really simple code to make them work.
As for the lost woods thing, redesign does basically that. It uses 1 room with a bunch of almost identical screens in it. Each of the screens has a plm in front of 3 of the 4 exits. If you touch one of the 3, you'll be warped back to the first section. If you don't, you'll keep moving through the screens like normal.

Can't really spoiler when the video has been up for over 5 years. >_>

Once again, this intrigues me but pains me at the same time :O_o:

I've got some Super Metroid upgrade ideas that may be useful.
Meteor boots: To be used by pressing Shoot+Down, they can be lethal if you use them from certain heights. They could break a part of the floor and they always kill enemies on the floor. Also, if you run with the speed booster and quickly jump, you can press Shoot+[The direction you're going] to do a horizontal jump that can destroy a whole wall. But good things take other good things away, and these boots are powered by power bombs. So watch your ammo, it's 2 power bombs for each time you use them.
Electricity beam: So, this is a really mainstream idea, but thought I'd share it. This beam will produce an electric shock that can be conducted through metallic surfaces and water areas, and can shock enemies for a certain timespan. Although, there is a flaw to it. The beam is pretty dangerous when touching your suit. Stay away from the shock or it may short-circuit it and disable some of your weapons. This flaw, though, could be solved with an additional suit.
(High pressure)Water beam: OK, I know this upgrade might sound pretty stupid, but I wanted to share it. Its function depends on the environment you're in:
-Crateria: Hidden cracks on the walls and floor can be eroded by this beam, leading to secret rooms.
-Brinstar: Will make any surface wet so electricity beam can be conducted through it.
-Norfair: Will evaporate on regular surfaces, but can cool lava and create rock platforms.
-Maridia: Won't do shit
Energy investor: Can transform part of the suit's energy into weapon ammo(This process cannot be reversed). Five missiles will take half a tank, and five power bombs will take an energy tank and a half.

I know probably all of my ideas are awful, anyways, I just started with these. I may edit this post or post more ideas in the future.

Actually, that last one might be interesting for Reserve Tanks, if used when high on energy, giving resources in the priority opposite of the crystal flash taking away.

The Monster of Surrealton

Thinking big, a linear Super Metroid hack structured as an episodic series.

You start with basic gear: an E-Tank, missiles, and Morph Ball.

The player has to complete several objectives in a single, massive area before heading to the next, and there's no backtracking, save for the landing site during the escape.

The "episodes" would all be titled, with the titles on screen like Redesign, and there would be sort-of in-game dialogue like Darkholme.

I imagine Project Base being the base for the hack.

Quietus

Assuming that items would carry over, it could be pretty cool, though you'd have to ensure that all items are unavoidable, so that all players end each part with the same gear to start the next mission.

Thanks to things and stuff, I have come up with the greatest Ridley fight.

The bottom of the room is a door, so you can fall out and restart the fight. "But Mst, Airy did that already!" This is true! However, Airy lacked one thing, a platform that was entirely crumble blocks! Thus, if you can't keep crumble jumping while fighting Ridley, you fall and have to restart the fight!

This is probably the best idea I have ever had. You're welcome MetConst.
The bottom of Ridley's room will be a pit leading to a black void room where Samus dies instantly.
Retroo

That is not a bad idea if you have a fixed spinjump (one you dont have to time) and being able to make Samus spin whenever in air.

Now this is truly glorious.

Mhx Air

I had an idea once, but I never really thought about it until I was working on Crateria.
I remapped it to look almost entirely different, but in a good way. That's when I thought of it.

Ready?
Animated Grass

If you make a patch with new grass sprites, and enter some code so that grass loads different sprites, it will be animated, like spikes and water, so it blows in the wind. It's just a completely aesthetic idea, but with the other animations, it makes me wonder why grass wasn't given an animation.
Quietus

I'm surprised that more animated tiles haven't appeared in general, but I'd love to see them. Moving machinery, greenery, waterfalls, etc. :^_^:

All it does is clutter the screen and distract the player from what's important. Sometimes, animating everything can mislead the player, as people will naturally try to interact with anything that moves. This proves to be troublesome when the worlds in 2D Metroids are mostly static - it creates too much contrast and draws too much attention to itself. That can be advantageous when trying to make the player focus on something important (AM2R's water station fans/pumps), but animated grass is a distraction unless it's done in the landing site or in other areas where there's no pressure put on the player.
